NO2 is nitrites and NO3 is nitrates. NO2 is relatively inert - it's when it turns into nitrosamines that it is a big problem. The veggies have the nitrates, after chewing and being mixed with facultative anaerobic bacteria they are converted to nitrites, which are then converted to NO. However when nitrites are exposed to high heat in the presence of amino acids, they can turn into nitrosamines - think grilled hot dogs.

Hi Mic. Big fan and 1-year vegan here. I have a small correction for your animation. When the artheroschlerosis ruptures, the mechanism that leads to blocking of the arteries is not that the foam cells themselves block the artery, rather it's because the artherosclerotic plaque builds up collagen, lipids, and smooth muscle cells and exposure of these in the blood after plaque rupture leads to the activation of platelets and the coagulation cascade system. This coagulates the blood, forming a blood clot on the surface on the ruptured plaque which can block the coronary artery partially or completely. Furthermore the blood clot can sometimes break free and then travel around the body and get stuck in any kind of artery (embolism). Sometimes it gets stuck in the leg, sometimes the lungs (pulmonary embolism), brain artery (stroke), or a coronary artery (heart attack). NB: It has been a while since i learned this stuff in uni, so I may be wrong about some stuff. Please feel free to correct.
The info on the power of leafy green veggies alone being rich with valuable nitrates is well worth the price if admission for this vid. If only more folks were aware and accepting of this stuff. Thanks again for the valuable content Mic.

It wasn't that long ago when many thought the only way of reversing heart disease was a vegan, very low fat diet. That is until 2005 when the major medical university in Israel reversed heart disease using three different diets. The first was lower fat ( 35% ), the 2nd was the famous Med diet, and thirdly of all things a low carb diet. The direct correlation wasn't what they ate or what they didn't eat. The direct correlation was how much systolic blood pressure dropped. The more systolic blood pressure dropped the more heart disease reversed. Now, how is it possible that all three diets plus the vegan low fat diet also reversed heart disease considering that they are all wildly different? What is it that all four programs have in common? All the programs eliminated processed food. And with the elimination of processed food they all saw their consumption of sodium drop like a rock. Depending on which study you believe both processed and restaurant food contains 75 to 85 percent of the sodium the average person consumes. So, drop the sodium to 25 percent of what you consumed before, drop a few pounds and you'll reverse your heart disease. We should have known that because the Inter-Salt study showed us the few populations on this planet who consume little or not salt don't have heart disease. In fact they don't suffer from strokes, dementia, stomach cancer, or high blood pressure either. It's pretty obvious that it's salt that causes damages to the arteries and in the end heart disease as well as many other ills. Dump the salt and you're on your way to a healthy heart, brain, liver, and kidneys.
Man this is a VERY interesting point, thank you for throwing it in here. I'm following Esselstyns diet with like 5% high qual fatty animal products once in awhile (kinda like bluezones did). But I always wondered how that is so healthy when a lot of vegan products are just so massively sodium loaded like there's no tomorrow lol. Such a hassle to get it all clean

Tamas , not sure if this helps ease your mind, but a few months ago I had a heart attack and was rushed to a heart hospital and while there, they had my diet restricted from fat and salt but gave me all of the coffee I wanted..Coffee is not bad in moderation

