    I am going through the same thing. I couldn’t get the left foot accelerator installed unless I did the certified driving instructor course and test. You are right it is expensive. So, is the part. I chose to do it, though, in case I’m ever in an accident. I wanted to be able to demonstrate that I have done everything possible to be a safe driver. I also need to take the DMV road test to get my license updated. It is a process. I recommend, as you said, that people start early. Thank you for sharing!

    I found a shop to do the work without a doctor/therapist. In Florida, we have to get the exception added to your driver's license. We opted for a mechanical pedal.

    The right leg was amputated above the knee, the left leg was amputated below the knee. I drove a manual, pressed the clutch with my left hand, and manually operated the gas brake. Now I bought a car with an automatic transmission, I drive on the left, but I’m thinking about a backup pedal, it’s really not very comfortable to sit.

    I’m going through same issue. Aetna will pay for the modification but not for the training OT/PT. I found a high quality service in Florida but it’s all cash no insurance.

    Hi. Thank you for this video. What was the specific make and model of the accelerator you purchased?

    Could you please tell me the brand/make of the electronic pedal. I was AKA at 10 years of age. I've been driving since I was 16, that's 50 years. Yes, that's no typo. I've never had to jump trough rings of fire like this to maintain my mobility. But now I am purchasing a new car and learning about requirements of the CDI and other BS. This is just idiocy of regulations. I want an electronic pedal: please tell me the make. Ive got a mechanic who is willing to install. I would greatly appreciate it!

    I'm 52, and my right leg has been paralyzed since birth. I got my license at 16, and I've used a left-foot accelerator the whole time. My state (Missouri) must not have any rules about doctor's prescriptions, etc., because I didn't have to jump through any hoops to get my pedal installed.

    That much for that service? Tell them the FBI loves price gougers and watch it drop. That's insane to punish disabled people like that.

      @RightLeg404  Před rokem +1

      To be fair, they come out to you with a modded vehicle to help you learn. While I agree their pricing is a little steep their service to me was very good.

      @@RightLeg404 oh ok. Got ya! I advocate for disabled people and children. Just seeing the price tag they put on your life is absurd. These can cost more than a house! And they expect you to fork it up because it's "your fault".
      I wish you the best my new friend! Anything you need, resources, or something, let me know. I'm always here to help!

      Hello I'm also here in Texas, I just bought a left foot Accelerator that u can put or pull the gadget what will u recommend for me since now my right foot is weak I can only use my left

    • @RightLeg404
      @RightLeg404  Před rokem

      You can use that to learn how to drive with your left foot. Just know for you to be “legally allowed” to drive with that you’ll need to take the road test at the DPS with the left accelerator so that they can put the classification on your license. Getting pulled over while driving the left accelerator and not having that on your license would get you in trouble. Hope that helps.

      In SC we have to pay $280 per week, at least 4 weeks, and I have to drive my husband to her, which is an hour away. He's on social security, so this is quite expensive. Oh, and her car is only modded for hand controls, so we don't even know yet if she'll say yes to this way.

    Why does government make things so complicated?
