  • Comparisons of Savarez Cristal/Corum (500CJ) and D'Addario EJ46 on my Cordoba C7 guitar.
I tested each set two days after stringing the guitar using the onboard mic on my DSLR, which is actually a pretty good mic.

Thanks for this comparison. I use both these strings. The EJ46's on my spruce top classical and the 500CJ's on my cedar top classical. I find they are the perfect balance with the different soundboards. Oh and THANK YOU for also actually playing classical pieces for this demonstration and not some overly used blues riffs that a few seem to do. lol

Both strings are excellent option for guitar, but in my opinion the Savarez strings sound more brilliant. Thanks for upload this video!

Thank you for this video. I have been looking for some comparison of those 2 types specifically and you're the first one to post anything. I wish you had included your opinion but I see it in the comments. I'm sure many viewers will also add their feed back which will be great. I havea cedarwood cordoba c7 cd as well, and I also have the c5 cd thin profile in black. I'm a 53 years old and started playing a year ago and I still suck at it, but I enjoy every second of it that my wife is probably getting jealous or she's loving it since it gets me off her back :)
Play the classical guitar folks.. It heals our souls.
Thanks again for the good video.

Thanks! Yes, I really don't have a strong opinion towards one or the other. I've always liked the Cristal Corum strings, but really enjoyed switching to the EJ46 set for a change. I like alternating between the two, and I also want to add the Hannabach 815 Silver Special strings to the mix. I tried them once and loved them, so that might be my next comparison video.

D’Addario have so much more presence and more of a full sound. I use the Composites and the Carbon Core which are amazing. I also use Hard Tension which gives it even more presence and bite.

Thanks...I didn't notice any huge differences in tension between the two sets as a whole. I've recently been playing a set of "medium" tension Hanabach 815 Silver Specials and look forward to comparing these, as well. The medium Hannabach's feel like they are a bit higher tension than the EJ46 and CJ500. They sound amazing, too, although they are also more expensive and maybe a tiny bit harder to play.

Thanks!...I really like both of them. I can see why Cordoba uses the Cristal Corums on their new guitars...They are loud and lively. But the EJ46's are awesome, too, and when I switch to the EJ46's it seems that I like them better, until I switch back to the Savarez. LOL. They both seem similar yet different enough to be a nice change without feeling that you're losing anything.
To my ear, the Savarez Cristal Corum might seem punchier and brighter, with the EJ46 sounding more round or slightly darker.

Savarez have more sound (higher volume) and a great diferrence in trebles... much more brilliant and powerfull. The guitar sounds with more treble and sound, the 2 aspects that are the most important for me. D'Addario have more equilibrant sound, that not remark anything. Thank you for the video

Which of those are better in tune going up to the 12th fret? I have Savarez now and the g string is not really in tune around that fret. I have cutaway guitar and I use often also 14th fret.

It's possible to compensate the saddle to correct those things. The only downside is that it's locked in to that exact set of strings, so just be sure that you really like them before you go ahead.