Great video. I hope the faithful doctors keep repeating the studies to keep the data as recent as possible. Who will Dr Esselstyn pass the torch to take over for him?
In 2016 I saw a video of this cute white little pig in a very tight cage that he could not move. It broke my heart, so I stopped eating pork, beef, and chicken. A year later my cholesterol went down from 289 to 228. Then I stopped eating eggs, so it went down to 209. Now I stopped sea food and dairy. I feel better than I ever felt before. In November I will check my cholesterol again.
This really gives me hope because I have NAFLD/NASH, a very fatty liver with supposedly minimal to no scarring, yet I was diagnosed with portal hypertension after it was discovered my portal vein was "slightly dilated." Normally people with portal hypertension have cirrhosis and whenever I would try to educate myself on this I kept hearing and reading that my PH was irreversible. I am turning 30 in just a couple of weeks and I wanted to have another baby some day soon after I lose some more weight but I kept reading it is extremely dangerous for both the mother and baby if the mother has PH. I have also worried how long I will be around. I have a lot of issues that is making my journey to good health difficult and I am getting very little help from "medical" "professionals." I cut out a lot of animal products for a while but only just started eating a WFPBD with the goal of going oil free once I adjust to it better. I don't want to get too overwhelmed and burn out at the drastic change. Thanks to this and some other videos of yours I have hope I can get this more under control and heal so I can stay here longer for my son and maybe even give them a sibling one day.
Hi Mike. I really enjoyed this video, as a Canadian for sure, the one you just did on our AWEsome new food chart. I do have a suggestion, though, I would like to see a one minute 'what we learned and what we should do' for those who just want to skip to the end...eg...bottom line, eat more spinach, collard greens. Have a good one
Hey mic, great video. My grandpa is on warfarin blood thinners to prevent clotting after a couple life threatening effects. Hi risk partially comes from being over weight and from a physical trauma to his leg many decades ago. He eats a very high plant diet he unfortunately also likes mayo and other less desirable option. His doctors have told him to back off all greens as the vitamin k will thicken his blood. He's interested in improving his health with diet but not confident in the efficacy for his situation.
Very timely! Just this weekend my mom's (morbidly obese) friend (she's a cardiologist, actually) was very disturbed by my eating (it was my mom's birthday, and she noticed I had my own food and wasn't touching meat) and called my mom the next day and warned, that I am ruining my health and that she is worried. Well, I'm worried about her, actually...
Can you ask to speak with her about your vegan nutrition knowledge? If she's open to it, she could have a much more positive impact on her patients' outcomes.
Are there any other diets that reduce the risk or reverse CVD? I.e DASH, Mediterranean... Is the reversal CVD and dietary intervention just the result of people adhering to a diet (i.e. avoiding processed goods etc)? Does a CVD reversal on a vegan diet allow that individual to thrive (i.e. some of these foods are very fibrous which may be more difficult for older populations to consume)? What about nitrate addition and colon cancer? Does source matter (i.e. nitrates in plant vs animal products vs processing in either)? Do you think you can answer these questions and remain skeptical, or, do you just look at what research Dr. Esselstyn does and regurgitate his references?
My husband and I love your videos and have been WFPB for two years. A question I struggle with sometimes is if there are any new studies showing the heart disease reversal? The studies in the links all look about 20 years old or more (like Esselstyn's). Do you know of any new stuff? I care a lot because though I eat WFPB very low oil/sat fats, I still have LDL of 169 (on top of a CT heart scan of 502.) I feel like my life depends on getting this stuff right. Any thoughts?
Normal ejection fraction is 50-70% and to hear the gentleman that had 27% was sad. As a student echocardiogram tech, it frustrating that I cant say a work to patients because that’s considered “beyond my scope of practice”. *le sigh* anyways, great video as always Mic! 🌱👍
The problem with citing ornish’s study is they also are low-fat animal proteins like salmon and I believe egg whites. They also did walking. Hard to cite that as a vegan diet.
Hi Mic. I love your vídeos. My kid has been diagnosed with a rare brain tumor, that I'm sure has little to do with food. I'm wondering if you have read anything about reducing the effects of radiotherapy or chemo in children through diet. Thx.
There are studies on chemo being more effective with methionine restriction. You should also do so with choline as well. An anti inflammatory diet always helps and there are specific phytochemicals (leafy greens, flax, soy, onions/garlic and several other foods)/antioxidants and vitamins that directly fight cancer and lower inflammation. I seriously recommend looking into Dr. Gregers channel and searching "cancer", there are so many videos.
@Shawn Darling There more than one risk factor for cancer. @Marta Insa Gualde By the way I forgot to mention look into immunotherapy and targeted therapy, though I don't know if they'll be viable for a brain tumor.

Great job on the animation!!
Awesome research great animations, thank you for your videos.
THANK YOU so much for this science-filled video Mic 🤗😍❤️❤️❤️❤️
Great animation indeed!
Thanks for the life-saving video. The information is precise and well expressed.
I'm an omnivore, but I do enjoy your videos. This video will be of great help for people facing cardiovascular issues. You are doing a great job representing the Vegan way life. I do enjoy the humor in your presentations.
Preach mic! I’m not a vegan but try to eat plant based a few times a week and hope to one day go full time. Love your videos!
i love these reverse heart disease videos
It's so cute how proud you are of the animations ☺️☺️☺️
I love your new animations! Keep rockin', Mic.!
Mic, I’m so happy I found you on CZcams. I love all your videos. You always explain things well you have evidence to back it up and yet you keep it funny too! I just think you are wonderful!
Hi Mic, awsome video as always. :) I see you don't have anything on coffee yet. Could you possibly... ;) I'm getting quite mixed signals from simple google searches, from it being the devil's blood to all the way being a health food.
Try to source a good one (little pesticides and herbicides), not get addicted (under 6 cups a day, and don’t have it right before meals.
@The22726 I binge watched them all. Great stuff :D

Thanks folks, I'm switching to green tea :D
Tamas , not sure if this helps ease your mind, but a few months ago I had a heart attack and was rushed to a heart hospital and while there, they had my diet restricted from fat and salt but gave me all of the coffee I wanted..Coffee is not bad in moderation

I have a bad valve and coronary heart disease. Any updates on the best diet for healing my heart naturally? I exercise daily and am seeking a way to reverse my heart disease and live a long healthy life, naturally. Any tips or ideas you have would be highly valued. I am a new subscriber. Thanks.
This was an excellent video...informative, well researched and dead on. Thanks for what you do.
i have an overweight boy that i am training he doesn't believe me when i say plant based diet is the healthiest way to eat. I'm gonna try to show him your videos he likes data
Dr. Greger all day.

