Mielcks symphony inspired Sibelius to write his first symphony. - Hudba
Wow! What a great symphony: begins like Bruckner, and finishes like Sibelius. What a pity that the composer died so young :((
The score can be acquired through the publisher Music Finland Core
Very nice work, especially for someone who died before his 22nd birthday and didn't start playing the piano till he was ten. Thanks!
Stupenda sinfonia.
Wonderful symphony and also this composer had a great potential in great success had he not died tragically very young... aside from that thank you for uploading this.
Amazing
Sorprendente que está gran sinfonía haya sido escrita por alguien tan joven.
My God another unsung genius passed away so young.... Someone cited Hamerik. Agree although I find this symphony more "Nordic" than Hamerik ones that sounds more gentle even while dark. Here I feel like more energy although more gloomy and desperate sometimes. I distinctly hear Bruckner legacy even more than Sibelius. Great piece for a teenager. Mature as he were at least twice as old.
What a hugely promising composer: naïve at times, a bit awkward now and again, more concerned with the moment than anything long-term, easily influenced and very passionate - in other words just like any other 20 year old touched by genius. Sadly at 40+ minutes I can't see any foreign orchestras taking this up but it's well worth hearing. It's indeed tragic he died so young.
Another beautiful symphony! Thank you. What an amazing era for the symphony. I enjoy them all and this one very much.
Beauty that deeply touches the soul.
A fascinating work with so many moods, powerful and lyrical, and such great orchestration for a first symphony.
A wonderful work.
A nice symphony with one of the best finales I've heard till now.
I discovered this symphony at 59 years of age
Wonderful and very original initial Andante maestoso! Nice work!
Molto significativa questa composizione, con temi accattivanti e un rigore formale degno dei Grandi. Grazie Herr Kuhlau
The totality of the nuances of this sound architecture is like a flight in the Sublime, it is one of the most divine and evocative music I have ever listened to so far. It's played with a feeling of tremendous inner power. A delightful listening experience
Wonderful piece. Another great loss like Rott and Kalinnikov.
This would be a huge artistic achievement for a 54-year old, let alone a young man three-years-and-a-summer removed from high school.
Magnifique !
I find it very interesting and cool, that the ending theme of the finale movement is Wie Schoen Leuchtet, the Lutheran hymn by Philip Nicolai in the late 1500's. It starts around 33:43.
And foreshadowed in a slightly different form in the first movement, when it goes into the major at around 4:28.
This was wonderful. Thank you for posting for us to hear. I'm not familiar with Mielck at all.
Marvellous stuff!
Hamrik is one of my favourites. But i agree this is maybe even better. Everybody talks about Bruckner. Have been trying to listen to him for 40yrs. Never happens :(
The first Finnish symphony!
Hannu Reittu before this did he do the same as Schubert and wrote an UnFinnish Symphony?
Not quite; Sibelius' Kullervo Symphony dates from 1891-92.
@@jarmokankaanpaa6528 The first Finnish symphony was penned in 1847 by Alex Ingelius (1822-1868), a student of German-born Fredrik Pacius (1809-1891).
Finally a symphony with some melodies. I find it hard to get a symphony with a good melody after 1850-ish
It's hard to get one before 1850s as well...

I've heard many romantic symphonies with nice melodies.
Don't know him! but, its Beautiful! thanks!
Excellent.
Well, the good news is that there's a score of this piece. However, you have to buy it for $50. It's a PDF file.

the good died young. sound mature for his age.
Very similar in style to the symphonies of Asger Hamerik.
Always been searching for the darkest, saddest, gloomiest symphonies around.
Why didn't I even thought of Finnish composers? :P
What does that Lemminkainen picture here ?
He was so young... ;_;
we buff them the scoundrel
Philippe Cirse Um... What?
@@MegaCirse - What are you talking about?? Doesn't make any sense.

What is the name/artist of the painting?
'Lemminkäinen's Mother' by Akseli Gallen-Kallela.
The painting shows a scene from the national epic "Kalevala". Lemminkäinen was killed by the cowherd of Pohjola while trying to hunt the swan of Tuonela (the Land of the Dead) seen in the background. The cowherd chopped up the body and threw the pieces in the River of Tuonela. Lemminkäinen's mother fished out the pieces with a bronze rake and sewed them back together. In the painting she is waiting for the bee (above her) to bring her honey with which to bring her son back to life.
@@jarmokankaanpaa6528 She's missed a few bones though. Like when I take something apart I always have a few things left over after putting it back together again! :-)
@@BobBeverage I would guess those are from previous swan-hunting attempts since Lemminkäinen doesn't appear to be missing his skull, whatever other parts he might be lacking.

Not bad for a 20-year-old.
He died just two days before his 22nd birthday.
