Just want to say thanks for your video. It got me through my install. Only issue with my install was losing one of the clips which landed on top of my skid plate. Getting that clip out took longer than the rest of the install.
Oh yeah, you gotta keep a grip on the clip 😂 glad it helped, enjoy!
Great description of the install. Left nothing to question. Thanks
Thank you! We appreciate you watching!
Great video. Just discovered some worn paint and rust around the scoop on my ‘21 ORP. Your video is just what I needed to figure out how to remove the scoop to fix the problem.
Awesome
Thanks for the video and for listing the part numbers...made ordering easy.
You're welcome, thanks for watching
Surprising no one commented yet. Good detail, helps me out on another project involving the hood scoop on my TRD Off Road.
Excellent, glad it helped! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video it looks great!!
Thank you 👌🏻
I'm plasty dipping mine right now. 2021 TRD off road. Silver with black accents. Can't wait to see the finished look.
I removed and painted my front and rear valances black, turned out great 👍🏻
I did mine last summer.
As a tip, the OEM clips on the heat liner have dots on the cap that line up with the parts that need to be pinched.
Good to know 👌🏻
That looks easy. I thought they were glued in. Im ordering a kit now!
Excellent
Where do you order and does it fit the 2021 venture trim 4runner?
@@monkeymatt5518 I believe the Venture is the same as my TRD Off Road, the part number is in the description 👌🏻
The scoop comes black as it appears in the video or you have to paint it?
Great video, very detailed.
Yes, that part number is black from the factory 👌🏻
Matte black?
@@monkeymatt5518 correct, it is not glossy. It's unpainted (matte black)
Is this scoop straight from the factory? Did you do anything to it before installing? Has it had peeling issues or anything?
Hi, yes this is a factory Toyota hood scoop for the Pro model, all the parts numbers are in the video
Buy the genuine ones, not imitations because they will bend over time. Nice video!
That's what I figured would happen, it's usually best to go with factory parts if possible. Thanks for watching!
@@installsandpitfalls agreed. They’re nearly the same price anyway.
Definitely
What’s up bro! What model 4R do you have? I have an ‘18 TRD Off-Road. I saw the TRD Pro version of the hood scoop cheaper for like $60, but says that it’s not compatible with the TRD Off-Road versions.
Mine is a 2020 ORP, the Pro scoop fit perfectly
Thanks bro! I’ll definitely order the one you recommended as it was about $40 cheaper than the one that the website suggests haha. If they’re about the same and they work the same, then no problem at all haha 🤙🏽
@@av-z I was surprised how cheap it was for the OEM Toyota pro one
Do you need to pinch the clips when removing the hood insulation or can you just pop them out with a two pronged tool and reuse them ?
We did it both ways, I'm not sure which is the best, we only broke one 😂
Thanks,good video btw
Thank you!
So was the genuine OEM part used in the filming of this video ?
Yes, the black was a OEM part I ordered from Toyota and the white one I removed was the factory scoop.
I performed the same install all on OEM parts, including new gaskets on a 2023 off road premium. It went as smoothly as you described. However, I don't really know if there was a water leak prior to the install, but there is solid water leak through the hood scoop after the install. There is nothing wrong with my install: all gaskets are new and in good condition, installed to specs, the scoop is in great condition, all clips are in, all nuts are in, the hood scoop sits seemingly flush, nothing seems odd or uneven. However, pour some water with a water bottle in either of the front-two-most corners, and water seeps in to the heat shield. Is this normal? Everything leads me to believe that this is the way it was before, but its hard to know for sure.
Hi, I haven't had any leaks. Have you checked to make sure all the tabs are snapped down completely? It's the only thing I can think of.
Yeah, I’ve checked everything. I’m confident that it’s all installed properly, there was nothing overwhelming or challenging about the job. But the leak isn’t obvious because the heat shield.
You’d need to pour some, and watch it for about 30 seconds then touch the head shield. I don’t even know if those gaskets are even for water shielding. Because there are 1” gaps at the top between the seals, but also, the mesh itself that clips into the scoop has four clips and is totally not gasketed.
The gaskets seem to be for noise/rattle reduction, not water intrusion. I'll look under my hood this afternoon, I've driven through a lot of heavy rain lately.
Agreed. Thanks. Let me know what you find.
Sorry I took so long to get back, we've been swamped. I don't see any indications of water intrusion. I have power washed and driven through crazy rain since installing it. I'm not sure why you're having an issue. Does it happen when you don't pour water directly into it?
Does anyone know if this part will fit on a 2013 4Runner Off Road edition? I called a dealer and they can only confirm it fits a 2018 and above.
I don't believe they changed the hood scoop at all between 2018 and 2023.
Are the gaskets reusable?
They aren't, they have adhesive on the back. But, they're pretty inexpensive.
@@installsandpitfalls just ordered everything you listed for $93 shipped
Excellent, let us know how it goes 👍🏼
@@installsandpitfallsI just finished it. I only took out the front two clips and reached under the liner. When it came to snapping the new hood scoop in place I used pliers to grab the tabs to pull them through. Thanks for the video!
Awesome, that's a good tip!
It seems the hoodscoop doesn’t do anything. It’s just cosmetic 😅
Correct, I don't think any 4Runner had a functional hood scoop
