    Wow, so this is also my first exposure to Highlight. But something about these guys hit me different! They have a really mature energy, like this sort of quiet strength? Hard to describe, just how I'm feeling after watching this video. I put this song in my kpop playlist, I think I may check out more of them!

    • @vdfe
      @vdfe Před 2 lety +8

      "Quiet strength" is a very good way to put it. Highlight is confident (and they have all the right to be) but at the same time they are grounded and humble. They're also not after fame but longevity. I have so much respect for these guys.

      They are very funny and loveable as well! I'd recommend their MMTG and Showterview if you want to know more about their past career, and their show Superseller here on YT if you want to see them just being themselves.

      Highlight used to be known as Beast. They’ve had a history of struggles and triumphs and they’re considered role models by younger groups such as BTS, Seventeen, Victon. All of their songs are excellent, including B releases; they compose and produce their own materials, and their live performances are powerful and charismatic.

  • @l1smm309
    @l1smm309 Před 2 lety +34

    They make this look so smooth and easy. Damn. The experience really shows. They’re also one of those groups that is known for their live vocals, that’s why, although relatively complex in some places, their choreography isn’t wildly explosive. It perfectly fits the purpose of making the performance look good while letting them sound good too. ^^
    Ps. I absolutely love how you’ve been reacting to so many 2nd gen groups!

    Awesome! There are four official members now. Lee Gikwang (the one with the body rolls) is their main dancer. They have some great choreos from their time they were BEAST, with songs like Fiction, Breathe and Shock!

    Thankyouuu for reacting to highlight, they were previously known as BEAST and were under CUBE, but they left cube in 2016 and made their own agency “Around Us” . They later debuted as HIGHLIGHT in 2017 with “Please don’t be sad” . There are 4 official members of HIGHLIGHT as of now, perviously in BEAST there were 6.
    They have dance practices and MV’s for please don’t be sad, can be better, celebrate and loved from HIGHLIGHT.
    Also you can check out their BEAST discography. The MV’s and Dances were rather strong when they were BEAST. I would recommend Checking out “Fiction” this was their most popular track in 2011, it also has a dance practice. Also do check out “Shock”, “Breath”, “12:30”, “YeY” from BEAST.
    Their main dancer is Lee Gikwang, he’s considered one of the best dancers of 2nd gen along with Taemin and Eunhyuk from Suju. They even had a collab where these 3 created a dance routine from scratch.
    I’d love to see you react to HIGHLIGHT (ex BEAST). Th

  • @rainbowatsummit
    @rainbowatsummit Před 2 lety +20

    Highlight are amazing!! Gikwang is definitely one of my favorite male dancers in kpop with Shinee Taemin and SJ Eunhyuk tbh (if you'd like the three of them have a performance video for Gallant's "Weight in Gold" that they choreographed themselves for a show called Why Not The Dancer, it's a lot of fun) and Yoseob is an awesome vocalist I LOVE his voice- he had a solo comeback earlier this year called "Brain" if you'd like to check that out!!
    Speaking of Gikwang, he's been posting performance videos this year from time to time, you can find them on Highlight's channel! He also has many solo songs, I love Don't Close Your Eyes and Lonely the most- those have really cool choreos as well :)

  • @chasdore

    If you liked the choreo for Not The End you'll like the choreo for their song Loved (they are 4 as well in Loved but with a different member who left the group in 2019, their leader was already enlisted at the time).
    Not the End was choreographed by Gikwang (with the silver hair in the MV, Eunhyuk from SuJu calls him the body wave master haha) and a choreographer called Wootae (part of a dance studio called JustJerk, his solo channel here is Wootae Chae). It would have been fun if you had reached to their relay dance for Not the End as well, the bloopers reel is almost 2 minutes long.
    Main singer Yoseop's latest song (Brain) is also choreographed by Wootae so I think you'd like the choreo for that one as well, it sounds that this style is one of your vibes.
    Gikwang started working with Wootae after they met as coaches on Dancing High, he's also worked with his studio for his solo song Don't Close Your Eyes.
    He is good friends with Lia Kim from 1million as well and has worked with her and 1million studio for his solo song Lonely, the choreo has great couple work, pretty rare in k-pop. His style is so clean and flowy, really satisfying to watch.
    P.S. They're famous for their footwork since way back. Also for their live vocals. And they are actually CUBE's first boys group so they are BTOB's older brothers :)

    They use to be known as Beast and they are the best K-Pop group ever. They debuted in 2009 and you should look up all their songs. They are iconic and are still listened to today and their vocals are amazing and they harmonise so well together. Beast had six members but now as Highlight they have four.

    I think you will really like their new comeback, Alone. Great retro baseline (almost disco) and fantastic choreo, giving a chance to show off main dancer Gikwang, one of the best 2nd gen dancers. English CC are on the MV version on Highlight’s channel, and for the choreo there’s a Studio Choom and a dance practice. And If you want to laugh with the 2nd gen not taking a relay dance seriously, there’s that too. Please check them out!

      @@icjacks2348 yeah the cut off between generations is arguable for a lot of groups in the tail end of one and beginning of the next but BEAST/HIGHLIGHT is way closer to 2nd gen than 3rd gen, even for 2.5 gen.
      Two of the members of the original line up, Hyunseung (who left in 2016) and Dujun (leader), trained with BigBang and 2am/2pm respectively but didn't make the final cut, and their songs and concepts were and are still very much "2nd gen energy". They are also born '89 ~ '91 so age wise fit right in with other 2nd gen groups. That's why they're usually included in 2nd gen, esp because a lot of people don't use the term 2.5 gen.
      Also I just checked 2009 debut groups and BEAST debuted 5 months after 2NE1 (and Gikwang debuted solo a couple weeks before 2NE1) so according to your own list they should probably be included in 2nd gen haha.

      @@icjacks2348 2011 and 2012 are indeed the years of their peak popularity. . .i'm not sure why you haven't watched them earlier but maybe because they are from a small company.
