I'm going to be honest with you. Randy, the waterless urinals that we have here. They don't have a trap in them. And all the other urinals that we deal with are such a small trap way that we have a hard time snaking them out. Whereas the waterless journals don't have a trap. They stink more but they're a lot easier to snake and then we just pour a couple buckets of hot water down and you're good to go. Anyway, it's enough chatting. Thanks for watching brother. That is not all calcium - it is mostly urine salt. Clogged urinals are never fun, but they can be much easier to clear by using just hydrochloric/muriatic acid. Pour a little in the urinals, cover the urinals with a trash bag and tell maintenance to remove the trash bags and flush the urinals in a few hours.
Calcium oxalate crystals. I'm not a scientist. I unclog drains for a living. Most people who watch this are not scientists either. Thanks for watching. Have a great day.
@@Jaythatdrainguy You are correct. However, when a non-plumber hears “calcium”, they are thinking “hard water” - not urine. Calcium oxalate is created by urine. This is actually what kidney stones are made of. I suppose my use of the term “urine salt” really is inaccurate and not as accurate as using the word “calcium”. However, if you had used the term “calcium oxalate” in the video, I would not have commented because I know what that is, but most people, like you said, are not scientists, and would just assume you were talking about calcium. Heck, even most plumbers think that stuff is just plain old calcium buildup from hard water.

Just out of curiosity, since a lot of plumbers are here watching, is there any periodic maintenance that urinal owners need to do to prevent this? Occasional acid flushed down the trap? (if the amount were carefully controlled, it would be neutralized and pose no threat to downstream pipes and equipment) or is it a simple matter of not maintaining a proper water flow? (bad flush valves, people trying to save money on water, etc.)
Yeah a treatment would definitely be helpful on a regular bases.
Those almost need an acid treatment... They have aome weird shit our plumbers treat our urinals with that seems to work.
