    I just don’t understand what Newhouse was thinking. He started the final table in 3rd place, there is $200k more prize money for 8th, then another $300k, then another $400k. These are enormous amounts of money, he should be keeping it tight and wait until until final 5 before going for it. He had the totally wrong mindset. He said in the interview afterwards when asked what’s next that he would be going back to the grind. He wouldn’t have to if he played with his brain on that final table.

      A few things. Most old poker vids the poker isn’t up to par with today’s poker. But also, WSOP ME is filled with amateurs, first timers, business men, etc. Even the actual poker players, most of them are low stakes grinders. And don’t forget, back then they also only showed highlights like these. They kinda make it seem like it’s every hand but it of course isn’t. And it’s not every hand that saw a flop or anything either.
      Just a few things to keep in mind when watching these older WSOP ME broadcasts 👍🏻

      Yeah. He has so many Jx hands and a bunch of two pair combos. Just worried about 98 and suited 43 I guess?

    • @KickStaff
      @KickStaff Před 2 měsíci

      @@seancosgrove1 it was already a sizeable pot what on earth is calling that river that called the turn??
      A pair of jacks isnt calling anymore it folds river.
      So you lose to the 98 straights AND sets like 66/77.....what do you do if you get raise bluffed??? You probably cant call with bottom set on that spot due to ICM
      the reason for that check was the exact Board. What pays you off vs what beats you
      theres more hands that beat you (98, 66, 77) than you beat (76, J7, J6....all 2 pairs) and its more likely the other player wont play trash hands like J7 and J6

    • @seancosgrove1
      @seancosgrove1 Před 2 měsíci

      The BB almost never has a set as played. Yes, all of those two pair combos are likely calling pre if suited getting 4.5:1 closing the action. So QJ is calling 2 million on the turn, but not 3 million on the river getting 4:1? "What if he bluffs?" Call.

    • @seancosgrove1
      @seancosgrove1 Před 2 měsíci +1

      @KickStaff So what is your range when you bet river? 66, 77, JJ, KK and 98s? How are you ever going to win big pots if you don't bet bottom set on the river on this board?

    • @KickStaff
      @KickStaff Před 2 měsíci

      @@seancosgrove1 after thinking it over i do agree 55 should value bet the river but it also probably has to fold to a check raise all in. Thats ICM suicide to call off and lose to the straights. Is the extra 4 million really worth the chance of losing the entire pot cause Newhouse check shoves river with 98?? The most likely outcome is he had Jx for 1 pair and folds to the 4 million river bet....so the check lost no value. In this case he had 88 so the river check lost no value. It's a super weak cautious play but it *likely* changes nothing and there are scenarios of things going VERY bad and you get pushed off the hand in this ICM spot

    Norman Chad is so ridiculous. Larrabe was just as concerned that his opponent had the Q especially when he went all in. Duhhhhh. Then the next hand against Newhouse Norm was shocked Larrabe didn't bet the river. If he would have bet it with both a jack and king showing, Newhouse would have folded anyway. Get a clue Norman.

    If it were me and I had made 9th the WSOP before. I would be playing ultra super tight until someone got out. Especially since he was 3rd in chips (or was it 4th?). I just know that would haunt me for the rest of my life, so yeah, I’m turning into a super nit until someone busts. And it seems it has been haunting Newhouse as well. A recent tweet from just before 2023 Main Event he said “…but last month of practice should help me win Main Event or at least get 8th”. Spoiler, he went out in day 3. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    • @CrazeeAdam
      @CrazeeAdam Před 2 měsíci

      Granted it seems like he was fairly tight overall. Considering what we see. And we don't see everything. But at times you just can't sit still.

    • @OJuggernautO
      @OJuggernautO Před 2 měsíci +2

      @@CrazeeAdam Yeah we don’t see all the hands, but there was no reason to go crazy with 10’s there. Like what is he even putting the opponent on that he beats or that wouldn’t call the river shove? I know he said that he thought the opponent had what he had, but that’s makes it even worse. Why risk your tournament life, especially risking getting 9th again, hoping the villain thinks you have a Jack? It just was a bizarre play imo.

    • @OneEyedJack01
      @OneEyedJack01 Před 2 měsíci +1
