  • We're already at the end of our Bloodborne playthrough. I know, I'm sad too. But let's remember the good memories as I ruin Gehrman and the Moon Presence. Also fighting Lady Maria and Orphan of Kos, easily 2 of the hardest bosses in the entire game
    Bloodborne is a 2015 action role-playing game developed by FromSoftware and published by Sony for the PlayStation 4. Bloodborne follows the player's character, a Hunter, through the decrepit Gothic, Victorian-era-inspired city of Yharnam, whose inhabitants are afflicted with a blood-borne disease. Attempting to find the source of the plague, the player's character unravels the city's mysteries while fighting beasts and cosmic beings

      @@trickytreyperfected1482 I actually liked Miyazaki's take-that at that particular aspect of Lovecraft's works. Like, he gives the cosmic horror aspects the respectful tribute that they do deserve for having defined a genre, but then he takes the scientists and Londoners that would usually be the main characters in HPL's works and just portrays them as the worst assholes imaginable while having "the outsiders" -- like Eileen and Gilbert -- be the only people with decent qualities around and also portraying most Great Ones as actually benevolent beings (contrary to HPL's ideas that "superior races" should subjugate "inferior races")... In that way, Bloodborne is basically both the ultimate tribute to Lovecraft's works, while also outright telling Lovecraft and his own personal opinions and ideals to go suffocate on a pile of dungpies.

    The fight with Gerhman is a fight of mercy. He doesn’t want to kill you he wants to release you from the hunters dream. By fighting you, he’s actually trying to protect you and you are trying to do the same for him. It’s sad kind of. You are both doing your best to help each other, it’s hard to see it because it’s done through a fight.

    That final boss fight with Gehrman was really fast, it's almost like you speedran Bloodborne, this series has been relatively brief compared to the other playthroughs, since you're already very skilled at the game and didn't have to spend as much time mastering the mechanics. But it was undoubtedly one of the most enjoyable series to watch, it was really satisfying to watch you play a game you've played before and you basically had a smile on your face the whole time. This was quite a journey.

I was simply never one for dying over and over again and risk losing all those hard earned souls. Now, Elden Ring's come out and thought I'd give it a try since it has an open world, which is what draws my attention in games. I've not yet beaten it, but I'm absolutely in love with it and I'm actually having a good time fighting most bosses as well.

    51:52 About Gehrman's lore, the umbilical cord found in the Old Abandoned Workshop (which belonged to him) says that "Every Great One loses its child, and then yearns for a surrogate. The Third Umbilical Cord precipitated the encounter with the pale moon, which beckoned the hunters and conceived the hunter's dream". Gehrman was the first hunter tasked by the Church with killing beasts (to hide the fact the blood they were consuming turned them into those beasts), but after the Church decided Gehrman's workshop hunters had served their purpose (and relying on a new hunter faction led by Ludwig), Gehrman (by using one third of the umbilical cord taken from the Orphan) made a contract with Moon Presence (another Great One) in order to continue his duty in the Hunter's Dream (but since Gehrman was shackled to the dream, it eventually drove him mad). It is thought that German either becomes a (temporary) surrogate for Moon Presence or is tasked with finding one (which is why Moon Presence tries to embrace the player, who takes the place of Gehrman over the dream if you haven't used three thirds of the umbilical cords).
    About the connection between Gehrman and the Orphan of Kos, it is known that they share the same sound file for one of their cries, and that Gehrman was among the hunters responsible for the Fishing Hamlet massacre (where the Orphan of Kos was killed and his cord taken; and the villagers who worshipped the carcass of Kos were slaughtered and their heads were searched for eyes by Byrgenwerth scholars). That massacre created the Hunter's Nightmare, which is a curse placed on the Workshop hunters (lead by Gehrman) by either Kos or the Orphan. Lady Maria (whose resemblance to the doll suggests Gehrman loved her) was also one of the hunters responsible for the massacre, but seemingly regretted doing so, since she threw her weapon (the Rakuyo) down into a well of the Fishing Hamlet, tried to ease the suffering of the patients the Church experimented on, and ultimately killed herself (considering the wounds on her corpse). It is thought that both Maria's death and Gehrman's lack of purpose (since he lost a leg during a hunt and became bound to a wheelchair) led him to make the pact with Moon Presence, since in the Hunter's Dream Maria's doll is alive and Gehrman could still continue to lead other hunters.

