  • We hope this video can help you decide what safety gear is right for you!
    It turns out I have quite a bit to share about my experiences and opinions of/with skateboard safety gear my first year. The mistakes were many my first year but the lesson's learned gained some experience I hope can help someone else on their skateboarding journey.

    END THE HELMET STIGMA! - I wanted to talk more about this, as new skater coming from a MTB background - the lack of helmets worn by skaters strikes me as odd. This could be a great video topic in itself!

    When we use protection gear, that give us more confident to try new things and take more risk to improve. Protection gear is a MUST.

    Seriously great video! You covered it all. I also find myself needing redundant pads, for circumstance and season. Definitely a priceless investment. 47 dealing with neck (dilocated shoulder torn rotator torn scapula has been a mfer) wrist elbow hip knee (no tailbone left) shattered heel partial titanium face and I NEVER wore any pads until recently. I cannot express enough how much investing in and WEARING all these pads helps ...my Triple 8 Bumsavers are made by angels. We need something good for shoulder impact that will slide. Falling safely is still a learning process for me. My skating has progressed more recently than ever. I have confidence to stray from my comfort zone and learn new things, go faster, higher and have more fun. I actually feel bad for the young guys that don't wear pads and helmets because I know what they are going to be dealing with in the future. Again great video ..new sub 🔨

      Thank you!!! Love this feedback. I don’t get the stigma of safety gear while skating. Seems to be going away a bit more with Hero’s like Andy out there wearing helmets even if his sponsors will pay him more to not!

    Wrist guards is something I can't skate without. Then it's helmet and knee pads. As we get older, we need more and more padding everywhere!

    Great video mate! I love the enthusiasm and the great tips. As a 42 year old skater who has only been skating for a year I can definitely empathise with the importance of good protective gear. I chew through wrist guards like they are going out of fashion, but waaaaaay cheaper than going to a doctor. Also, helmet. Every. Single. Time. #Helmetgang

      Awesome! Thanks for the feedback, definitely been learning the hard way on some things lol. I am so amazed by how so few wear helmets!

    I watched every second of this, well done my man! You filled in the gaps as to what I'm missing in my protective gear line up. I have been skateboarding and surfskating on and off most of my life. Never ever owned any pads, helmets, etc. I finally fell hard a couple weeks ago, got lucky, didn't hit my head and only left a little blood on the pavement. Like you, my wife is occasionally surfskating with me. It was her birthday last week and it was a no brainer as what to get her as a gift. I went to my local skate shop and got her two helmets, a gloss white and a matte lavender and a set of knee and elbow pads. The brand, Pro Tec. I also got myself a helmet, knee and elbow pads. I definitely need to get us wrist/palm pads and since I skate barefoot 50% of the time, I need some skate shoes as well. Aloha, Billy

      My man! This is awesome to hear! Thanks for viewing and the feedback. I am so baffled by the safety stigma around skating and lack of professional riders setting the example. I’ve seen interviews with Andy Anderson where he states he could make more $ as a pro skater NOT wearing a helmet… nuts. Andy is my favorite skater right now. Super cool to watch skate plus his personality and smarts are great in interviews! Kid is an inspiration no doubt, if only I had a fraction of his skill set… my god.
      Glad to hear you invest into your safety and protection. Great insurance policy!

  • @AdventuresInSkateboarding

    Well thought-out and explained with good energy.
    I always wear my wrist guards. I like ones that slide in and have support in front and back. I out my helmet in as the risk goes up. Just talked about this at the end of a video I did with Michael Relevant in his channel.
    Old Bones are Greta. I did have to go down a size for the knees. Initially I order XL based off the recommended measurement chart using the upper leg. It felt good but not great so I am over to a LG and love them.
    I put in elbow pads when going for board slides or higher risk grinds.
    And if I am going in the bowl I am full pads.
    I have not tied a hip pads yet but if I ever try and learn very I will look into it.
    Solid and informative video.
    The goal is to keep skating so why not protect yourself.
    Stay Rad Sir.

      Thanks my man! I was surprised by how much I had to share on this subject. Sounds like you as a responsible adult skater make sure you have the right gear for the situation! Rad! I didn’t wear all my gear skating home from the ramp but most definitely did while ripping it. I think I want to make a video about the helmet stigma of skateboarding- I so don’t get it.

      Can that be checked somehow? I bought a used one, didn't know any of that. 🙈 What happens with it after the hit?

    • @chronicalcultivation
      @chronicalcultivation Před rokem

      @@janczo8014 honestly, I would never buy a used helmet in the first place. If an impact occurs and there's any hairline cracking or such that you can't see, the helmet no longer protects like it should, and you won't know until another accident when it doesn't do its job.. by then it's too late!

    • @boisebroncoadventures
      @boisebroncoadventures  Před rokem +1

      @@janczo8014 not really- it may be just fine. Get it sweaty and get some use out of it just the same! The MIPS systems do expand on impact so if it has that tech that could help identify any damage possibly

    Hey have you heard of force field body armour for extreme sports. ?
    I almost got a few things for snowboarding like the chest and back protector. But I’ll wait till summer. I also ride motorcycles and force fields stuff is CE rated.

    I’ve been trying to find good gear. But between sizes being too small for my head and knees it’s kind of looking like a lost cause. One size fits all just doesn’t work for me either 😂 I’ll keep trying though.

      It took me a while to get my gear dialed in. Thinking of maybe trying some different knee pads (187s) good luck and hopefully you can find a shop with some stock to try on.
