The only reason he survived was because of the Prussophile Peter III of Russia - Prussia owes its existence to him. Because at this point, Berlin had already been sacked, Frederick was scraping the bottom of the barrel when it came to enlisting manpower, and the guy was going to cede east Prussia to Russia in return for peace.
Maybe not Prussia is part of the reason Germany is thought of as a techno powerhouse, hell these folks had a bolt action rifle (albeit a single shot one) as early as 1864 iirc (when even modern states like the US still used percussion cap weapons)
