songs are diverse and no two are alike. I think Harry's live performances are where he shines. Unlike many today he
performs live with no lip syncing, which I appreciate because I have no faith in a singer if they can't do it live. 🐾⚓🐾
Carolyn Castle I agree. And the fact that he uses REAL instruments in the recordings is a breath of fresh air, compared to all of the electronic music being put out now. Not to mention his band is always there during live performances, which is rare to see now too.

Yeah, I haven't watched the video you're referencing but they're so way off lmao. The song was written in September 2017. Then he hated it, abandoned it for a year, and got back to it in 2018, when he finished it. It was initially a promo single. It came out about a month before the album did. He dropped it on a Saturday and performed it on SNL at the same time (one of the best live performances of it because it includes a brass section as well, which he didn't have for the others). This was in November. The song wasn't sent to radio and didn't get a single treatment at all. The lead single of the album was Adore You (the first single was Lights Up, but it wasn't a single in America, Latin America or Europe, just the UK and Australia).
Watermelon Sugar just happened to be liked by a lot of people and fans begged for it to be a single. The label simply obliged. It was 100% not put haphazardly together or anything of the sort. It's purposefully repetitive. Harry poked fun at it, even. The music video was shot in January.

FYI Timing of writing of FineLine album: began soon after end of HS1 tour, mid aug 2018 thorough spring of 2019 and was complete enough by June 2019 to share with Stevie Nicks. However this song was written 2 and 3/4 years ago, during the early part of HS1 tour, in Nashville, 9/2017, so still summer there and only a few months after he began seeing Camille Rowe. Harry explained, "Its kinda about like that initial... euphoria ...when you start seeing someone, you start sleeping with someone...and you have that kinda excitement about em," during the NPR Tiny Desk concert.
Harry could sing anything and we would love it. It's in the voice. Seriously.

“Yummy”.... lol, Freud certainly knew about the pre-conscious. There are 3 yummy words because the real star here isn’t even Harry Styles but the meaning of the whole song. He doesn’t really do poppy songs. The important stuff is in the meaning of the song and why it is what it is 😋
He meant the beat that goes all around the song! Justin didn't add any extra instrument for the feeling that was it! But it was good!

What’s funny is that Harry said that this song took him longer to write than any other has taken him. He talked about it in his Tiny Desk concert. He said that they liked it, then hated it for a while, then it kept coming back into the mix and they worked on it. Everybody thinks he’s talking about the lyrics which aren’t that complicated, but it’s obvious about the arrangement. Like you said, the song keeps building on itself and I love the instrumentation in this song so much.
This live version isn’t my favorite. That whole Jingle Bell Ball set was weird to me with him being so much front and center and his band way back in the background. I think it gave a more disjointed feeling to the performances.
