    Take one thing at a time. First do the coolant leak, then the oil leak, then the power steering leak. Just keep the levels up. Some things you can do yourself and you can get used tires to last you a year or two. If you put $300 or $400 per month into it, in 3 or 4 months you'll be in good shape. Better than getting hooked on car payments for a year or two.

    Great video, and remember folks, get heater hose, auto part stores near me try to stock me with the much more expensive 'gates' brand fuel hose that's not intended for coolant and will break down and leak sooner than later, ask specifically for heater hose when you give them the sizes and lengths.

    Great video. I forgot about the bypass hose and will get one while the coolant is out. I have 145,000 miles on a 2001, will be replacing the spark plugs and coolant/heater hoses. I was concerned about the path those heater hoses follow, but after watching, i'm glad I don't need to rip apart too much. I'm also replacing the hood supports, very simple, small screwdriver and they pop right off giving you great access to the 3 plugs in the rear plus the heater hoses.

    Those smaller hoses are likely for the throttle body and EGR system. Those are quite small only being 1/4" to 5/16" ID and only several inches long or so. I'm having to replace every single one of them plus the heater hoses while I have the intake collector off (in order to replace the right side valve cover gasket). They do leak when they get old. Mine did. :) Good video by the way.

    I have a leak on my 1995 nissan maxima. I watched the video, it was very informing. I am trying to figure what my problem is. This is what I have diagnosed so far. The first time I noticed a problem while idling at a stop at night I saw smoke coming from my hood. So I kept driving instead of constant idling while I finish my delivery route.
    With my heat turned full blast. The next morning when I get into the daylight I check my coolant and add 1/4 gallon or less. I figure this will solve the problem.
    I let the car idle for a lil bit and I see no leaks of antifreeze. So I figure I was low on antifreeze. Later in the day when I return from a short trip to the store. During that time my heater was not on as I recall. When I parked I see antifreeze leaking from car so I investigate to find out the leak only occurs when the car warms up without the heat running. It seems to be causing a leak near the by pass hose area. My guess is to replace the thermostat because antifreeze is only flowing complete cycle when heater is turned on. What do you think the reason the leak is only sometimes a problem and I cant seem to find a bad hose. I tried some stop leak but it did not help. I also used a telescope mirror to look underside of the upper and by pass hose area.

    • @RobertDIY
      @RobertDIY Před 10 lety +1

      Saul Goodman
      If you find some bleeders let me know. I have never heard of any.
      What you can do to try to fill the system good with the first fill is disconnect the top radiator hose.
      Cars that have radiator caps typically fill good when you add the coolant through the radiator cap. The coolant reservoir is there to fill the motor the rest of the way in the event that the motor looses coolant, i.e. has air in the system.
      So, fill it with coolant the best you can after you replace the radiator or hose, then add coolant to the coolant reservoir. The next few days, check the coolant reservoir and top it off is it is below the full line.

    • @RobertDIY
      @RobertDIY Před 7 lety

      +thnkbg the only reason you would need to flush a cooling system is if it is contaminated with something, or the system is getting clogged because of oil intrusion. It is a good idea to replace the coolant every so often as recommended by the type of coolant that you use it. It is also good never to mix different types of coolant because it can turn acid and cause the fluid to eat away at the internal engine parts.

      The big thing is, if you have to take the car into a shop to keep it running, there will be a point that it will cost to much to keep. My thing is, you need to trust your car. If you don't feel comfortable driving it 500 miles, maybe you should consider getting something newer. Everyone has their breaking point.
