- Today we explored an abandoned bowling alley in my home town, it holds so many memories for me and many others. After five years of being abandoned we head back inside to see what this place looks like now. #abandoned #abandonedplaces
I remember when it was called lakeside
Yes I still refer to the bowling alley as lakeside 😄
£1 lanes on a Saturday morning... Simpler times.
Friday nights started in here, then on to old rectory, lazy lizard, Harry’s.. great era to have grown up in Weymouth
I’m from Weymouth have so many memories here when I was a kid
Me and friends used to have our birthday parties here all the time when we were kids. Once we turned 18 it was still open so we’d always start our night there before heading into Lizard, T-Bar for drinks. Shame so many places have shut down. Thanks for the throwback
Got some memories down they Niel and Dan😊. From Whitey
Used to enjoy going there, but I expected it to close tbh. They seemed to do zero maintenence. Having to wait 10min every other bowl for them to fix the lane just killed it.
The layout of the front changed over the years. I remember first going not long after it opened in the late 1990s. The bowling shop was in half of the glass front. The bar was on the opposite side to where it was when it closed. There was disco/party area in the area in front the toilets. The toilets were the back up toilets. That is why they stank all the time. The main toilets were where the kitchen ended up.
I loved going there, more so as an adult. I was sad to play games on my own but it gave me something to do. The price was good too.
When it closed, it did come as a shock to everyone. I remember talking to a member of staff before the roof fell in that the roof was bad and needed money spent on it to fix the roof but owner of the building at the time, which wasn't the local council, didn't want to spend the money to fix it.
It is a sad loss to the town of Weymouth as there isn't much to do anyway. Weymouth does need something like this in the town again.
Thanks for your comment mate
Fond memories of this building, both as Texas DIY and of course the bowling alley. Not read the comments, but the coin is a Spanish peseta, which was their currency before the Euro took over. Great video, thank you.
Miss this place so much! My stepdad ran it from the time it closed down! that’s also where I got my first work experience 😅
Amazing thanks for the comment bet you got a few free games lol
I remember going here when I WayVally school for are P.E. Lesson and being able to go home straight afterwards. I also remember going to a kids birthday party at the alley. Balls and Harley set up. I’ve got a photos of my son at the bowling alley hoping that one day I’ll be able to take him properly. He was only about one at the time.
I’m from. Dorchester,Always remember having many nights out here, thank you for sharing!real shame its closed,x
I live in Dorchester and went there for a lot of birthdays and the like over the years, good memories. Really cool to see it again if a bit sad. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
So many haopy memories here for me with my kids and other family members. Such a shame 😢
I used to bowl here competitively and worked at the bowl from about 2012-2015
That first room upstairs was actually a storage room and a former kids party room (hence the decor). The second was, as you said, a staff room. The last one was the managers office, but we all spent so much time in there bugging them it may as well have been another staff room!
Oh amazing cheers for the info
My hubby was the Chief Technician who worked on the machine's for 19 years. He was very sad to see it close, it was his anal wrench, he is grovsey 😂
No way I feel like I am speaking to a celebrities wife 😂😂
Not at all but hubby said "get off the lane" 😂 the machine's r called 8270 pinspotter, AMF machine's 😮 he could tell u some stories, he was also a Manager too, he misses the place, he went to work on a Tuesday morning at 9am & was home at 11am, no notice given then they were all made redundant, was quite a shock for them all 😢
Loved working with Grovesy, working my up to being trusted to make his tea was an honour 🤭
How r u x@@sarahbryant5060
@@sarahbryant5060 7 sugars 😂
2:22 i Didn't expect an among us character to be there
That was a great explore i can't remember the last time i went ro a Australian bowling alley.
Upstairs In the staff area, that used to be an area for kids birthday parties, I remember having one there!
What arcade machines did they have? Did they have Tekken 3? Tekken 3 was the quintessential 3D fighting game and was kind of a British arcade staple. Also some of the Capcom fighting games like Street Fighter etc.
I live in Weymouth and I used to love bowling there and I’m going to miss bowling alley
Do many memories £1 a pint on a Monday lol
Thanks for having me along mate. Great to see!
