In central Alabama, I discovered that Magic City Plywood in Birmingham carries it in 5x5 sheets. You’ll have to have a big enough truck/trailer or portable saw to break down the sheets- they won’t cut to order.
M & M Lumber in Tulsa Oklahoma. 1/2" was around $25 a sheet last I checked. Didn't ask about 3/4" but I wouldn't think much more.
we have 3 large lumberyards in area plus a Rockler. I haven't bought as yet but as I have better things to build I will buy if it will really help out. I'm thinking if I buy top grade lumber I would be much more careful about what I build no matter what it is. Would like to see what you think
I typically do a web search for people who provide selections of hardwoods in the area. If the provide hardwood they also usually have some verities of plywood that have the same Cabrera as the hardwood. And most also carry Baltic Birch ply as well. I live in Raleigh NC and when I search for Hardwood lumber in North Carolina it pops up three places. I have purchased from all three. Capitol Lumber in Raleigh. The Hardwood Store in Gibsonville NC and Steve H Wall lumber in Mayoden NC. Capitol is the highest but also the closest go figure.
In my local Home Depot in the east end of Toronto, Canada they have 2x4' sheets of 'Russian Birch' - it really looks almost exactly like what I see others referring to as 'Baltic Birch' plywood. Damn expensive - 50.00 CAD for a 2'x4' 3/4 thickness sheet.
In Columbia, SC I get it from Shuman-Owens. They carry 5x5 sheets of 1/2" ($49) and 3/4".
same here .. it was a little bit difficult to find it but i went to one of medium size furniture manufacturer asking him where to buy it and he was welcoming to sell me as much as i want without giving me the name of supplier. am sure that i paid a little bit more but the difference wasn't that much between the low grade ones from china and Indonesia and Baltic birch from Russia
i ended up paying around $40 for a 4X8 sheet where the low grade ones were around $25-30
that solved my problem and hope it will help others
by the way i live in Dubai
Being from South Wales in the UK I haven't seen any as yet, but I'm going to try a woodyard soon. If I find some I'll leave a message.
Menards the Home improvement store carries it in stock. They also sell promo boards slightly under 1/2"×2'×2' for 1.99 at times. Great for smaller projects.
In Houston Texas I go to 1 of 2 place near me.
Houston Hardwoods or brazos forest products.
I buy Baltic birch plywood from a store in Grand Rapids MI called Woodcraft. It is 5 minuets from the office and someone at the office recommended the store to me.
Here in Fairfax, VA - homedepot carries it in 2x4 foot pieces, sometimes 4x4. Desired thickness can be difficult to find - it's usually 1/2 or 3/4. Years ago (around 15 years), HD used to carry "real" baltic birch in 5'x9' panels, after a few years of low sales (most likely because that was bigger than even full size pickup truck beds), they started carrying 4x8 but now it's a bit of hit-or-miss process to find anything there. They do carry 1/4 in. x 4 ft. x 8 ft. called "PureBond Birch Plywood" which appears to be decent cabinet grade, but any other size most likely would be special order.
Thanks for the info! 😄
I live in Forney, TX and I get it at Dakota Premium Hardwood 641 W Mockingbird Ln, Dallas, TX ...
I get them from my local Rockler store. I found the store by searching online for "Baltic Birch Plywood" after being disappointed that Home centers didn't carry any.
Here in Ontario, Canada Home Depot sells it in 1/2 sheets. Or there is a specialty wood store about 1 hour from my place that sells it along with all kinds of other hard to get lumber. Monaghan Lumber in Peterborough Ontario.
Not available at all in my area, NL, Canada, and doesn’t seem to be available in many places east of Ontario. Can’t buy it online from the usual US suppliers , and besides being expensive, shipping is even costlier.
Detroit, MI area -> Menards (1/4", 1/2", 3/4") or Woodcraft (1/2", 3/4", 1/4")
Montreal, Canada area -> Langevin Forest (also ships to almost anywhere in Canada)
If you live close to Canada, you can order wood from Langevin Forest and bring back up to $200 worth to the states, or stay 48 hours and bring up to $800 back (every 30 days).
I have been able to get my local lumber yard to order whatever I'm looking for. Otherwise Root River Hardwoods, Rockler and Woodcraft stock it.
Thankyou for this. So many videos use this material. Cant get much of it in the local UK DIY stores. Will read the comments with interest.
EcoWomble I was thinking the same thing.
