I don't think they should be critcized for it but uh those lyrics definitely were sexual inneudos. That doesn't mean it's the only valid interpretation of the lyrics, but it's definitely there. Selena's lines are more blatant but also:
"Even in the sun you know I keep it icy
. You could take a lick but it’s too cold to bite me"
"Look so good yeah look so sweet. Looking good enough to eat/Baby you deserve a treat"
"Ice on my wrist yeah I like it like this. Get the bag with the cream. If you know what I mean"
"You’re the only touch yeah they get me melting. He’s my favorite flavor always gonna pick him"
"You’re the cherry piece just stay on top of me so. I can’t see nobody else for me no"
"Get it flip it scoop it. Do it like that ah yeah ah yeah. Like it love it lick it. Do it like lalala oh yeah"
Which is almost the entire song with Selena's lyrics. It's clear the the girls are ice cream (in most of the lyrics) and they're singing to a male who's their "favorite flavor" and "cherry piece" on top of them. There's also in there a number of references to him licking them as "ice cream", so yeah. This is the least explicit way I can point this out, but plently of people have done further analysis on this if you're curious/not convinced. Also, Ariana's writing contribution should be noted here is she is pretty much the queen of sexual innuedo in pop music.
Also, from what I've seen there's also a fair amount of critique on the fact the music video portrays them as childlike/aged down which with the sexual innuedo is understandably problematic.
You're point though on the gender inequality of it is definitely spot on though on the criticism of the lyrics vs male idols praises for similar lyrics.

most kpop fans are girls. now i'm one of them but i'm almost 17 that is almost an adult. so i think kpop fans of age group 15 and above are quite mature and understanding of such issues. but the female fans who are below the age of 15 (not all, but most of them) tend to be partial towards their male idols. most of the time, it's these young girls who post about how girl groups have easier dances and are only famous for being "sexually appealing". it's mostly these young female fans who tend to underestimate girl groups. this includes telling things like "rapping is something only boys can do" and "visuals are the only reason they are famous" etc.
we fail to realize that these girls do this because that is what they are taught to do. this is what the society teaches girls: IF ANY GIRL IS "PRETTIER" OR "MORE TALENTED" THAN YOU, SHE IS YOUR ENEMY. this sentence is 50% of the reason gender inequality exists.
so girls, stand up for yourself. stand up for other girls as well. stand up for men too. and remember, you are beautiful from your soul, not your body. you are beautiful because of your deeds, not because of your face. and talking about talent, all us us are talented, but in different tings. so tell me, is there any reason to hate someone if she is "prettier" or "more talented"?

      1. Feminism is not what most people think it is. It's to support equality (for both genders) and to lift people and acceptance

The industry doesn't accept women being succesful after passing 30,and we have to reinvent ourselves all the time in other to stay at the top" - She said this but I changed a little bit some of her words because it would've been so long. To be honest what you added goes both ways, male idols are also bashed for their weight, they often have to starve themselves to get the bodies fans want. Baekhyun from exo literally starved himself to please a fan who said he’d look better with abs, and jimin from bts was and still is bodyshamed. That’s how the “jimin diet” got popularized. As for the outfits, male idols are sexualized and most of the time they don’t even want to wear the outfits take Kai from exo as an example, a stylist literally said “originally we put a shirt there but we took it off cuz he looked sexier without it” Kai was and still is sexualized, most of the time he looks really uncomfortable with these outfits but obviously no ones gonna talk about that cuz most of you follow the belief that male idols are pampered. Not to mention when a male idol checks a female idol out because she’s wearing revealing/attractive clothes people are quick to call them perverts and disgusting people, but when a female does the same when a male idol takes off his shirt in a performance people say she’s “relatable” and make jokes about it. Yes, but that is exactly the point of being a female kpop idol (even male). Being the perfect delicate doll.
The entertainment industry, plastic surgery, the government, society are so closely tied and the kpop female idols are basically role models for girls/women. It shows them what kind of woman they need to be, to be considered perfect woman.
It's in the name itself. Being an idol, means that you are an example of perfection. That's why they all almost look identical. The same oval face, button up nose, double eyelids, v-shaped chin, slim body, tight waist, long legs, long hair... And if you don't have that naturally you go to plastic surgery or do dangerous diets.
At no means I agree with this treatment, but that is something Korean women need to stop themselves.
I think the only way of getting less crap from k-netizens is to seperate yourself from the title kpop idol and just be a singer, or band... You will still be criticized, but not as harsly when you are not trying to be the perfect idol in their eyes.

