- I know I've been MIA, but I'm back and just wanted to update everyone and hopefully pass on a lesson that I've recently re-learned.
Have a great rest of the weekend and hopefully I will see you soon with some new content.
Well Said, My Friend. I was just as guilty of your message as others, maybe MORE so. When a technician makes the decision to open their own shop, there is usually a HEAVY financial commitment along with that decision. In order not to fail and possibly lose a life savings along with the thoughts and burdens of knowing the business also supports your employee's family there is A LOT of time and thought involved. As you stated, all of this takes away form quality family time, once I learned to delegate more of the responsibility to my top employees, I was able to spend more time with family.
It was GREAT seeing you and the others get a chance to showcase your skills at Vision last week.
Beautifully said. Couldn't agree more on the work life balance lesson. 👍
Work-life balance was a dirty word to me up until the past 6-8 months. It's something I've seen a lot of people in a lot of industries struggle with.
It's something we all need to stop and take stock of occasionally.
Words of wisdom from one of the smartest guys I know. Honored to know you.
Honored to know you brother. I wish I had listened to the older guys life advice a bit closer when I was younger.
All I can do now is just keep learning and helping those around me learn from my mistakes.
At the end of the day, we all need that support structure and those we care about or else it's all kind of a waste of time. At least in my opinion.
A victory with no one to celebrate with, is really a defeat.
yea joe....its it seems....well today how am I going to get my butt kicked ...its not like the 80s the best we can do is try to stay on top of information..and at the end of the day... have that feeling of I did good...
Bro, this video was/is inspiring! I’m super proud of you and everything you have accomplished. “We did the unfixable” is one of the best quotes I’ve heard. We are all human and sometimes it’s nice to know we are not alone.
Thank you brother. I've got alot on my mind right now, not exactly this but I wanted to be able to flip my rough times into something that can hopefully help others.
Expertly stated and incredibly timely. Was literally just having this conversation last night and this morning with my lady. Work life balance is something I've sucked at my whole life. I don't know why we're so bad in this industry about that. No doubt we all strive to learn and grow as much as possible, but it seems as a group we have a hard time drawing that line. Thanks for helping us all stay aware of of what's most important. Sorry to have missed your tech talk at Vision, but look forward to catching future talks and classes. Be well brother!
Amazing put. Look forward to your upcoming training. 👍👍
Thank you for the wise words Chris. Totally agree 👍
I'm just speaking from my own experiences and failings as a person Dylan.
I try to teach people from my mistakes, be it in life or work. That way they don't have to go through the same aggravation that I've gone through.
Hope all is well with you and your family.
I really appreciate you for being who you are. Stay safe Chris!
Absolutely spot on buddy, without that outside network of family & friends for support there is no point. Been there done that & all you end up doing is burning out, keep up the good work👍.
Exactly it my friend.
wow......so true! I have 23 years dealer and 10 independent its a battle uphill.... if you sleep your gone
Great comment. So important in today's world that we look after our mental health. And let's face it guys are rubbish at talking about feelings or admitting when they are struggling to cope. We'll talk crap for hours about cars or sports ect. but so many guys in the industry don't open up when we should.
Keep up the great work and spreading the good word!
Well said Kenny. I know I struggle with sharing certain things. There is usually at least one person we each feel super comfortable sharing with and sometimes we end up over burdening them.
Taking the leap of faith and reaching out to someone in our network will often surprise us as to the amount of support and understanding available. It may not be a quick fix but there is help and support available.
Especially in times of enforced isolation like we have now, it's important to take the time to.care for yourself and to reach out to those you may be worried about.
Couldn't make it to Vision. :( Would have loved to hear your Tech Talk. Can't wait for the video to get posted!
I appreciate it Tyler. Just waiting on permission from the Vision crew to post it.