Mark Duggan and other UK viewers: None of the UK ‘sheds’ such as B&Q can supply it, nor can any of the local timber or builders merchants in my area (south lakeland). Its available in sheets up to 8’ x 4’ from specialist on-line stockists elsewhere in the UK and in smaller sizes on eBay uk but its phenomenally expensive - far too expensive for me.
My local timber merchant (Jacksons) told me they used to offer it but sold very little because of the price so stopped. They do stock Malaysian and Russian ply in a good range if thicknesses in 8’ x 4’ sheet sizes at prices much less than Baltic Birch. After talking with them and examining both types in some detail I bought a sheet of Malaysian ply and am very pleased with it. It has two very good appearance very uniform faces, one being completely free of blemishes, the other having only minor grain shading. Its very flat and is almost entirely free of internal voids with no overlapping of the internal leaves, all leaves being thicker than cheap ply. Its very suitable for furniture making. The Russian ply has more voids and defects and is only a little cheaper.
I’m very pleased with the Malaysian ply, its only weakness being that the wood is a bit softer than Baltic Birch so it needs more careful handling to prevent damage to cut edges.
I suggest you try it and see what you think.
Thanks I'll have a look.
When I lived in Winston Salem North Carolina I was actually surprised that Home Depot carried Baltic birch plywood, BUT they also carried a couple types of cabinet quality plywood types as well, one of which was 3/4" red oak and the other was some type of maple!!! BUT sadly here in New York they only carry sanded pine at my local store and then even that is insanely expensive at times!!
One option is to buy it online. I have no idea what the shipping costs are like, but the fact that there actually *are* places that sell it online makes me think it might not be *too* bad.
I Googled hardwood in my city then called. I also called 2 cabinet shops and asked them where they got their wood locally
I just found out my local Home Depot can special order 1/4" 5x5' sheets of it. They said other stores should be able to order it too. Just under $30 after tax. No idea what quality it will be though, which is why I haven't gone ahead with the order just yet. Was hoping to find a place that actually stocks it so I can see before I buy, but no luck so far...
Good luck with that!
How about in the UK... do you have any UK viewers who buy and use Baltic Birch , i have looked and it id about £125 per sheet for 18mm (3/4"). Unless you are a high end cabinet maker i don't think "normal DIYers in the UK have ever used this fabulous product... or am i just looking in the wrong places.. Cheers Paul
Spellman hardwoods. Great on hand selection and can order anything.
Optimera in Sweden can get it from their supplier Sveza. Optimera has stores all ovet the country.
Me again Margaret,I`ve read some of the comments & realize there is some do not know what this stuff is. I have asked at the box stores & they don`t have any idea what I`m talking about
If anyone knows a good place to get wood in the Las Vegas, NV area I would appreciate it. I am having no good luck in the big box stores for wood.
Most building suppliers in my area don't carry it. I'm in Kansas city and the only place I know to source it from is liberty hardwoods, also the only hardwood supplier I can find to sell me common hardwoods rough. On a side note switching to rough lumber and milling it myself has saved me over 30% on my materials and improved the quality of my work immensely.
That's pretty cool! I just don't have room for a planer and a jointer, or I'd be right there with you. 😄
@@TheNewbieWoodworker do you have a shop tour video? I have a wen benchtop 8" jointer and craftsman lunchbox planer, great results. Working in a small basement myself. Definitely need to build some kind of flip top system to have my planer and jointer packed into 1 unit. Today I'm building a flip down workbench about 3x6 feet that can tuck away against the wall easily.
@@XxStratAttackxX No I don't. I agree with the need to build a flip-top bench - that might gain me some room.
I get bigger pieces at Woodcraft or a local lumber store. Michael's craft store does carry it as well in sizes from 1/8" up to 3/4" mostly in 12"x12" squares
Michael's, huh? My wife loves that store! :)
Owl Hardwood in Des Plaines, Lombard, or Tinley Park, IL. Des Plaines is the mother ship.
Owl Hardwood in Des Plaines. (Both locations rock). Got tip from our estimator at work.
Hey Chicago!
I buy it from Menards (big box store). They stock 1/2". I have 1/4" and 3/4" shipped to my lical store. Unlike Woodcraft, Menards sells it in 4x8 sheets. A 4x8x3/4 sheet is about $75.
