I lived the reality of this video. When I fasted into Veganism, late one night while I was asleep during my second week into this lifestyle I felt and heard my heart free up dramatically. It was loud, it lasted a few minutes and sounded like a drain that was being unclogged and I felt AMAZING immediately during and after it happened. That's how I knew I was doing the right thing for myself and that's why I am staying Vegan.

    • @TONY-bv3fk
      @TONY-bv3fk Před 5 lety +1

NO2 is nitrites and NO3 is nitrates. NO2 is relatively inert - it's when it turns into nitrosamines that it is a big problem. The veggies have the nitrates, after chewing and being mixed with facultative anaerobic bacteria they are converted to nitrites, which are then converted to NO. However when nitrites are exposed to high heat in the presence of amino acids, they can turn into nitrosamines - think grilled hot dogs.

I’d like to comment about this. I personally was diagnosed with coronary artery disease in 2007 at the age of 45. All the docs said I was too young to be having heart issues but guess what, in the cath lab they found a 90% blockage in my circumflex artery. I had a stent placed and did pretty well for a while. It’s important to note I was a vegetarian at the time, which really did nothing to compensate for a childhood of convenience food and horrible nutrition (Spaghetios anyone?).
I was always a gym rat so had the exercise down , but a few years ago I knew something was beginning to be wrong again. I’m lucky to have a cardiologist who espouses WFPB, vegan diet. I live in Houston and was seeing Dr. Baxter Montgomery for a while, who you referenced in your video. He’s great, BTW!
Anyway, I initially went vegan but noticed no change whatsoever. That was because I relied heavily on vegan convenience food, fake cheese and vegan pizza. It wasn’t until I bought the WFPB books and ditched all oils, refined sugar, and vegan convenience food that I began to see real change. In just 2 months I’ve dropped 14 pounds, am thinking clearer, and am starting to believe my arteries are beginning to truly heal.
Thank you Mic for continuing to preach this message, because it is so needed. I thought I was eating pretty healthy, but it wasn’t until I adopted all of the elements that real change occurred. I love your channel, am an RN so love the science, and love your message! I started my veg journey for the animals, but stayed with it for my 💜

Hi Mic. Big fan and 1-year vegan here.
I have a small correction for your animation. When the artheroschlerosis ruptures, the mechanism that leads to blocking of the arteries is not that the foam cells themselves block the artery, rather it's because the artherosclerotic plaque builds up collagen, lipids, and smooth muscle cells and exposure of these in the blood after plaque rupture leads to the activation of platelets and the coagulation cascade system. This coagulates the blood, forming a blood clot on the surface on the ruptured plaque which can block the coronary artery partially or completely. Furthermore the blood clot can sometimes break free and then travel around the body and get stuck in any kind of artery (embolism). Sometimes it gets stuck in the leg, sometimes the lungs (pulmonary embolism), brain artery (stroke), or a coronary artery (heart attack).
NB: It has been a while since i learned this stuff in uni, so I may be wrong about some stuff. Please feel free to correct.

It wasn't that long ago when many thought the only way of reversing heart disease was a vegan, very low fat diet. That is until 2005 when the major medical university in Israel reversed heart disease using three different diets. The first was lower fat ( 35% ), the 2nd was the famous Med diet, and thirdly of all things a low carb diet. The direct correlation wasn't what they ate or what they didn't eat. The direct correlation was how much systolic blood pressure dropped. The more systolic blood pressure dropped the more heart disease reversed. Now, how is it possible that all three diets plus the vegan low fat diet also reversed heart disease considering that they are all wildly different? What is it that all four programs have in common? All the programs eliminated processed food. And with the elimination of processed food they all saw their consumption of sodium drop like a rock. Depending on which study you believe both processed and restaurant food contains 75 to 85 percent of the sodium the average person consumes. So, drop the sodium to 25 percent of what you consumed before, drop a few pounds and you'll reverse your heart disease. We should have known that because the Inter-Salt study showed us the few populations on this planet who consume little or not salt don't have heart disease. In fact they don't suffer from strokes, dementia, stomach cancer, or high blood pressure either. It's pretty obvious that it's salt that causes damages to the arteries and in the end heart disease as well as many other ills. Dump the salt and you're on your way to a healthy heart, brain, liver, and kidneys.