Hey , great video as usual. Can you make some more videos on diabetes or high blood pressure and diet?? I need inspiration past veganuary!!!
Animations... very impressed you did those! Skills! 👍
Great video! This is the type of video I come here for. Excellent!
Really nice work on the animations!
Hi. Im 22 yrs old Male. My doctor told me about my ecg that i have a blockedge .I'm too young . hope i can reverse my heart disease
Not directly related this, but have you seen the new EAT-Lancet report on healthy and sustainable diets? It's making some waves in development and policy circles. You should definitely check it out. The report itself is ~40 pages, but there's a nice summary document with infographics etc.
i'm so very happy for people who went on the diet and got their health and lives back. keep spreading the word, there is still too much unnecessary pain and death in this world, we shall overcome the age of ignorance, into a better future for all. * , he says while chewing an apple and a carrot at the same time nom nom nom *
Love the new graphics and visuals!
Great video. I hope the faithful doctors keep repeating the studies to keep the data as recent as possible.
Who will Dr Esselstyn pass the torch to take over for him?
Great content and references. Thank you, Michael.
Thanks for all your videos Mic!
Really appreciate your informative videos, Mic! 👏
Bart is gonna be TRIGGERED AF by this!!!!!! 😂😂😂😂😂
Mic, your communication skills are excellent.
“I don’t know this man” is so creepy 😂. Excellent handcrafted animations, Mic.
Great animations! I love your videos!
Have you seen studies regarding aortic aneurysm
Hey mic, great video. My grandpa is on warfarin blood thinners to prevent clotting after a couple life threatening effects. Hi risk partially comes from being over weight and from a physical trauma to his leg many decades ago. He eats a very high plant diet he unfortunately also likes mayo and other less desirable option. His doctors have told him to back off all greens as the vitamin k will thicken his blood. He's interested in improving his health with diet but not confident in the efficacy for his situation.
Wow I learnt a lot! Subscribed.
Mic THE MANNN!!!! Keep up the got work . Peace !
I have Congestive Heart Failure how I reverse it or have it get improve it.
Great production value,
Can I ask, Is your hair always that wet, oily, or gelled?
Another great video 😊
I hope this gets many, many more views!
Cool animations, bro. I like it!
I’m so early this time! Love your new 3d content!
Wow! Your renderings are very cool!
The graphics add a lot. Cool!
Love your new 3D animations!
@@tamcon72 that is no easy feat, but I will definitely try!
@@margaritap.9459 Good luck!

What do you think about VG channel termination?
senf glas i didn’t even know about that. Google CZcams absolutely suck.
@Christopher Har V unfortunately yes R.I.P

Great video. Thanks Mic.
It has everything to do with food.
@Shawn Darling There more than one risk factor for cancer.
@Marta Insa Gualde By the way I forgot to mention look into immunotherapy and targeted therapy, though I don't know if they'll be viable for a brain tumor.

Loved the Watership Down reference. Also, I'm now having phantom chest pains imagining an artery pimple...
Thanks for the information. There are doctors saying you can not reverse this disease. Great video thanks!
Believe the docs. Mic is cool but he’s no medically trained doctor.
Can I just eat a handful of spinach 6 x a day and be done? Cooking it seems to take too much time.
Steaming it 2 minutes
Beautiful animation!!
Excellent Job...Thanks for sharing..
Amazing video as usual.
Wow, What an amazing video!

Yes, rancid oils and processed GMO sugar is a major cause of Heart Disease but the absence of the fat-soluble K-1 from dark leafy greens and fermented foods of the fat-soluble vitamin K-2 is missing from the western diet today.NITRIC OXID can be found in certain plants but also from sun exposure to your skin . Love the animations, really does a lot more to help people understand. Dr Josh explained this "artery zit" (5:30 in your video) here (minute 6:21 "plaque rupture" czcams.com/video/ceg9uEIyFkU/video.html) but your animation video is so much more entertaining! [ps. When Dr Josh says "cholesterol crystals" in his video being the cause of the rupture vs Mic's AWESOME animation saying it's the foam cells, for the science nerds to clarify, foam cells are macrophages that are loaded with cholesterol, this can form cholesterol crystals, these crystals when needle sharp can rupture the zit.]
