Most of us admire people who put in tremendous effort to cultivate a talent that would've otherwise an occassional hobby. Not all 6'9' ppl make it to the NBA. Its the ones with excellent discipline and the luck of meeting the right agent.

I am so thankful for people like this who take time to summarize books to give you a scope of what it is about. I wished for something like this for a long time so I didn't have to spend money on something I might not find useful, plus it saves me time from starting a book I quickly lose interest in. You have a tremendous gift of summarizing and I thank you for taking your time to make these videos.

One of my favorite sayings for wrestling was , "Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard!" I KNOW this to be true! Also, loved the way you ended this video..."Think of something you have achieved or learned lately.." Light bulb moment for me! I taught myself to play the penny whistle after brain surgery (tumor) to help exercise all areas of the brain, as music is the one activity I am aware of that is is a whole brain activity. ~ Deana

A big component that goes along with grit is that of deliberate practice. Without it grit ends up being applied in less than effective ways.

I started reading a book called "Peak: Secrets from the New Science of Expertise", which talks about deliberate practice for forming mental representations of what to focus on to become an expert at any area. At the same time, I was also reading "Grit" and thought, "Oh my God, look at this beautiful combination of ideas! I can't believe it!" It's good to see a comment that linked these two great books.

Learning to stick to something is a life skill that we all can develop. Science shows that grit matter more than talent, and that we all have the capacity to grow our grit, we can develop the confidence to start taking action despite how untalented we think we are.

For decades, experts have tried to figure out who would get through Navy Seals Buds training and who would not.
Grit just rehashed the same questions asked for decades.
It all comes down to a direction and a decision and making it daily.
I'm tall and would make a great basketball player but I don't desire to be an NBA player.
Angela is only bring the questions to a new generation I'm afraid.

It's nice to see this myth disproven in the first few seconds
I know this is going to be a surprise but there have been basketball stars that weren't 6 foot and there have been basketball players that were 6 foot and no good
I wonder what the difference was, maybe talent
And at least one study "the marshmallow test have been shown to be wrong
If you are a kid and you have 5 other children in your family it doesn't matter how gritty you are being first matters and if you're really rich it doesn't matter how gritty you are
The assumption of most people that have made it in life is the way they got there is hard work but most of them were just lucky
Nobody volunteering to be a dock worker or a field hand picking food
    Real hard work

  • @BlackCulturalPreservation2023

I have an opportunity to be gritty about something that I mostly enjoy. It could be my only opportunity to have a butt-ton of money in just a few years. Then I can hire editors and marketers and comedians to help get my ideas into the world. There’s more value in it than just money; it could get me into a lot of interesting rooms. I’m just gonna start scheduling and relentlessly sticking to the schedule. I have to get all religion about the schedule or else I’ll just scroll twitter all day and message Jonathan and Bide about the TikTok’s they should make. I’m just gonna write down ideas and leave myself 1 or 2 days off from the gritty stuff when I allow myself to explore the creative ideas I wrote down that week. I’m not giving up; I’m just compartmentalizing.

What happens when you put effort without talent? Or if don't see talent as a binary agent, it's not just about you have it or not, but about how much talent do you have... if we compare 2 people putting the same amount of effort, wouldn't the most talented one win? Can you get talent through effort? Can you close the talent gap through effort?

Why did I overthink this idk.
