Those girls have been training at a very high intensity since they were young and they were selected primarily because of their small size. It's only natural that they look even younger than an average Chinese at their age.
Don't understand why everyone thinks they are underage. Asians generally look smaller and younger than Americans and coupled with gymnastics, that makes them look even younger. They look younger with their hair up too.
Why must everyone insist on bashing amazing Olympic champions just because they are better than the Americans? (And I'm American)
oh my god. she has so much talent *.*
Actually it has changed since 2008. She did a Tkatchev to Pak in Beijing and only one pirouette before her Li Ya.
But her routine is basically the same since Worlds2009, but sometimes she includes the 1.5 pirouette into dismount, which gives her even a 7.4 D-score.
it has been at cottbus 2012, but its getting better
I'm so glad to see she's doing well again!
No, she's already gone through that growth spurt which started in 2009, but only really started to give her trouble in 2011, where she struggled all year. This year ist the first time, she seems to be back in shape :)
Amo He Kexin!! Mas 15650 não é a nota que ela costuma tirar, sou acostumada com ela tirando acima de 16,700.
I HOPE SHE WINS IN LONDON! THAT WAS EXCELLENT..
Lol if you watched the London 2012 footage you could tell that she is past her prime - getting quite labored - she herself said that in 2008/2009, she could easily pull off any routine no matter how difficult, but she couldn't perform the same level b/c of puberty.
Unfortunately she just tore her achilles. The team was announced though. It is sui lu, huang qiushuang, yao jinnan, deny linlin, and the last spot is between tan six in and he kexin
I works! I mean Chellsie Memmel did the same for the 2005-2008 quad. She kept it because she is comfortable with it and the difficulty is off the wall.
Still on that crap? They were sixteen bro, whether you like it or not, and they kicked ASS in 2008. She's around 20 now, could be the reason she's facing some slight inconsistencies, and very reasonable too.
He could really do with a shap. In fact, I'm surprised I haven't seen more of them in general so far because I'm pretty sure the coach said he was concerned about the E score deductions so shaps are needed for their transfers :S
Yes that is very true... I thought this routine was scored very fairl, if not a little overscored... If you look at everybody else's scores, especially on floor, the E scores usually go into the 7s without a fall, and I've seen one floor routine scored above 14
Highest UB score I have seen this year. Compared with US team, her routine is much more difficult and score is much higher than others. She could win a UB gold medal if she gets in the Olympic team.
yes but keep in mind that this is the chinese nationals, where everything is scored ridiculously low, and she is capable of a 7.4 routine, which would have won every major internationals championships, and with this routine, she would have won gold at the 2011 worlds. She is definitely in the hunt for uneven bar gold, as well has huang qiushuang, nabieva, komova, mustafina and tweddle
Yes that was true, but chinese officials said jiang wasnt really in the running anymore, and he kexin got back her 7.4 difficulty routine.
Cheng Fei? Is she still competing? I thought she retired after Beijing! What a legend!
i thought the last spot was between jiang yuyuan, tan and he? but there was some doubt about kexin since she didnt do well in an internal test?
shes cute !!! i miss her
i love He kexin!!
Still very good.
at least she finally looks 16 . . . 4 years later
probably. Though huang is pretty good in the qualifications, so she'll probably be in the finals, though we'll have to see how he does from there. But its gonna be so weird with the 4 best uneven bar workers, tweddle, komova, He Kexin, and mustafina, one will be left off of the podium... If they all hit. Which russian has the amanar? and who do you think has the 4 spots currently?
Es buenísima
I would definitely have loved to see Cheng Fei competing in her their Olympics! I absolutely love her! And that's a good team, but I would love to see He Kexin in as I really liked their 2008 team.
I just realized that the way she does her hair is really cute, she did the same style in the olympics too!
at least she's in London...
Ahhhh, love this girl. It's nice to see her maintain her skills despite her growth spurt. Good for her. Just wish she'd add one of those new transfers.
