The Mandela effect is strong w/ some of y'all. Sean Taylor was great but his legacy is so screwed up. A lot of people never saw him play live but they hear stories of his days at The U or watch some highlights on YT then they start repeating the G.O.A.T nonsense. If his life hadn't been cut short then he wouldn't have the crazy legacy. People talking nonsense about Ed Reed, Ronnie Lott, Deion Sanders, & Troy Polamalu to somehow slide Taylor onto the list or say he was a HoF shoe in if he didn't die. In reality Taylor isn't even top 20 in history.

What about soccer player Ledley King? Here is his story:
Ledley King was one of the greatest defenders in Barclays Premier League and in the team of the year season after season. When he was 25 years old however, he received a horrific injury - the capsule of his knee was completely torn and when he was walking, the bones always rubbed on each other. Therefore King was forced to be ruled out of training during the week. He played until 2009 when he was 29 years old after a continuous enhancement of the condition and damage of his knee even more and more. Furthermore, he never played a full 90 minutes game after being found in this condition.

Guys like Sandy Koufax, Bobby Orr, Mike Bossy and Yao Ming were among the greatest ever in their sport, and made the Hall of Fame despite their careers being cut short. We had seen them at their athletic peak, fulfilling their potential. For example, even despite his early retirement, a LOT of baseball fans consider Koufax as the greatest lefthanded pitcher of all time. Bobby Orr is considered the greatest defenceman of all time.
So shouldn't this list be limited only to those great athletes who didn't reach the true pinnacle of their career because they got injured or for other reasons? This is where athletes like Petrovic, Seles, Len Bias cand certainly Bo Jackson ome in. We did not get to see them at their absolute best.
For an additional athlete, I would also add Boston Celtics shooting guard Reggie Lewis, who was just a few years into his All-Star career when he died of a heart condition in 1993. Also Ralph Sampson, who was a great NBA big man in the mid-80's, but couldn't play too many years due to injuries.

Didn't quite do Mike Bossy justice. Had 50 goals 9 of his 10 NHL seasons (10th was shortened by injury). Only one other player in history had 9 50 goal seasons, Gretzky, and it was over twice as many seasons
I know it's not a hockey list, but you could almost make a case for Lemieux too. Between the cancer and back pain so bad he couldn't bend over to tie his own skates before some games, and despite never playing his 1000th career game, he's still top 10 all time in NHL points. Imagine if he'd stayed healthy and had a full 20 year career

    Story:
this midfielder joined the Dutch soccer club Ajax at 7 years of age. And quickly made his way to the third highest level in the club. Where he became a fan favorite.
Finally he played his first game of Ajax and did what the legends Cruijf and van basten did in there first game. He scored.
Sadly in the friendly pre season game against an Austrian club in the mountains he went into cardiac arrest and slipped into a coma.
Two weeks later he woke up, but he suffered brain damage so bad that his career ended at only 20 years old.
