It wouldn't hurt to learn the French rating system. Never know when you'll take an international climbing trip and have to convert the grades for yourself anyway.

It's not too hard once you come to terms with it. 5.14a is 8b+5.14b is 8c 5.14c is 8c+, 9a translates to 5.14d, 9a+ is 5.15a etc.
