Hint: To get the sand out of live clams: Rinse them off, then put them in a bucket of water that has cornstarch dissolved in it (5gal water 1/2c starch) for about an hour. The clams will spit the sand out, and suck up the starch.

Sorry. I use corn meal. Not corn starch.
Corn STARCH? Never heard of that before. Only ever used corn meal.
Even leaving them in salt water for 4hrs will spit most of the sand but 1-2 days in a cold-ish area (not in direct sun light) then remove water and by then they would have spat all the sand we get the same kind of clams in new zealand and we do this to all our sand clams works every time
Mr Fowler, my 7 year old and myself watch everything you produce. Frome alone to now we have watched everything. We even bought a few ocularis and scout lt's. My boy can blow the eye out from a crow at 30 yards. All because of your channel. Simple shot has been awesome in inventory and even better with postage. We live in South Africa. In a rural, coastal area. Living off the land like this is very possible for us here. We can dive for crayfish, hunt the rocks for mussels, go fishing, hunt wild animals and cooking things over open fires is something even some of the rich people do, for social events 😊 I learnt how to build a fire when I was barely out of diapers. I can believe it. Fowler's video's are always so entertaining and informative that time just seems to whiz by. The long ones don't ever seem to be as long as they are and the short ones never seem to be as long as you want them to be.

About around 1:04:50 when you were putting rocks for the chimney, the music started to almost make me cry, it reminded me of like a memory book type music, and I lost my grandpa in September (2021) but your videos brighten me up most of the time so keep it up🙏👍

Haha the wooded beadsmen!!! I've watched several of his videos over the years and just recently discovered yours. Great job fellas. I'm in upstate ny and grew up in the adirondacks. My father taught me survival ways due to the fact that we were very poor and sometimes had to do what we had to do. Nice to see people still doing the real skills.

It's always a steak salad 🤣🤣🤣. Always thought cattails tasted like a light radish. And we paid below market value for a meal of lobster corn on the cob and something else in cape Elizabeth Maine three year ago for about that size still ran us about $80 for two people. My wife and I. Was one beautiful honeymoon.

I love catching and cooking. I know you guys do it all the time, but my dad started me doing foraging with him, all of us, as a family, almost 50 years ago. Hunting, fishing, foraging...

Weird, as a resident of maine, it would take me over 5k in licences plus years of waiting lists to pull this off. Add that to the local ordnance every town has. Lobstermen that cut lines, clam cops.. nicely done though.
No doubt! You can actually buy the recreational license for lobster, and dig what? A peck for yourself in your own town. But lobstermen are territorial af. They think they own the water! Everyone should have access to the available resources here!

Remember next time to save your clam broth to swish the grit out of your clams before you eat them. Then sip the broth as best as you can, be careful of the grit in the bottom. Glad you cook those clams in seawater...that's the best!

Don't you just love living in Maine? I know I do.. A man has everything he wants all in one spot hunting,fishing amazing scenery,beautiful lakes,snow,atv trails, and back woods living. Love being able to open the door, take a leak, and put anything I want on my land and live off it..

Do you own research and dont trust what youtubers say is the best advice to give. I was in the woods and found some mushrooms that looked like some kind that i saw in this one guys video. I almost ate it but that little voice in me said "nooooooo" and thankfully i didn't because when i got back to where my phone worked, i looked up the mushroom and it turned out to be poisonous. This was an awesome video though and i wanna go to Maine so bad so i can camp and have some lobster 😋 it's so beautiful up there. Thanks for taking the time to make this great video!
@58:50 that's how i mostly shoot slingshot for 7-8 years now. Only difference between you and me is you hit the targets and i mostly go left, right, above and under the target :p

FYI, Chris Mccandless didn't actually die because he misread his book on edible plants and ate the wrong wild potato seeds. There was evidence that came out later through lab analysis that there must have been a fungus or something growing on the seeds themselves that caused him to get sick. Krakauer talks about this in the later editions of Into the wild.

Another tip for clamming....don’t forget to move the sand back and cover the holes. Helps to create a more sustainable food cycle for their buddies to keep using and others to keeping clamming after you. Great vid thanks guys!

Tiny advice ... Wild meat should be boiled for 2 -3 hrs then you can braai it for a half an hour. That is the gold nugget.

Good video. Y'all work together so well. It's a nifty idea if you're talking to a few people, to sustain themselves in a survival setting. But it becomes increasingly impossible when many people are trying to sustain themselves. (However, I'm subscribed and thoroughly enjoy your videos!)