Very wise words and food for thought from a very experienced operator. I've been a mine mechanical engineer for 30 years in Australia, absorbing other trades, certifications and training as I progressed my career. Now the manager of a mine engineering workshop, with staff from diesel, hydraulic and electrical engineers to precision fitters and turners, welders and fabricators, a real blend of cultures, personalities and skills. From the first year 18 year old apprentices to the 60 year veterans, I promote a workplace of harmony, and a workplace where communication between old and young is vital for both to grow and move forward. Nothing is too hard, no question too stupid, everybody is to enjoy coming to work and receive praise and satification. Our rosters is usually 4 weeks on / 1 week off but are flexible to accommodate all. If a staff member has a family emergency that requires a priority evacuation to home, a flight is arranged or many times, my personal vehicle has been commandeered. I don't care, just as long as the person arrives home safely to loved ones. Their time away is covered and I stay in contact, offering both assistance from myself, other staff in the area on R&R, or from the company. No one is left to fend for themselves. I have an open door policy where any staff member can speak to me in complete confidence, either to vent, ask for advice or help or a shoulder to cry on. Admittingly, the work performed can be exhausting, unthankfull, and frustrating, and the time away from loved ones can be very difficult, but most of the staff here have very independent and understanding partners whom really are the rock in our lives. But, everyone talks, and this is a great stress reliever. Company policies denounce dangerous actions within the workplace but a basketball hoop recently appeared and alliances have formed into teams, so all is good at smoko and lunch. And a t the end of the day in camp, we all eat, have a few drinks and laughs together, and I just casually wonder around to each person's room, just for a very casual talk. This keeps me satisfied. Everyone talks to their families at night and we meet at breakfast for another day and my morning preach of 'work safe and communicate'. Works for me. I might question my sanity occasionally but I love the work, environment and people i work with. They are extended family. Long rant ? Absolutely, but I know where your coming from. Family is always first. Look after yourself bro. 👍👍🇦🇺
You are an amazing example of building up the support structure that we all need.
I don't want to cheapen anything you've said by trying to elaborate. I'll let your message stand on it's own because it's a lesson to us; we should strive for this same level in our personal and professional lives.
Awesome stuff mate big thumbs up 👍 hope all is well
Much appreciated Allan. All is getting better, bit of a rough road but we all soldier through with the help of those around us, those we care about, and those that care about us. We are all in it together mate.
I just wanted to share in hope of being able to save someone else a bit of a headache and struggle.
Science Of Diagnostics thank you for putting this video up I 100% understand about getting so focused on work and jobs and not even noticing the weather . Only wish I lived in USA 🇺🇸 so I could drop in with a case of beer 🍺 head up and power on mate .
You've made a good point that everyone needs "balance"in their life. In my career I worked 7 days out of State and 7 days home. It's a good think my wife is self-sufficient. If you love you job that helps a lot. I like going to training events for the social aspect. Since I'm retired I can do that now. I love to learn new things but I've really enjoyed watching young guys like you dig in and pick up the torch and carry on with the job at hand. I've enjoyed getting to know you better on the hangouts app and though CZcams. Great video.
Wyatt, balance is exactly it. It's a word that many people have tried to get me to understand over the years.
As I get older, I finally have understood it more and more. Thanks to all the people in the industry and my life, including yourself, I'm learning to be better all around, both in and out of work.
Some great things said ...you and many that I have had the pleasure of meeting in person are a large help to me.
We all have our hardships and struggles brother.
That's why we need that support structure and reason to keep moving onwards and upwards. We are all in it together, just a bunch of like minded people lending a hand or a shoulder when it's needed.
Hay mate hope your doing well
Hanging in there mate, taking it one day at a time.
I hope all is well for you too.
Science Of Diagnostics I’m doing ok . Recovering from a shoulder reconstruction this 40 year old body is just worn out lol 😝. Good to see you hanging in there. Head up and power on
Can you give me advice on my gator with a diesel yamnar engine?
I was never a car guy but I done it 40 years.
It's defintely something people in every industry struggle with brother. I've worked landscaping, towing, HVAC, HD trucks, off-road equipment, and automotive. It's the same everywhere.
I've had to re-learn the lesson multiple times.
Excellent brief segment! 1st parts to this video were intriguing and thought provoking, the 2nd half is great to hear, regarding Vision. We didn't get to talk about many of the details when I stopped by the other day.
Looking forward to these classes you're putting together! Big hugs! 😁😊🤗🤗
Yes, you showed up shortly after the bourbon did 😬.
You better be there for the classes. You have an open seat next to Brandon and Jim 😬
@@ScienceOfDiagnostics oh heck yes!! Let me know! 😁😄
