I have made one attempt with a doublet and it was also a made solely from speaker wire connected to a Xeigu 6100 running 5 watts on the internal battery. I was up a hill during the grey-line and I had the doublet hoisted on a 6 meter SOATBeams Tactical mini. Reception was great but getting heard was difficult. That said I did make one QSO between my location in NZ and Italy. Fluke? I'm not sure. I must get it out and play with it again.

Very interesting, thanks for sharing! I really want to try this doublet out in a park (and not close to our car, house, QRM, etc) and see how it performs. Very jealous of playing radio in NZ, only been there once but it was an amazing place I want to go back to.

I’ve never used a doublet but I have used and fed and I have a wolf river coil as well and I have had more luck with the Wolf River coil using my 5100 in the past. I still use the Wolf River coil with my 891 in my small HOA yard with no radials. I have a spike with a 3/8 x 24 mount on it and with that I am able to get a SWR of 1.2 to 1.3. Have radials, that I will take with me on activations just in case, and an fed as well in case something should happen to the WRC, but usually the Wolf of coil on a ground spike with no radials has worked very well for me. I also have kids so it has to be quick setup and takedown with least amount of cabling. And this takes me 5 minutes to setup and only wire on the ground is the coax. QRP is hard cause it takes time and patience. Something I don’t have if kids are with me which is usually the case. I sold my 5100 cause my activations are usually short because I’m usually with the kids and I prefer them to have fun so I crank up 90w on my 891 to make sure I’m heard and get my 10 and go. If the kids allow I’ll stay for more contacts.

I run a DX commander and wolf river coil. Instead of a long radial, I chop them into equal parts and crimp together and use Callum from DX commanders turn and anti turn roll-up method for short radials. I literally just take off the Velcro strap and throw and it's out. And they're about 15ft long 4 per group. I connect them with permanently installed bullet connectors