Not directly related this, but have you seen the new EAT-Lancet report on healthy and sustainable diets? It's making some waves in development and policy circles. You should definitely check it out. The report itself is ~40 pages, but there's a nice summary document with infographics etc.

A year later my cholesterol went down from 289 to 228. Then I stopped eating eggs, so it went down to 209. Now I stopped sea food and dairy. I feel better than I ever felt before. In November I will check my cholesterol again.

This really gives me hope because I have NAFLD/NASH, a very fatty liver with supposedly minimal to no scarring, yet I was diagnosed with portal hypertension after it was discovered my portal vein was "slightly dilated." Normally people with portal hypertension have cirrhosis and whenever I would try to educate myself on this I kept hearing and reading that my PH was irreversible. I am turning 30 in just a couple of weeks and I wanted to have another baby some day soon after I lose some more weight but I kept reading it is extremely dangerous for both the mother and baby if the mother has PH. I have also worried how long I will be around. I have a lot of issues that is making my journey to good health difficult and I am getting very little help from "medical" "professionals." I cut out a lot of animal products for a while but only just started eating a WFPBD with the goal of going oil free once I adjust to it better. I don't want to get too overwhelmed and burn out at the drastic change. Thanks to this and some other videos of yours I have hope I can get this more under control and heal so I can stay here longer for my son and maybe even give them a sibling one day.

Hi risk partially comes from being over weight and from a physical trauma to his leg many decades ago. He eats a very high plant diet he unfortunately also likes mayo and other less desirable option. His doctors have told him to back off all greens as the vitamin k will thicken his blood. He's interested in improving his health with diet but not confident in the efficacy for his situation.

Are there any other diets that reduce the risk or reverse CVD? I.e DASH, Mediterranean... Is the reversal CVD and dietary intervention just the result of people adhering to a diet (i.e. avoiding processed goods etc)? Does a CVD reversal on a vegan diet allow that individual to thrive (i.e. some of these foods are very fibrous which may be more difficult for older populations to consume)? What about nitrate addition and colon cancer? Does source matter (i.e. nitrates in plant vs animal products vs processing in either)? Do you think you can answer these questions and remain skeptical, or, do you just look at what research Dr. Esselstyn does and regurgitate his references?

My husband and I love your videos and have been WFPB for two years. A question I struggle with sometimes is if there are any new studies showing the heart disease reversal? The studies in the links all look about 20 years old or more (like Esselstyn's). Do you know of any new stuff? I care a lot because though I eat WFPB very low oil/sat fats, I still have LDL of 169 (on top of a CT heart scan of 502.) I feel like my life depends on getting this stuff right. Any thoughts?

There are studies on chemo being more effective with methionine restriction. You should also do so with choline as well.
An anti inflammatory diet always helps and there are specific phytochemicals (leafy greens, flax, soy, onions/garlic and several other foods)/antioxidants and vitamins that directly fight cancer and lower inflammation. I seriously recommend looking into Dr. Gregers channel and searching "cancer", there are so many videos.

Dr Josh explained this "artery zit" (5:30 in your video) here (minute 6:21 "plaque rupture" czcams.com/video/ceg9uEIyFkU/video.html) but your animation video is so much more entertaining! [ps. When Dr Josh says "cholesterol crystals" in his video being the cause of the rupture vs Mic's AWESOME animation saying it's the foam cells, for the science nerds to clarify, foam cells are macrophages that are loaded with cholesterol, this can form cholesterol crystals, these crystals when needle sharp can rupture the zit.]