Their handstand pirouettes are so amazing though... In the next code they're focussing more on devaluing the handstands based on DV instead of execution, so I think we'll still be seeing them the next few years.
I like her eyes.
Their beautiful...
Best routine she's done in a long time
OK let's not talk abt politics since this video is abt gymnastics, but I am not racist. Every team has their weak points on bars generally. For example, USA: weak toepoint, form breaks, laboured swings at times; Russia: form breaks at times, bent knees during in-bar swings; Romania: form breaks, weak toepoint, insufficient swinging momentum; China: dead hangs, laboured kip cast handstands. I am not sure it is due to the coaching style or what, but these problems do exist.
Oh god. When will people realize that almost all Asians look younger than their actual age, at least from a western perspective. It's BIOLOGICAL.
And He Kexin, like many gymnasts, has to deal with growth spurts and new body developments. Gymnastics stunts puberty, and it's difficult to readjust.
I'm not sure if it was the best choice to put her on the team....She's an excellent bar worker, one of the best in the for, but she's pretty much a one-event gymnast, I was wondering why they didn't put more of an all-rounder on the team (ie Jiang Yuyuan), since China has so many strong bar workers already
um 20....
Kexin is 20.
Finally. But still the transfer :/
But I am seriously happy that she didn't fell.
yeah, that's probably the team, but what do you think about the chinese team? I personally think it will be Yao Jinnan, Huang Qiushuang, Sui Lu, He Kexin, and either shang chunsong or cheng fei
Actually she is. Look her up, type down He Kexin and you'll see her age and stuff.
Nobody does that combination as well as her.
*couldn't perform the same level in 2011 - she didn't medal at all that year actually and spent 2011/2012 getting her 7+ routine back. The CHN coaches took a risk and put her in the Olympic team despite her inconsistencies.
Scored ridiculously low? Says who? 8.550 looks like a VERY fair execution score to me.
sooo..she's going to London with the very same exercise as the last olympics..
i think they want HKX to put an amazing score up to put them ahead or something... although i did want them to put JYY since shes more of an AA gymnast... but now im not so sure!!
Wow, ok I'm chinese and looking at her in 2008 and now in 2012, there is NO way she was 16 when she competed in the olympics.
Despite their beautiful lines, pirouetting technique and good form, many Chinese gymnasts have a really laboured technique when doing the kip cast handstand.
yayy im so happy to see her finally execute this routine quite well. i knew she had it in her. i hoe she can keep this up for london.
also her releases were great. still hoping she'll improve that hiccup a bit
she finally hit!
Glad she finally got through the routine, I hope she can keep it up till London! I wouldn't say she is in the hunt for the gold but she is a contender since the Russians and Tweddle have been receiving higher scores than her.
Someone commented here that He Kexin was 18 in 2012- that would have made her 14 in the 2008 Olympics and underage to compete in 2008. (Several reports said she was 14 in 2008 but those online sources disappeared once the age inquiry was underway.) The age thing is not about ability- it's about the eligibility as per RULES to be allowed to compete in the Olympic games. Part of the competition is being eligible to compete, without it, one cannot participate. If the rules say you have to be 16 (or turning 16) in the Olympic year, that means if you are not and will not turn 16 in the Olympic year, you cannot and ARE NOT ELIGIBLE TO COMPETE OR in other words, Participate in the Olympic games. Similarly, if once you are there and your scores don't qualify, you can't continue to the next rounds. If after all finals, your scores are not of the top 3 highest for any apparatus, you don't get a medal. It's that simple. I agree she is talented. I agree she has amazing skills. I agree she worked very hard to get the medals she has. She is a cutie too. It's not her fault if they did lie about her age. BUT if she was in fact underage in 2008, she was not supposed to be competing at all and that takes away a medal from someone who was eligible and who should have gotten a medal instead, that is why people talk about it. It is not being a "sore loser" talking about the age REQUIREMENT as per Olympic RULES- it was talked about the week before anyone participated in the qualifications in 2008- before anyone competed. I personally have no issue with 14 year olds competing. We've seen it before when the age minimum was at 14 and 15- and many of them worked hard too. But see, the Olympics has rules to be able to participate. Those rules apply to everyone. I wish her luck and happiness in her life and if she was 16 in the 2008 Olympics, more power to her to look so young.
