Man, I'm so glad I came across this video. I'm on my second SmallRig Mini Follow Focus from 2 different stores and no one knew how to swap the gear to the other side. I did get it set up correctly but I came across what you said about the single rod set up, it slips like crazy. I was going to send it back but for the heck of it I tried that belt/tread wrapped around my focus ring and it works amazingly! Thanks for this video!
Wasn't expecting that hard Dre like music at the intro :P
Thank you for making this video! 🤘😊
Great lighting on this video Justin!!! Can you make a video on how you lit youself. Thanks
thanks! You might be able to figure it out if you look closely at that GoPro B cam footage! ;)
Great Job!!!
Thanks for the real review
I have it and love it. But there is 2 problems.
1. Mine is making little noises when I’m focusing.
2. The stops are not working well for me.
But it still a really good choices, and I recommend it!l
Great review!
Could you mount it on the right of a cage with the nato rail and rod?
Looks like the park by my casa in Glendale!
do you recommend this smallrig follow focus for batis lenses? (with fly by wire)
Hey, does the turn direction really reverse when putting the gear on the other side??? I need this feature because i have lenses that turn focus differently and i cant seem to find info about this for the f40 except by turning the while thing upside down.
I dont remember
Purchased.
👀🤙🏼
Hi Justin, do the Focus Speed Crank (and the follow focus) have a Safty-lock that prevents the speed crank from falling ?
depends on the crank you purchase. the one i have is from Fotga, it has a little quick release knob where it inserts into the focus wheel
this one right here: amzn.to/3jPlU9M
@@JustinPhillip Thanks
God, I loved toy machine
Hey Justin! Would you mind telling which 15mm rods you're using at around 2:45?
they're from 8SINN bhpho.to/2VeFiCG
Were you not happy with the fotga dp500iii ? Also, do anybody here know the main difference between dp500iii and its bigger brother jtz dp30?
no i still have the dp500mkiii was just checking this one out is all. it was much too small for me
@@JustinPhillip which one was to small for you bro? :D
@@seifenhasedreizehn4077 the SMALLrig
Would this work with dry erase markers as well?
yeah, for marking?
How does it compare to the the Tilta version?
Very similar. The Tilta is smoother so better for long focus throw lenses like cinema lenses while the Smallrig is a bit stiffer so better for video lenses with a shorter throw. Other than that they're very similar indeed. Only the Smallrig comes with the optional to use rail attachment.
@@Fedorevsky Thanks! good to know

Can you explain what happened to the Nucleus motor? How did it fail?
sometimes all you need is Low Torque, is all i meant. Also, there a lot of issues with the p-tap cable that Tilta includes pulls too much power, so i think hopefully this has been fixed in FW update. So im on a job now dealing with these issues, had to special order a 7pin to 7pin Lemo to update FW on actual motor. So we will see. No shops here in LA had it in stock
@@JustinPhillip If you could make a video on this sounds pretty important.
Are you able to remove the hard stops?
Yes
Thanks, the top mount looks a little weird/awkward but like you said "physics". I think I'll try it out that way when I start building my Lumix S5 setup. Thanks again, Paul @ czcams.com/channels/dq2jaxcmgyX0AERivIB2Tw.html
Actors miss their marks. I never ever use hard stops. They are usually completely useless. So the important thing for me is that the gear needs to stay in place. How problematic do you feel the mono 15mm rod clamp situation is ?
I've never been a fan of the single rail clamp follow focus units
of course the nucleus Nano failed that thing is a waste of money
not talking about the nano, the Nucleus M
it is not worth the price: meanwhile 100 euro /USD for a small cnc-machined piece ...