One thing that I find unfortunate about these games is that once you learn the patterns and how to respond to every move, bosses become trivial. However, a random fight would be far worse than that. Fantastic series Jack. It’s always an awe-inspiring journey when you’re watching someone who actually knows exactly what they’re doing in the game as if it’s their own thing.
    It’s very different from the games you usually play, again, very fun to watch.

    Alright, so here's some lore about the Fishing Hamlet and the DLC in general:
    So, the body of Kos, a great one washes up on the shores of the Fishing Hamlet, infested with parasites. We don't exactly know what killed Kos but we do know that it wasn't the Church Hunters.
    Anyways, the townsfolk come into contact with these parasites and start transforming into the fish people that you see in the game.
    Soon enough, the Healing Church hears about the discovery of the Great One in the hamlet, and so they do what they do best, and pillage the town, experiments on the townsfolk and stuff.
    Not only that, but they examine Kos' body and realize that she was pregnant. So, they decide to take the child back for experimentation (Orphan of Kos), killing it in the process.
    Now, overcome with guilt, Lady Maria curses the Hunters' actions and utters the line that we heard before entering the Hunter's nightmare.
    This curse is what leads to the Hunter's being 'cursed' and becoming too lustful for blood, leading them to the Hunter's Nightmare.
    It is also speculated that shortly after she committed suicide.
    Now, you may be wondering why we can't fight her and the Orphan and it's simple.
    This is a nightmare and it contains the consciousness of these people. Like Mergo was the host of the nightmare in the original game, the Orphan of Kos is the host of this Nightmare.
    That's why the Orphan cries when he's born, as he knows everything that's been done with him and that's also why he lashes out upon seeing you, thinking you killed Kos.
    Once you kill the Orphan, you set his consciousness and soul to rest and end its suffering.
    This is all that I remember by mind, so it may be somewhat incorrect, but if you want a full, in depth timeline, I recommend you watch videos about Bloodborne on a channel by the name of VaatiVidya.
    Thanks for reading and I hope you have a great day!

    • @utsavmishra7720
      @utsavmishra7720 Před 2 lety

      @@melonlegs4110 no, its not that gherman did that specifically. its only speculated that way because its said that you can do anything with the doll which i believe just implies using the doll as a tool to use blood echoes and grow stronger since they dont have that many tools left anymore. Plus i rather believe its just brain fluid since we see those doll abominations later in the game with all those eyes grown out. Gherman was living in regret of having caused this nightmare so he took it to his hands to suffer this much and set hunters free from this nightmare while he remains there sitting so the others don't have to go through what he has gone through.
      As far as goes for orphan, Kos was worshipped in the village because in return of that the great one would give them innumerable fish and squids in return as a token of their worship for her. The hunters went and investigated the entire thing while micolash was going mad knowing that rom was ascended into a great one by the blessings of kos. The villagers were killed by the hunters for investigation purposes since they were changing too granted by the insight they gained from the worship.
      "Atonement for the wretches... Lay the curse of blood upon them, and their children, and their children's children, for evermore. Each wretched birth will plunge each child into a lifetime of misery.
      Mercy for the poor, wizened child... Let the pungence of Kos cling, like a mother's devotion..."
      This is where Maria abandoned her work and threw her rakuyo down the well. The nightmare is nothing but a curse put upon them by kos, as when a great one dies it simply ascends to the cosmos. Plus its not unclear how kos died, the game itself implies that whenever a child of a great one is born then either the parent or the kid survives
      "Every Great One loses its child, and then yearns for a surrogate. This Cord granted Mensis audience with Mergo, but resulted in the stillbirth of their brains."

      @jordynozymandias374 Před 2 lety +1

      I would imagine the Orphan knows what the hunters did to the people of the Hamlet and as an extension of the wrath of Kos who is invoked by several characters, the Orphan is hostile to the player. Not so much that the Orphan thinks you killed Kos but recognizes you as being like the ones who destroyed the village.

    52:00 Actually a pretty good theory that I found was that it was _Marias_ Dream/Nightmare. Not just because she, along with Ludwig and Laurence, were the first Hunters to, for a lack of a better term, _access_ Kos but because you use her gravestone to come back to the Hunters Nightmare and we know from Micolash that you don't need to be alive to Host a Dream/Nightmare.

    • @GrahamChapman
      @GrahamChapman Před 2 lety

      This theory is further reinforced by the final confrontation with Gehrman being a nigh-on perfect representation of the Death card in the Major Arcana Tarot deck, while Lady Maria is a counterpart to Lord Yama/Enma, the judge of the dead in Buddhism who confronts the deceased with a mirror in which they are confronted with the sins of the past.
