Gotta admit... Nothing and I mean nothing beats ANALOG ARCHIVAL TAPES !😁👍🏻
Listen to the way he played the keyboards on Riders on the Storm 👍
Ray did a great job Producing the iconic album Los Angeles by X which included a cover of Soul Kitchen. He also plays on 3 tracks & Produced the excellent follow-ups Wild Gift & Under The Big Black Sky.
Ray was always so positive and quite the salesman / promoter . 😎
This is awesome. Wasn't many music legends that Dave didn't have on through the years.
He's been dead for about a decade, but it's still nice to see this.
Still nice? Lol.
I reckon in a decade more I will loathe seeing this bloke.
@@SlickBlackCadillac Okay Quiet Riot
The Beatles just put out a new song. Those 60s bands will live forever. By the way, to celebrate, how about a Ringo appearance from the show @Letterman ?
Legendary historical stuff here.
RIP Ray.
Could listen to him read the phone book. There is no replacement for the Lizard King 👑
"I am the Lizard King, I can do anything"
I wonder why he didn't want to speak further on Jim still being alive
Ray was brilliant in so many ways.
Ray was Jim's friend, so obvious it was a real friendship. To be asked about the rumor of your friend being alive, and that it's all a hoax, it can hit you right in the soul. No way would a friend make jokes about that. He didn't. It freakin' hurts to lose your buddies, especially the best of them.
Ray was a genius.
Hey Barbara, was Michael Douglas ever on the show? For some reason I'd love to see a clip of Dave interviewing Michael Douglas.
He's been gone for 10 years, thought he passed today 🤣
Did Ray come back 2 weeks later, part 2?
Nope; this was his only appearance on the show.
I forgot all about that. Thanks for the info!@@robertgoerss
@@dongillerThanks, Don!
Ray doesn’t come off well in this clip- maybe partially the annoyance of being cut short on the show, time wasted. But he seems kinda egotistical. I’ve watched a number of other clips of Ray, and he comes off certainly better- but after reading Robby’s book, Ray also seems like the type who would have rather told a good story than the truth. That said, his musical genius contributed greatly to the Doors, a highly talented musician. RIP Ray- thanks for your hand in the Doors legacy.
Yeah, Ray had a knack for storytelling! He was a natural at keeping a flow of a story going and getting everyone on the edge of their seats. Unfortunately, he often did this by embellishing reality and outright fabricating things said and done. At least he was still a decent guy - the same can't be said for Densmore. There was a reason Jim didn't like him, he didn't get along with Ray and currently Robby, too.
Was jim a decent guy from what you know?
@@villllFrom most accounts Jim was a real nice guy and had a great sense of humor. Unfortunately he was also an alcoholic and the booze did not bring out the best in him. I personally talked to his former bodyguard, Tony Funches, before he passed away, and he said Jim was a great guy.
According to Robbie Kreiger's book, Ray tended to embellish things.
New one of those Monks. Dewan Partied with him in key West 20 years ago He did not drink hope he's doing good
... the guy who wanted to continue touring as 'The Doors' long after Morrison died iirc Densmore was fighting that. If correct, that doesn't make me much of a Manzarek fan.
Love ya too Raybo
LONG LIVE RAY MANZAREK!!! M.O'B
Nobody cooler than Ray
A classy guy
I wonder what he was hiding...
Eye aversion and ' I don't subscribe to it' but maybe I shouldn't talk about it, I might get in trouble.🤔
Ray looks younger here, must be the haircut
How random is this, I was in the audience that day.
Really? Wow, very cool.
Sorry, like the video, but it's thumbs down until CZcams gets rid of ads.
Good luck with that, buy you tube premium.
I've heard that CZcams plans to get rid of ads in April of 2076.
Ads are what make youtube possible, so I guess you'll have to give a thumbs down to every video. Or you could pay a few bucks a month for youtube premium.

This must be one of a very few occasions when Dave hosted the show in casual clothing.
It seems weird to see Dave not in a suit. But, sometimes in the early days of The show he wore a rugby shirt like this.
It was a Friday
@@donaldburnet6948 They didn't tape shows on Fridays back then. Anyway, January 25, 1984 was a Wednesday.
Besides producing for X, Ray should have also produced the Spin Doctors albums. The dude always knew how to “spin” a tale. That whole story about the tapes is a WHOPPER.
Krieger touches on Ray's stories on his book, says he tended to exaggerate
How ironic that Letterman in later years would mock guests who did not dress up for his show.
Iggy & the Doors?! I love Jim, but that could have been a really cool act!
Hell yeah it would have! I feel Ol Ray would have been wrecked at this stage in his life LoL
@@goligogo923Why wrecked?
Both on Elektra
@@v-town1980 JIm was mostly internally destructive
Geez- if he wasn't cancelled, Kevin Spacey would be perfect to play Ray Manzarek. It's spooking me a bit.
No, I don't see Spacey.
I see Jon Hamm
@@thedude4672
Agreed
I see what you mean. Spacey looks very much like him. That and his personality are a much closer fit than Hamm.
Hmm does Ray no something. No comment and love ya Jim🤔🧐
I thought Eddie Vedder did a great job singing with The Doors at the rock hall of fame!
I always thought Tom Hanks could of played Ray
Huh?
Yeah, the voice quality is similar.
PHILADELPHIA USA ☦️🙏♾️🕊️🏥👻🌍🫀
Jim's not gone, he just took a taxi to Africa. Do you remember when we were in Africa?
8th and early 😊
No one cares, get a life!
hi
I feel like cocaine might have been involved here.
