  • I just wanted to get this up fast so no editing. Southern Pacific 4449 going 60 mph in the Columbia River Gorge. I had to wait 3 hours in the sun today but I got to meet some nice people so it was worth it. Great view of Mt Hood in Oregon. Joe Buck would say something like,
“Oh, hell, that wasn’t no damn close call!
That was a hustle! That’s what that was!
I got this damn thing all figured out, Ratso. I mean, Rico.
Once we get to Miami, we’ll get us a video camera ...”

    "Ding-Ding-Ding-Ding-Ding-Ding-Ding-Ding"
"That's the signal. We better cross over now!"
    "Chooo-Whooohooooo!"
    "There it is. RUN!"

You know I actually wonder how well Ed Dickens whistle pattern would work on every operational steam locomotive that has highballed on the main line in excursion service over the years aside from 844, 4014 and 3985.