Minnesotan aayyyy? I frequent Menard's too neighbor. Didn't know you could order different thickness. I usually just pick up 1/4 and 1/2 in other materials like hardboard. They carry 3/4 in the quality stuff here.
Where do you live?
How is the quality of the Menard's Baltic Birch? I see videos where they say that some suppliers sell inferior Baltic Birch which contains voids.
@@finhunter I haven't gotten any from Menards, but I *have* gotten bad BB before, and I learned my lesson. Just look at the edges to see if there are voids, and look at the faces to make sure that the patches don't look like crap. And of course check for warping. Bring gloves so you don't get splinters. 😛
Local hardwood dealer that sells mostly rough lumber and some high end plywood.
In Dover Oh. I buy at Keim lumber or Holmes Lumber.
So far, I haven’t. My “local” (40 minutes away) Menards has “Natural Birch”, which I plan to try out in an upcoming project or two. It has fewer layers, but looks pretty good anyway. Maybe not the ultimate though. EDIT: I just checked again and they have 11-ply “Classic Birch” as well, which isn’t sanded but might still be good at least for shop projects
Menards does let you special order Baltic Birch, but I feel like it’s not worth the price ($78 for a full 3/4” sheet)
I've tried things like "natural Birch" and it's just not the same. But good luck!
I live in Belgium and my brother works at a lumber yard. That's where I get my "good" plywood.
A & G lumber or Anderson plywood both in Culver City
Ameca lumber in central Florida 38.00 for 4X8 sheet
Dunn Lumber and Crosscut Hardwoods in Seattle, Washington.
Ganahls also carries 5x5 sheets of BB/BB rated Baltic Birch. Good prices too. $31.49 for 3/4".
Thanks for the info!
In Maine, Hammond Lumber can order it.
Austin Hardwoods in Santa Ana has it in 5x5 and 4x8 sheets. Comparable prices to Reel Lumber.
Thanks for the info!
In the Milwaukee area, Bliffert Lumber carries it. In the Greenbay area, Bayridge Plywood and Supply. In Appleton, WI, Woodcraft but they do not carry full sheets.
👍
What sizes does Bliffert carry?
@@saavedr0333 FYI, CZcams may or may not let him know you posted a reply, so if you don't hear back from him, that's why. 🙄
saavedr 03 they have full sheets 5 x 5 in most thicknesses. They have several stores so one should call them to locate which store has what is wanted.
I get mine from Klingspor's Woodworking Shop. It is a chain that has a location near to me.
And Where is that?
Robert Bury & Company is a lumber wholesaler located across Canada, I setup account at local office in MONCTON NB or you can have your retailer order from them for you
Dan, Did you ever find a source? I live in south Orange County, CA and looking for a good source.
I love Reel Lumber in Anaheim, but that's probably a drive for you. I'm sure you've got some good sources in your area - find a contractor in your neck of the woods and ask them where they go.

Anyone know a place in central Jersey that I can get it from?
are you still looking. there are some places near SJ
I actually get half sheets from Home Depot but it's crazy expensive
Woodcraft in Harrisburg, Pa.
I am looking for a decent wood supplier in Northeast PA, somewhere around the Scranton - Wilkes-Barre area that would carry Baltic Birch plywood
My suggestion is to talk to a contractor in your area and ask them. You'll get a good answer pretty quickly, that way. If you're not sure how to find a contractor, look around for a house where they're obviously getting some work done, and ask there. Another place to find contractors is at Home Depot, in their check-out area for "professionals" or whatever it's called.
I live in DFW area in TX. I buy it at Plywood Company 4301 N Sylvania Ave, Fort Worth, TX 76137
Hell Yeah, Michael! Plywood Company of Fort Worth- an indoor football field with every type of plywood you can imagine- Great prices, good people and that warehouse is so clean you could lick the floor- would never go anywhere else!
I buy it from Rockler, online.
They frequently have 40% off sales with free shipping.
Small pieces only.
Thanks, good to know. I was in my local Rockler store the other day and saw some of their BB stock on sale for a pretty reasonable price. So I guess you just have to hit them at the right time. Thanks for the comment!
@@TheNewbieWoodworker I signed up for their newsletter and email alerts for sales. I buy the wood online and it ships directly to my home - shipping is free. Very convenient.
@@skippylippy547 I read that you said it shipped free, in your previous reply, but I didn't really think about it because I have a Rockler store about 20 minutes away. I'm lazy enough that I kind of like that idea of having it shipped to my door! And I get all the Rockler newsletters and emails and stuff. Love it.