No thanks for helping me out bud x
When it first openned the bar was the other side, I still remember sundays being pound a pint night (and karaoke)... go there with £10 and fall into Vouz afterwards
I remember clearly bro
That was a good watch 😂 I used to work there, you got most of it right, the yellow room was originally a kids room for parties, the room opposite across the stair corridor was the office... Not far wrong about one man running around behind the lanes keeping them running, he is called Paul 😂 He'd be chuffed to know the lanes are still well oiled 👌
Amazing thanks for the comment bud. That's why it says Paul's sexy apron in that room 😂
@@Thecyclingexplorer and Paul's anal wrench... you don't wanna know 😂
Would make an amazing boom battle bar for anyone who’s been to one! Beer pong, axe throwing, virtual darts, crazier golf, shuffleboard, pool tables, cocktails and DJ’s! The clipper would also be a good location for one of these! Sadly “temporary car parks” and “luxury” flats will probably get the deciding vote 😔😔 So sad to see how what our town has become, it could be soooooo much better!
Im from Weymouth I remember when it was called Lakeside me and my brother cleaned it every day.
I remember when it was Texas, there was a spooky shed in the car park that a homeless man lived in. Then it was lakeside. Used to meet up there for a game of pool and cheap drinks before a night out. What a shame they let it go to ruin.
👍gg
I remember when I was a kid, that building was Texas Homecare. My Dad got a lot of building supplies from there. Another Weymouthian here.
proud weymouthian
A fellow Weymouth tuber here, loving this video. I've only lived here 4 years and never got to bowl here. I need to check out all your other videos now :-)
Just been watching some of your bud good stuff
@@Thecyclingexplorer ahhhh thanks. I'm quite new to it all, but learning lots about filming and editing now.
@@livinginweymouthcheers bro I got a drone but don't use it much
I never did do bowling in there but just wanted to say lovely video I’ve subscribed it was nice to get an insight on what it used to be and the wonderful memories you had there. It is such a shame that they couldn’t have moved to another premises in Weymouth and re opened instead of closing. Or maybe re sorting the room out re building the venue again x
I'm finally getting around to watching this video It looks like something interesting for sure
I remember when it was Texas and its was DIY shop I lived going in the fake rooms set up and pushing all the doorbells x
I remember lakeside, focus do it all and Texas.
Sadly Weymouth has nothing to do like this. It's such a shame the council never allowed the equivalent of tower park to be built in Weymouth so investment went elsewhere.
Amf wood lanes and amf 8270 pinsetters (machines)
I was about to say the same thing. I worked as a pinsetter mechanic years ago on same type of machines. They could be challenging to keep all lanes running during a league or tourney
@@miketaylor2197 AMF 8270 is sadly still around in the whole world. Of course worst in US. This explored alley is quite newish, so I was surprised to see 8270 and not 8290 at least. But everyone should have upgraded to 8290XLI if they arent upgrading to AMF Edge. The it is sad to see the lanes so worn out. The worn part of the lanes arent damage from explorers, it is worn out from ill-maintance of the wood lanes.
Over here in America those Machines are called a pen setter Orphan setter because it is a bowling pin and that's the machine that resets them
Had my 12th birthday in there
I remember going here as a child good times it was sad the fact it closed down because of the roof collapse supposedly
Hi guys, nice exploration. That coin is from Spain and calls "PESETAS". 25 pecetas equals to 0,15 euros
Those bowling machines are made by AMF and are the 82-70 model
Lakeside
loved this....❤ can I have some pins please ❤
£1 a pint on Sundays after 6... you just had to put up with the karaoke and the fact it was Fosters.
It was always called Lakeside for me. £1 a pint on a Thursday. Spent many nights in there with my fellow Grease Monkeys from McDonalds
Being turned into a temporary car park very soon
Already is 😁
What’s this? An explore? On abandoned explorer’s channel?
What is this called if you don't mind asking????
Had some fun in this place especially trying to bowl would normally end up on my ass 😂
The coin is Spanish
Spanish coin pre Euro, Peseta.
I wonder who the houses are being built for? And why we are losing fun things like this in our towns just to build houses for foreigners that came here illegally
my mum's an immigrant and she took me here as a child. she's also been working here for the last 20 years. why not instead focus on the millionaires buying up these houses as second homes and raising our housing prices to london levels?
