Super Bowl XIII pegged two budding dynasties against each other as the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Dallas Cowboys each looked to become the first franchise to win a third Super Bowl.
Steelers up 21-17. :3rd and long and Terry calls a run audible. See Randy Grossman who gets a perfect block on Too Tall Jones. See also Mike Webster who gets a textbook block on Mike Hegman. And the official that gets a good block on Charlie Waters lol. The Cowboys are in a nickel package meaning no ones in a position to tackle Harris who goes thru the middle for a TD. It was Bradshaws first 300 yard game in a long career. The smaller, lighter Steeler O Line was a great matchup with Doomsday. The Steelers usually didn't have much success running against the Dallas front because they were very disciplined in holding their gaps. But in passing situations, the Steelers O Line won the battle. They used the defenders own momentum against them to create a pocket for Bradshaw. Notice that someone always had a hat on Randy White too in pass situations. The only chance to run against Dallas is when they are pass rushing and the O Linemen use the defenders own momentum against them
Superbowl X with the same teams may have been better. What puts that game over the top was Bradshaw's TD pass late in the 4th. About the greatest SB TD pass ever.
The Cowboys make far too many critical mistakes in this game and dug themselves too large of a hole. But they were so good they were one onside kick and TD from winning the damn thing anyway but those Steelers of the seventies were incredible teams.Incidentally the 90's era Cowboys would have handled the seventies teams because that era was too finesse and the 90's teams would have physicaled them to death, perhaps.fun to speculate.
I still feel to this day the biggest mistake the Cowboys did in this game was to get away from the running game. Dorsett was on fire that day and was eating up Pittsburgh on the opening drive until the fumble exchange b/t D. Pearson and Dorsett. I f they stick to running the ball more, the Cowboys win this game.
David Holcomb I felt the Cowboys were slightly better heading into SB XIII while the Steelers had a better team heading into SB X. I bet Landry had regrets about SB XIII. The Cowboys were pushing them around in the first half and the Steeler's looked scared. Those turnovers hurt them. Grossman had a very good game for Pittsburgh. The Jackie Smith drop was big but didn't tell the whole story. The Steelers also caught a TREMENDOUS break with that bogus pass interference call on Benny Barnes.
***** Yea sometimes when you have two fairly evenly matched contestants it comes down to execution and getting lucky here and there.I will always remember that Randy White fumble cuz he tried to switch hands and the cast on it caused him to lose that ball.
***** I just watched some of those highlights and damn Dallas came roaring back but they just ran out of clock. Some of those early miscues where I think Laundry was too cute trying run some end arounds instead of lining up and taking it to em.When that fancy stuff works it is beautiful to see but it is a low percentage play and in the SB? Come on Tom needed a little more Lombardy in him cuz Coach Noll had plenty. And yea the Cowboys were defending champs weren't they when they beat Denver the year before so they may have been a little more talented overall but the Steelers of that era just won in big games much to my chagrin.
David Holcomb I agree. Playing cute is ok but if you watch the opening drive, Dorsett is getting chunks of yardage and barely getting touched. They abandoned the running game way to early and allowed some bad TD's. Some key plays that seldom get mentioned was the Blount INT. That killed the momentum. The Grossman big 3rd down conversion in the 2nd half. The Benny Barnes bogus PI call. The Cowboys clearly had their chances in this game and should of stuck to the game plan. It would of changed the game.
Cowboys made a lot of mistakes this game it was not like super bowl X when the refs were afraid to throw a flag .But to any steeler fan who says the cowboys are cryboys I hope u don't talk bad about Tom Brady !!!
Hypno toad You can't compare stats from back then to stats today back then there was no shotgun formation, every pass was down the field, and corners could mug receivers on every play, plus Bradshaw, Namath and most other QB's called all their own plays
Hypno toad I think he's underrated. For one thing at least half of his passing statistics were accumulated prior to the 5-yard "chuck rule" and the extended arms/open hands pass-blocking rule that were both instituted in 1978. For another, unlike Staubach, Griese, Montana and other Hall of Fame quarterbacks, Bradshaw actually called his own plays. (That alone proves he was much brighter than many of his self-righteous critics in those days gave him credit for.) For still another he's one of only three quarterbacks in NFL history to lead his team to four Super Bowl wins. So to call him "overrated" is beyond absurd.
It's missing the most important play of the game - Jackie Smith's dropped touchdown.
" Sickest man in America"!😂
The steelers and Cowboys are a classic rivalry
I agree
True
What about the end zone drop??
Didnt show the b.s. pass interference call that lynn swann got which turned the game.
Is there any QB TB12 that wasn't a 4 time super bowl champ?
Your not going to respond to that?
This Super Bowl is history and you can't change it.

Franco Harris is a tank...

Everyone looked so long and lean back then compared to today. I think the shirts were worn a bit looser too but still.
Where was the strip sack of Bradshaw for a Dallas TD?
I remember that game......... I'm 12 years old
I'm 11 (tomorrow)
Slater Sanchez happy birthday i guess
Acereros y Necaxa lo mejor
0:45 did he just say "1st period"
Teh Craftiest Shahrk yes what's wrong?
Same
oh roger
Wow, the Cowboys just gifted them two fumbles at 0:04 and 1:28. No wonder they lost. Neither player was touched by the defense.
I dont like the steelers, but I have respect for them!!! I hope Dallas and Pittsburg could meet up just one more time in the superbowl.
Kris_ x_201 Maybe this year. if we do better.
Black Sunday all over again.
the best super bowl of all time!
Superbowl X with the same teams may have been better. What puts that game over the top was Bradshaw's TD pass late in the 4th. About the greatest SB TD pass ever.
THE BEST SUPER BOWL EVER...YES... THE BEST.
Too bad that we lost.

STEELERS ..........
Steelers rule-wish they were going to the playoffs when it looks like the scumbag Jets will.
+MrStones64 Your dream came true
Terry Bradshaw is so overrated.
***** 212 TDs 210 INTs in his rookie season he threw 6 TDs and 24 INTs not hating on him just saying my opinion.
Hypno toad You can't compare stats from back then to stats today back then there was no shotgun formation, every pass was down the field, and corners could mug receivers on every play, plus Bradshaw, Namath and most other QB's called all their own plays
Russell Wilson is the Bradshaw of today. Not great not bad but gets too much credit

SingleTax I guess so.