Owl Lumber, Lombard, IL!
Best in the business.
I had to find a 4x10 sheet of red oak plywood for a bow window I was rehabbing about 20 years ago. They were the only store to have it , and it was perfect. A bit pricey, but try to find a 4x10 sheet of plywood anywhere else.
According to their website, Lows and Home Depot both carry it in stock.
My local Home Depots don't carry it, and the prices they show online to have it delivered to the store are WAY too expensive.
My understanding is that both Lowe's and Home Depot carry BIRCH plywood. This is not the same as Baltic Birch. What's the difference? Birch (or some other hardwood such as Oak or Maple to make up the vaneer) plywood uses birch on the OUTSIDE layers only, and the wood making up the middle layers is something else entirely. Poplar makes up the plywood core, according to the video on Home Depot's website. ALL layers of baltic birch, on the other hand, are made from layers of birch harwood, which is why it's more expensive. This is usually imported from other countries (Russia is the most common, I think). Hence, the "Baltic" in the name, because it typically comes from Baltic countries. There's your plywood trivia for the day. :-)
Timber Woodworking in Mesa, AA has it in full sheets, 60 x 60 or half sheets, 30 x 60.
Hardware Specialities in Anchorage, AK
Just went through all the comments and other than the BB at Immeca in Miami which I highly doubt there is nothing in Florida. I live in west palm beach and I have a horrible time trying to find true hardwood plywood. If anyone knows a place, PLEASE let me know. I've been to places in Miami, wpb, jupiter and NOTHING! Thank you for this video btw!
It blows my mind that you can't find a place - I feel your pain! Have you asked any contractors or construction workers if they know of any places? If you see someone getting a house remodelled or something like that, stop by and ask the contractor. Good luck!
I use the Columbia Forest Purebond products at Home Depot. I live in the Houston, TX area and most of the stores usually have plenty of both the Birch and Maple on the shelf. You can also order a long list of other wood types.
Russell's Reck Room give Houston Hardwoods a call. They have always been cheaper than Lowe's or HD. They also have several layer counts to choose from.
Thank you! I will. My business is literally next door to Dakota Hardwoods, I purchased my Sawstop from them but have never talked to them about buying Plywood. Houston Hardwoods is just up 290 from me so I will definitely need to stop by. Thanks again.
I really would like to buy it online, but I can't justify paying 50% more for shipping costs.
Yeah, I agree. I hope you can find something close by. If not, perhaps a road trip? 😄
In western Canada you can find it at Windsor Plywood. The name of the store said it all.
Looking forward to your video explaining what makes it so popular on CZcams. I would also love to hear why it is only available in odd sizes, rather than the standard 4x8 sheets. Thanks.
Somehow I missed your comment - CZcams doesn't always notify me when people comment. Sorry! Here's a good start: www.woodworkerssource.com/blog/woodworking-101/tips-tricks/your-ultimate-guide-to-baltic-birch-plywood-why-its-better-when-to-use-it/
You actually can find it in 4x8, at some stores. But 5x5 is most common, and I understand it has something to do with the fact the wood is produced overseas, and the metric system.
You are correct has everything to do with overseas however they are now starting to produce more for the western world (us)
I buy it from wurth wood group in Charlotte,NC
Do they carry prefinished plywood? That's one thing I can't find in Columbia.
Rich Wachtel they have prefinished and all other kinds it's pretty amazing, the hours are more geared to selling to cabinet shops. Check.out the website wurthwoodgroup.com

No joy here in Tupelo, MS. I've called all around and nobody with whom I've talked has it or even knows where to get it. I should talk with cabinetmakers. Now, here's the thing -- Wouldn't you think that, since this is the birthplace of King Elvis Presley, all the supply stores woud carry the best of the best? Harumph!
I should go poke the guys at Tupelo Hardware (where Elvis' mom bought him that guitar, when Elvis wanted a BB gun) to start carrying Baltic Birch. Tupelo Hardware is a genuine old-time hardware store, with tall ladders reaching up into cavernous compartments for that one screw, nut, or bolt that you're missing for your project. Elvis would be so proud to find Baltic Birth right here in his hometown, wouldn't he?
(By the way, don't believe the myths that Elvis has died. Shoot, on just about any given day, you can see 6 or 8 of him roaming the streets of Tupelo -- and in full costume, to boot!)
