    I use batching for watching CZcams videos. Whenever I open CZcams and have the urge to watch a video, I add it to watch later. At the end of the day I see my list and only watch upto a set limit, often times I end up saving time throughout the day and removing few videos without even watching them as I just wanted a distraction at that time of the day.

    In planning, "batching" is called "blocking" where you block certain times of the day off for certain types of tasks so you don't get caught up in planning down to the minute and second of every day. Your life becomes so much more relaxed so I definitely think this will help people manage their time

I just wanted to share that batching related tasks is good but not too much! I say find the right balance and if a task takes less than five minutes to complete like cleaning the dishes after eating then do it now and don't wait for it to pile up. Checking off to-do lists produces feel-good chemicals in the brain batching takes longer to check that to-do list off. Thanks for the reply and TGIF 13th haha!

      @danilozaccardi864 Pƙed 4 lety +4

      I guess that the two things can coesist. For example in music you can have a pattern applied to a musical phrase that can be repeated and applied to different type of scales and sound and put in different context. Therefore you can recognize that same pattern in diffent/new songs and in that way you can trigger the flow state by novelty and pattern recognition at the same time. I think that this can work with other things too

You wouldn't chop a tomato before it has to be cooked b/c that would put you behind and then it's a constant game of "ketchup." 😆 But really, batching makes sense in the kitchen and outside of it, I just never thought to do it with my work. (I was just writing the same word on a new line for three pages, then the second and the third and the next one after that, after measuring, how many lines the sentence is going to take first).
    Because of the punishment I've realized, that I can do this technique with everything else. Like, coming up with the illustration ideas as a batch, drawing them all as a batch, etc. I have separate folders for articles to read later and every CZcams video I want to watch, like someone else have already said in their comment, I add to "watch later", and then do it as a batch.
    The flow thing. I'm so pleasantly surprised that you're interested in this.

    Hi there just stumbled across this video and boy am I shocked at the label "Batching". I have been doing this only for the last 20 YEARS. I did not know that's what its called. Hey, I was classed as a selfish person cos I would do all my tasks ie, when I need to go shopping, I would go to the bank and the post office at the same time in one area. When working in the kitchen I would cook, clean, mop and other stuff all in one go. I find 'batching' tasks are the most productive as well as an effiecient way of getting tasks done. I am so used to it now that I do this without realising I am doing it. WOW. Thank you for this realisation. I really enjoy your videos so keep them coming.

    I'm batching many of my tasks but I stopped it a few month ago for all the weekly household cleaning things. Now I do one little task every morning and have time on saturday mornings for things that need more time like gardening, cleaning windows, preparing saturday nicht cooking sessions. Whatever comes up that I need to do or want to do I always have that time slot. So far it works really really good. And it is clean troughout the whole week, another plus. Not only because I'm doing something on a daily basis but more because I'm not skipping some overwhelming day-long cleaning session. Wow lot of thoughts on cleaning.

    Matt, Have you seen heard of Day Wise app (android only) it uses batches to deliver notifications to you. Its basically traps all your notifications on your phone into one place to go look at either ad hoc or on schedule it will notify you "you have 14 new notifications". Those could range from Snap Chat to gmail messages. The best part is the VIP list. You can add specific contacts to ignore those rules and get those notifications immediately no matter the platform (Snap Chat, Gmail etc..) Not sure if there is an iPhone equivalent but if so I guarantee you would dig it. No I don't work for Day Wise and I almost didn't install it due to the fact its "backed" by Duke University.

      @codystewy Pƙed 4 lety +1

      @@insert_name1632 I don't want to disable notifications though. I like getting them. I just prefer to look at them whenever I choose to with zero distractions during some days. Some days I want them instantly. This app allows you to do that without re-configuring every single app. I agree that deactivating notifications is a possible solution, but for me I still need emails from certain people to be instant and some I don't care if they are instant. It is more efficient in my use case to open one app instead of 10 apps to comb through notifications.
