  • We travelled to Vancouver from Heathrow on the 2pm flight which meant we landed at about 7pm their time. It was a shlep by the time we got luggage and hire car to drive to Sun Peaks, our skis were delayed coming off which did mean a pretty late arrival into Sun Peaks, that suited us as 2 guys, but as a family I might have chosen a layover in Vancouver and an early drive up to resort - personal choice.
We went 2nd February 2024, snow conditions weren't the usual but whilst locals weren't happy, we were, it snowed every day we were there and condition were better than most places I've seen in years in Europe.

We were kitted out in Helly Hansen gear which really kept us super dry and warm when we really needed it. The Elevation Pro Shell jacket and Bib pants was a lovely combo, I had a lot of comments on this gear :)

The drive up on the main highway is simple, it is dark i.e. no road lighting and plenty of big lorries on that Trans Canada highway. There are places to stop on the way but do keep an eye on fuel levels.
Sun Peaks is simple, pedestrianised and ski thru the village as you can see. I would really rate it for families for varied skiing and giving the children of all ages a real freeride experience.
I didn't experience any off piste while there as I understood snow conditions to have not been safe enough.
I particularly liked the amount of places for lovely breakfasts from simple coffee and pastries at my favourites Bolacco and Altitude, both great coffees, great pastries and smoothies or if you want something a bit more full on you can get bacon and egg muffins, gorgeous oatmeal and full on cooked breakfasts at Cahilties across the car park, super good :)
Lunches were good at both Bottoms and Massas, typical Canadian style and great service.
Mountain high pizza is very good, but it's more casual take out or perch on a table, but very good pizzas, rather than full on sit down, Sun Peaks Lodge steak house (part of the hotel) is very very good, the Japanese OYA is very good, to name just a few, to be honest lots of places for a beer, and for food, as far as I'm concerned you pretty much can't go wrong here.
    Real Pros
Lots of great food options, rolling cruising groomers, friendly and helpful people
    Cons
It's a bit of a journey (but if you ignore the flight length as obv anywhere state side you have the flight) then the transfer is only the same as Geneva to Tignes, most of the terrain is more sedate but in the conditions I didn't get to see any steeper stuff, I think it lacks the "big mountain" views and feel that you get from some of the european and other resorts.
