    How to version of the video.
    A Salt and Peper grinder can be a fast and simple gift to make. if you have a lathe it can be made even faster, but you can still make it without a lathe. it is amazing what an octagon can do and how easy they are to make. so here is a no lathe salt and pepper grinder.

    At my first Hand planer Anonymous meeting: When I'm not hand planing, I like to watch other balding men with beards hand plane. I listen to their planes like a listen to my own, but can't obey their instructions. I feel like an indoor cat watching the birds at the feeder outside. It's unfulfilling but addictive.

    Never even thought to do a grinder without a lathe. Always just assumed I couldn't since I didn't have a lathe, but that looks easy enough.

      Barrels on fine English shotguns are hand struck. They file the outside to match the inside diameter at a perfect taper to distribute the weight perfectly. They start with an octagonal, then increase the flats to 16, 32 and round of from there. Wall thickness is perfect withing a thou or two. You can do a whole lot w o a lathe! I've seen people do large wood screws with hand tools too.

    Hey James 👋🏻 nice project 👍🏼 next time you want to bore a hole , you could use your lathe !! Your fostner bit on the right side with a chuck , and your peace on the left . At first it’s bizzare because it’s your peace that turns 😂 Anyway enough of my talking always love your ideas and projects 👍🏼🇨🇦

      Right on. But with this one I was trying to show how to build it without using a lathe. As most people. That's the first thing I think about when making one.

    What brand of files do you use? Are they from amazon?

    • @WoodByWright
      @WoodByWright  Před 2 lety +1

      I generally use cheap files. When it comes to files woodworking cheap works just as well. Now if you're looking at rasps then you get what you pay for. That is two particular brand. I generally don't look at the brand, The cut pattern is what's important.
