SOAK: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert

The opening line of SOAK's debut album - "A teenage heart is an unguided dart" - contains the first words I heard from 19-year-old singer-songwriter Bridie Monds-Watson. Now, she's bringing that fragile, pure, thickly Irish-accented voice to the Tiny Desk.
Before We Forgot How To Dream, SOAK's debut, is one of my favorite albums of 2015. Monds-Watson's songs are about growing up and trying to understand adults and friends and life; though they're quiet, they aren't dour. They can be funny and smart, atmospheric and delicate - so much more than might be expected from a lone Irish teenager with an acoustic guitar.

Saw this amazing young woman during SXSW. The bar was packed and extremely loud. She nervously got on stage and the moment she began to sing, her beautiful voice shut everyone up at once
SOAK - "B a noBody" is the best song and performance I have heard on several months of Tiny Desk Concert video podcasts. It's actually much better solo than the album version. She deserves much more exposure and success.
"I prayed for you/you know I don't like Jesus". This hit me hard, she is absolutely amazing!

I saw her with the lumineers in Santa Barbara a month back and she was awesome. Very sincere performer.
ATTN SOAK: You don't need a band. This is the best fucking set and you're a treasure. Just literally, actually, be you. The more produced your sound gets, the less we get of you.

This is absolutely the best set ever done on NPR by a solo artist.
Only once every few years does a talent like this appear, beautiful voice, brilliant lyricist, this kid, s got a long and deserving carrear ahead of her, mesmerising 🤩

On the shelf in the back displayed is a copy of the album by '80s DC band Tiny Desk Unit. "Guessing" the program name "may" have been influenced by them. I was lucky to have caught them.
I can't understand the words she was singing but I absolutely love the beauty of the sound, the melody of her music. I guess that's enough :)

Is it wrong for me to say that she seemed to me like a female Ed Sheeran? Maybe just visually, but I still have to say she's a great artist. Definitely enough to get me looking for more of her work.
I'd love to see a collab between her and King Krule, two very distinct voices and singing styles that I think would mesh really well.

+Öykü Özer actually, when you are a singer. there is no "fake" singing voice. well, I could abstract that out to all art forms.
+Öykü Özer you should probably just listen to some music outside of America and England and improve your attitude. She's Irish and her voice and singing dialect is beautiful.
Some excuse for a musician
I will never understand the pull soak has on people or how she has got to where she is in her career. She can barely sing, her songwriting is terrible and even as a british person, I cannot understand a word she says. I have been following these tinydesks for a long time now, and this is not worthy of the others. Not even close.
Sam Bosworth Maybe it doesn't matter if you don't understand the pull she has on people and you should take your negativity and "I've failed as a musician so i'll bash other musicians for attention" attitude elsewhere. Also, shes from Derry which is in Northern Ireland and not Britain. And also, If you say musics bad because you cant understand the words someones saying then you're dismissing a lot of punk + Blues music which is pretty dumb.
