They had a lot of troubles with avoiding copyrights with this one. Hence the b@man being spelled like that. They weren't able to actually use the Joker so they created Sweet Tooth to fill that role but he is effectively the joker without saying it, and I think more fun with all the candy puns. Also, I agree with the commenter who said that whoever wrote lego batman must have seen this because the paralelles are INSANE!! Glad you guys are enjoying it, production side of this show is below some of their others I think, the jokes are dated but this was my first starkid musical I saw so it makes me so nostalgic.

Seeing the first reaction of this musical is just how I felt watching it for the first time. It felt like a fever dream.
This is my 6 year old's favorite musical. The song with the "fuck you" chorus got me in trouble with her grandmas. 🤷🏼♀️

Personally, while I think the Chinese stereotype was horribly dated, I still find the joke hilarious... It's someone doing an impression of Michael Cain, playing Alfred, pretending to be Chinese with a terrible accent and disguise... And yet Batman still buys it lol... The fact that it's dated even adds to the ludicrous nature of it...
Obviously, if he were legitimately trying to portray a Chinese man, I totally get it, but that's not really the point... I've always found context is super important myself... Otherwise, so many things become offensive that there just isn't the time in the day to be offended anymore >_>;; Although it's not like you're exactly unreasonable for finding it offensive either... I've been offended by so many stupid things myself at some point or another, so it's not like I can really blame you >_

It's funny how no one ever mentioned the Irish stereotype which happens before and goes on for longer. Batman even calls him a drunken son of a b.

@@ryanisbelle6107 In modern day, people of Asian descent are still killed for the fact that they're Asian. Irish people WERE discriminated against, and still are to some degree, but not nearly to the same extent. We put out the house fire before dealing with the termites.

they couldnt get the rights to a lot of this hence the way the title is written with symbols and why we have sweet tooth instead of joker (which was a really good choice because it brought something really good and new to the table)

Hey! I just wanted to say that I'm pretty sure they didn't include Joker because all of his puns are copyrighted or something like that, that's why they had to create a new villain even though he has so much Joker energy

Because they would have to change his gimmick,
Since every character is a jokester.
Sweettooth was a great alternative because they could make a bunch of puns that are distinct, but not too obscure.
Gotta agree with you about Batman, I just can't bring myself to fully get behind a superhero who's a billionaire, especially when most of his villains are, like, not also rich people. Like, at least with Iron Man, the people he fights against are typically other rich people or super-powered aliens, so I give him some lee-way. Same for Green Arrow, the people he fights against are typically rich fucks. But my fav superheroes tend to be pretty working class. Superman, Spider-man, Captain America.

I think it was supposed to represent joker and harley. When Green Lantern and Superman were talking about villians, they mentioned that the stupidest villian theme would be candy. Would definitely be awesome if they were joker though

It's called an homage. Sweet Tooth and Candy are homages to Joker and Harley, being nearly identical to them but fitting into a fun candy gimmick. It's meant to subvert the idea of there being a Joker, the most obvious villain in such a feature, by not having him....but still having him.
In terms of Batman? I mean, if you gave the material a chance, I could say fair enough....but, just like mistaking Aquaman for....Mermaid Man? (from Spongebob? which is itself a reference to Aquaman), it's fairly obvious you've dipped your toes at best. The caveat that Batman is....a mortal guy with tech....is shared by a LOT of superheroes, both DC and Marvel. And where are we drawing the line here? Green Lantern is just a pilot from Earth. If his power ring fails, he's as vulnerable as Batman. Do you realize how many superheroes are mortals with tech? The biggest parallel to Batman in Marvel is Iron Man.....not a superhero??!! His tech is just slightly more advanced.....even still...in some continuities and side stories, Batman HAS mech suits, some for himself and some with AI. The whole idea of Batman is that, despite his mortality, he has a superhuman mind and will....and this fierce devotion to his own city. He needs the tech and resources to give him an edge, but.....even Superman is a mortal being in the right environment....since day 1, it's been the yellow sun's radiation that has affected his biology to become so powerful - on Krypton he's a mortal man, or, under red sun radiation like Krypton, he's reduced to near human levels of vulnerability. It's pointless to erect these pillars defining what makes a superhero...beyond anything other than they're above a standard everyday "hero". When you get into real Batman....his actual compassion for people, especially on a psychological level....the themes of overcoming grief and rekindling the will over and over again, no matter the eyes....the father-son relationship he has with Alfred and which he, in turn, gives others like him, like Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim and Damian....it SHOULD be one of the superheroes you BOTH find the most relation to. BeCAUSE his superheroism focuses on humanity...the struggles with corruption in police, government, institutions....and his willingness to go beyond the law, but still support those that serve it, correctly. I mean, my god....it's ridiculous....you two should be the ones telling OTHER people about this. But, it's a simple matter of not understanding what Batman is, beyond what? ....the Nolan movies? The very reason you liked LEGO Batman, is really a play on what makes him so compelling.