Very funny! Thanks for the comment. And yes, I would definitely recommend talking with cabinetmakers.
Anyone in southeast Washington state? HD and Lowe’s don’t have it around here
You might try asking a contractor in your area. They would know.
@@TheNewbieWoodworker Hello! I am a supplier of Baltic Birch plywood (Russia). Please contact me: saloff@bk.ru I want to discuss with you some business. Aleksi Saloff
In Miami, Fl Inmeca 4x8 3/4" birch $30
I'm guessing that's not Baltic birch, but if it is, buy their whole inventory! 😄
I also had my doubts, when inside the warehouse to check it and if it's not baltic birch is very, very close, and extremely smooth finish on both sides.
Even ask a couple times to make sure the price is right.
Perhaps since Miami is a port it comes straight from the ship to their warehouse.
Allied plywood and lumber; Nederland TX. Recommended by friend who has been cabinet makers for 45 years.
David Davis do they carry 3/4" in 5x5 and or 4x8 sheets??
The most common is 5x5. I'm lucky that the store near me has it in 4x8 sheets, which I have them cut down to three sheets of 32" x 48".
I can get 5x5 in 1/2" from Acadian Plywood in Rose City Texas, I was just wondering if Allied in Nederland, TX had 3/4" in either 5x5 or 4x8. Otherwise I have to drive all the way to Houston (110mi) for 3/4".
Went by allied today, they don't carry Baltic birch.

Forest Plywood in artesia 130 5' x 5' 3mm B/BB plywood. I did Reel Lumber at one point and got poor quality wood.
Funny - I tried Forest Plywood once and got poor quality wood. Swore I would never go back to them. So now I wonder if it's not fair to judge based one one experience?
As a former lumber yard employee , you can’t even judge based on 100 experiences . It’s all based on chance , my friend . But , (mostly) how much it rained at the lumber yard and / or the lumber’s journey to the lumber yard before you showed up there to buy it . More than half of it is not properly protected from weather in transport . That’s an immeasurable variable . Your best bet would be to hand pick the lumber yourself instead of depending on an employee to care and be willing to leave empty handed because odds are there’s nothing worth buying there that day . Lumber was gorgeous for about a week every month . I can’t remember if that was the beginning , middle , or end of the month . Good luck , though !

Dave Satosky a store called Woodcraft. I know there is one in Allentown, Downingtown, Harrisburg, Canonsburg and Garnet Valley
Where in Pa are you? I’m in Chambersburg and I am looking for a good place to buy lumber besides Lowe’s
I work for Bemenn Wood Products out of Ephrata, We have most domestic woods on hand.
Dave Satosky I’m happy that you now understand the answer to your initial question. The other thing is that a lot of lumber companies sell wood online, so geographical location isn’t necessarily a limitation.
Maybe you could have lead with that instead of questioning the question.

Rockler and Home Depot
is the rockler plywood a good deal? Home depot plywood is pretty affordable compared to other spots, but it isn't the best
@@AJ-iu6nw It's hard to say. When Rockler has sales, it's not too bad. But they only seem to have smaller sizes.
Just an FYI. Baltic birch plywood only comes in 5'x5' sheets (or 2.5'x5'). If it's 4x8 it's not true Baltic birch. Just sayin'. ☺
Not sure where you got that from, but it's wrong. I've definitely bought it in 4x8 panels, many times. And it most certainly is Baltic Birch plywood - once you've used Baltic Birch plywood, nothing else compares. :) Even Menards has it in 4x8. www.menards.com/main/building-materials/panel-products/specialty-panels/hardwood-panels/3-4-x-4-x-8-baltic-birch-plywood/p-1444441907409.htm
Hmm... here in Ontario Canada it only comes in 5x5 sheets. How interesting. We can buy 4x8 sheets of birch plywood that is pretty good quality, but it's not the same as Baltic birch.
Now that I think about it, when I first started buying it a while back, I only found it in 5x5. It hasn't been until maybe the last year that I've seen it in 4x8. At the time I just figured 5x5 was all the stores around me carried - it never dawned on me it might not come in other sizes. So now I wonder if it being available in 4x8 is a new thing? Interesting!
So it seems. I did some research and it has only been available in 4x8 sheets for the last couple of years. It's hard to find in my area and usually has to be special ordered, and it's very expensive. I wish I could get some for the price you pay. 😦