One thing I've seen in many female fans when they see any of their favourite male idols they can't able themselves to hide their sexual desire and say whatever they want to say which is sometimes quite disgusting. But when a male fan express his desire saying "He wants to marry her( any female idol)" then most of the female fans come at him start saying it spreads saesang propaganda when most of the saesangs are female . So double standards are everywhere.

I'm so glad that you talked about this topic, Cause it's really unfair not just to Idols but also to all females Out there that they have to deal with this a lot. When A girl Is over weight they get criticized, skinny criticized, Sexy criticized, pretty, ugly and almost all things girls do they get judge and criticized. I have too, myself have experienced all of this, and it is truly unfair and now Especially to female idols that they don't even get to do what a normal human being would. Instead of living their Dreams, they are now living a life of hell. THOSE TOXIC FANS DONT DESERVE TO LIVE IF THEY ONLY JUDGE, CRITICIZED AND SPREAD TOXICITY TO THEIR IDOLS!!!

This video is best explanation why I can't find it in myself go support boy groups/idols. As a woman I f*cking hate it when somebody tells me "you should do this or that because you're a woman" or "a woman shouldn't act like that!", hence why I wholeheartedly support only female idols. They are HUMAN BEINGS not f*cking dolls! Let them live however they want to, do whatever they want to and wear whatever they want to! And stay f*cking out of their lives! Yes, I do believe that men have it easier in life (you can criticize me for that, I honestly don't care about people's opinion and I'm too old to participate in comment wars), same goes for male idols. They are talented and all, but when they give their 100% of hard work, female idols are forced to give 10000% of even harder work. I hope one day female kpop idols will get their well deserved freedom or at least learn to not care about toxic "fans".

there's another. the controversy regarding blackpink's jennie from their latest song "lovesick girls". she was criticized for wearing a nurse outfit because it looked 'overtly sexual'; people said it was demeaning to other nurses. but on the other hand, male idols are praised for wearing (and even tearing) school uniforms in mvs; but doesn't that demean school-going students too?

another one is when in 2015 reportedly, Amber of f(x) was caught smoking in a club
people had divided opinions but the 'fans' who who clearly relented this idea were commenting things like " But she is in a girl group, still" or " Girl group members should not act like this"
even thought some supported her nonetheless saying things like " it is her life, she can live it however she wants"
but recently one NCT member was also caught smoking somewhere and the fans turned it into a joke like " give me a puff too"
or "atleast he won't have to smoke alone now"
i mean even though smoking is obviously bad and harmful for your health treating males and females differently is obviously something that cannot be accepted
even in india when a girl smokes people look at her weirdly and call her names and insult her but when a male does it people don't even bother

When ryujin said how people praised them by comparing them to male groups I felt so angry, like girls can dance very good too if they didn't have to wear short dresses and high heels because that's what some people expect from them. It's honestly so annoying.

I love kpop female groups but I can't stand these stupid people and their behaviours anymore. This is not being a """fan""", neither a human being. This is bullying at his lowest, mixed with misogyny, body shaming, sometimes even racism. I would like to see all these amazing and talented female artists free to be themselves, enjoying their careers and happy lives.
But no. They receive hate everytime they show strenght or - *even worse* - have a personal ✨o p i n i o n✨ about something important. The haters just don't want them to be capable of deciding by themselves or being independent in any way, they pretend dollish-girly vibes and shouted mouths.
We as fans HAVE to change this horrible circle of events. It has happened before and will continue happening if we do nothing. The industry (which DOESN'T HELP THEM AT ALL) should protect and support them, but almost pretends like nothing is wrong (a clear demonstration of how they use double standards as well).
PLS, PLS, PLS, we need SOLUTIONS! 🥺

Hwasa owned that bodysuit. I personally didn’t liked the style of it as much but the way she moved screamed confidence! And that’s what it’s about. An idol feeling herself or himself! On the other hand we often see idols being put into revealing outfits in which they seemingly feel uncomfortable and get criticized for not appearing confident. It’s just so messed up. You can’t do it right either way.