Late reply, but I'll respond anyways. To be honest, she looked sixteen to me. It's probably because I'm Turkish, and we look "young" compared to Americans as well. Eastern Europeans, Russians, and Asians--in general--tend to look "young"when compared to American age standards. Even Komova looked twelve to me when she was sixteen.
I'm sorry, but I must disagree. Look at the video of her at the olympics. She is clearly prepubescent. If she was at least fifteen in that year, I find it very odd that she was prepubescent; I don't believe that the average age of (well nourished) girls' menarche, in China, is THAT far behind the average age here in the west.
Look at Simone Biles at the 2013 Worlds, or McKayla Marony at the 2012 Olympics. Both were just a couple of months past fifteen, and both had fairly mature figures with "womanly curves". Not voluptuous or over-heavy up top, but noticeably past (or at LEAST well into puberty). Now go look at footage of Daniela Silivas at the 1985 Worlds. It has since been discovered that Silivas was thirteen at the time. Compare the figures of all these gymnasts, and tell me where you think He Kexin falls. If you are honest with yourself, I don't see any way you could say anything other than that she was AT MOST fourteen in the 2008 Olympic year, and therefore not eligible by the rules.
Underage female competitors have significant advantages over older competitors, which is why it is so unfair to cheat in that way. It is, after all, supposed to be WOMEN'S gymnastics. I think the best solution would be to bring junior level competition to the "regular" Olympics. Let girls from, say, 12 to 15 compete at the junior level and 16 and up at the women' s level. That would be the fairest thing IMO.
how do you know she is not 20 then?
why hasn't her routine changed a bit since 2008? You'd think they do something new for the 2012 olympics....It's kind of boring seeing the same routine 4 years in a row.
Great execution by a girl who is growing up and is losing some of the suppleness and rhythm that she used to have when she was a little tyke. It's going to be hard for her to get the kinds of execution scores she did in Beijing again in London.
i love her leo!
OMG She looks sooooo much older than she did in Beijing! Is she hitting a growth spurt now?
The Chinese said they were training Shaposhnikova transfers...why the hell haven't they taught her xD
Good job. She's a cute kid.
hahahaha I so laughed at your comment xDDDD
Kexin is awesome, I hope she gets on the Olympic team and defends her bars title! :)
This would'e scored a 16.95 at a Romanian competition!
Marry Me He Kexin :)
She's beautiful...:-)
Not that I like gabby Douglas but I think if she really wants the gold she can get it
watever
I am just a gymnastics fan supporting every team, and despising people use sports as propaganda or a tool for promoting nationalism. I am just commenting to communicate with and learn from other fans like you. So if I am wrong, that's okay, but please teach me back or reply politely instead of demonstrating your arrogance, prejudice or speculation towards fans who do not agree with you.
I'm so tired of the 'She wasn't 16 in 2008' comments. Asians are built this way. My 17 year old sister gets mistaken for a 12 year old all the time. China won the team gold. They deserved it. Get over it. Now let's all drop this issue and enjoy London, shall we?
well said. requesting the highest of fives hahaha
actually, he kexin is 18 years old.
most gymnasts are 18 in the olympics. some are older and some are younger. 18 years old should be the climax in your gymnastics career. but right now, shes failing
she is really 14 years old, that's why Chinese government doen't want the olympic's comittee to sniff around ;)
I hope she doesn't win in London
watever
He Kexin is such a beautiful gymnast! She is pure magic on this event, she can do a really good floor routine also. She was sooooo underscored in london, she should of one she is no doubt the best on bars. But she will always be a cham in my heart. China is really the best on Bars and Beam.
