  • Every year, in December, the Club World Cup is held. The winners of every continents respective Champions League play against each other to battle out who's the best team in the world. In 2014 a semi pro team from New Zealand participated and did really well against pro teams. They didn't make it to the final to play against Real Madrid. But it's still a massive result for a semi pro team to become 3rd of the world. In this video you'll see their road to the 3rd place at the Club World Cup

    That was 2014, and I can't believe that was roughly 10 years ago. Auckland City's 3rd place run is still one of the best football stories I have encountered, especially considering that winners of Oceania usually get knocked out of the opening game against the host club. ❤

    if they only held up for a little bit longer, they could've beaten san lorenzo and faced real madrid in the final... for a club from new zealand this would've been a monumental milestone. still an unreal journey. finished in pole position, third in the world!

    Why do European teams get the privileged of only starting from the Semi Final? Devalues it when some teams play 4 games, whilst others play 2 (if they reach the final). Also less chances to lose. When its better teams in this, which sometimes it is, you want a fair competition. It's too small a competition to care about seeding.

    • @hartingtherealone
      @hartingtherealone Před 2 měsíci +1

      Id agree, but i honestly dont know what the format could be, considering that there are 7 teams participating in this.
      I heard something about adding an 8th club to fix this, but it would just add a second european club, which woukd make it still quite unfair for everyone else, considering how large the gap between Europe and everyone else is in club football.

      The alternative is to take turns and not have Europe participate as a seeded team in such a small competition. These teams, while smaller. They have achieved a great deal too. Minus South America, it is samller teams. Though upsets happen. Teams don't get the chances to beat European teams if they all knock each other out first. It could cause a wave. A smaller wave. But a wave through other nations that maybe other footballing countries like Saudi, the US, Japan. Brazil, Argentina, Australia, Egypt and so on, actually might have a solid standard of football. We laugh at other nations.
      Look at the reaction when Jessi Lingaard joined a Korean top flight professional team. People actually acted in mass as if he joined a Sunday league team without knowing a jot about South Korean football. Whilst that nation may have a bad rep and may have bad football. Countries never grow if we all scoff at the rest of them and keep everything to ourselves.
      I'm an Arsenal fan but all I see is seedy comments from people that can't accept another league lives below the premiership or that the fans can't understand the reality of teams outside the top 5 leagues. I'm 29. I didn't grow up watching football when it was slightly more even. It went crazy right at the end of the 90s when I first started remembering matches. Partly why I really enjoy the Europa League. The fans are beyond brilliant and loyal. I just feel fans in other teams. Bug team. they would jump ship if a team got relegated and had a few bad years. Bolton had a fanbase around the word. It hardly has any fans outside England now. @@hartingtherealone
