My GOD where was this video 10 years ago!? FUCK! You say so much I WISH I would have known back then!
man this channel is underrated! my little bro wants to join in the '18 and imma make him sit through all your videos lol.. very detailed information
Also check the paperwork you sign right before swearing in. If they make a mistake with your job or rank and you don't catch it before you sign and swear in, then you're stuck with it.
Im the first in my family to join the military and I know absolutely nobody in the military.
I told my recruiter I wanted to be combat medical when I first met him. He told me that was cool. After I took my asvab he gave me a list of the jobs I was qualified for. He did not clarify that these were only the jobs at this time. Acted like I had to make a quick decision. I figured I must not have qualified for medic because it wasn't on the list. He gave me the whole speel of how I would receive all these bonuses. And I can't really explain how he tricked me into a 91b.
Yes...I was that girl.
Little did I know not only did I qualify, I more than qualified.
When I picked my job, there were only like 7.
Luckily my recruiter called up the rock and said "Hey what gives, this boy wants combat arms and there's nothing here"
I lucked out and got a good recruiter.
GDIrifleman Conner same here bro my recruiter pulled a rabbit out of his ass to get me 19d
Went in with my heart set on 12M. Told him that was the only way I'd sign anything. It's a very rare job to get in reserves and basically impossible for active. Things lined up perfectly when he called the rock and I got it! It's even only 30 minutes away from my home town!!! Meps in 2 days and basic on may 18 2020.
Its was good. If I could change anything, I would not have gone during a pandemic lol. Loved the fire training though. I'm from Central WA.
I got 25B too! I'm great with computers and heard that they made 6 figures in no time. With some time and luck, I did get my MOS I wanted! Very excited to start BCT in a month
Enlisted in 1956 with agreement to attend photography school. At Fort Monmouth Army tried to switch me to field radio repair. I threw a tissy
-fit. I went to photography school. Always stand up for yourself.
I love these videos. Matt you are so real. My son is in boot camp at ft. Benning and I love watching your videos is has helped me learn about the military world!!! Thank you so much !!!!!
Hey Matt I have been watching your video for the last week straight trying to watch them all. You have been giving AMAZING advice which applies so well to everyone joining the Army. I myself an joining the Army Reserves and attending my college doing a Simultaneous Membership program. which is basically I am an enlisted reserve active in a unit while attending my college full time and doing their Army ROTC with the hope of getting a full scholarship for the college. All of this advice and guidance you have been giving has really been so beneficial I think you don't realize the effect you are having on the thousands of us who watch your videos who are in the process of joining or are just looking at the option. Thank you so much you really are teaching a lot keep it up please.
just trying to pass my asvab im bad at math
Logan Green I had a low score and got asvab for dummies at book store comes with 5 practice tests online, went back 2 weeks later got a 76 and had 26 jobs available and got the job I wanted 91 b wheel mechanic and yea I have to wait till aug 29th to leave for basic because I wanted that specific job but totally worth it since ill ve doing this for years
I lucked out with a really good recruiter who made sure I got what I wanted. Went from no slots in available 19K to slots available, 3yr contract, and a $16k bonus. Leaving in 3 weeks.
Jimmy Atencio 19D now. Changed it myself. Decided I want a little boots on ground kinda feel
@@ah64longbow is there a certain score to be entitled for a bonus. He said i have to have a 50
Thank you so much for this video. I most certainly did not have my head on straight enough, but now I have a much better idea of how focused I need to be on what I want for my future!
Omg! I’m soooo glad I saw this, especially about the so called “bonus” shout out to bae for sending me this. I need a SERIOUS life change and wanted to join for a better life and more opportunities. Tired of stupid jobs I hate that aren’t what I want to do.
I originally was trying to join airforce because I'm all electronics and computers and the airforce recruiter wasn't even at his office for the month. Army recruiter came out and offered me the exact job I wanted with the $25,000 bonus cause of my ASVAB score, literally challenging the Airforce recruiter to give me a better offer and he couldn't. 25S satellite communications operator/maintainer
Austin Lee I’m going in as a 25u do you know anything about that mos I hear that 25us typically cross train with other 25 series so yea hit me back
This is the main reason why I terminated my first service. How I wish these videos were around back then. Thank you Sir.
Thank you much this was a great video
Very informative. This video was made just for me!
I chose 15T black hawk repairer. I can't wait to pass bct and ait.
So, I got really lucky and got an amazing recruiter that got me the job I wanted. I never realized that there were some recruiters that were tricking applicants into joining until I’ve seen your videos and the comments.
Special thank you to Ssg Sanmiguel
I know this is a very late comment but thank you for all the videos that you posted. My ship day is 07/08/24 I just went and reserved my MOS as a 91 bravo all wheel mechanic and I am enlisting on Monday thank you for giving me the videos to properly train, mentally, and physically for Boot Camp and beyond for my career in the military whether that’ll be 3 years or 20 years depends on how much I like being in the military
I want to go in for Cyber Security. I've been told by some that I will more likely be stationed down at Fort Gordon. Planning on talking to a veteran so he can tell me how to go about this the right way. I'm already a Graphic Designer (I have my current summer semester to finish. I'm anxious to go in now ;-; ), so having another skill with it's benefits under my belt, that'll help out even more. 12 weeks left til my summer semester ends, so in the meantime, 216 will go down to 200 or 195. Hopefully since I used my weights more often, I can get buffed up a little. Could really use it for the time when Pull Ups comes around, and especially climbing.
I've watched a lot of your videos but I just found this one. I'm happy that I have found it earlier this year I went to talk to a recruiter to hopeful find out a little more about the mos that I know I want but he didn't really wanna talk to me after helping my bf at the time whose already in the military and just kind of told me it's difficult to do and wanted me to have other jobs that if I couldn't get 31 kilo I'd still be joining and if I had other jobs I wanted in the army then I would be worth their time .. the way he acted towards me made me shy away for a little while from a recruiter I didn't know how it was suppose to go and if I was not suppose to want the job I want. I'm not in a rush and I'm going to a different recruiter soon this time with a little more knowledge!
Thanks for doing this
Thanks a lot for this man, I really needed it. I'm signing my contract tomorrow and I didn't get to pick my job beforehand, so this is really helpful.
You have no idea how much this helped me because my recruiter is making it sound like it's easy to sign up for all of that once I'm in.
I'm leaving for BCT in 2 weeks in fort Jackson South Carolina my first choice was 68W but the AIT was too long and I would've missed my first year of college (split ops I'm a junior in high school right now) then I signed up for 11B, failed MEPS the first time so they couldn't hold that job for me... so now the only way to get in this summer was to take 92A... not bad of a job but I didn't want an office job but at least I'm in and I will be changing to 92A/ROTC in about 2 years then I will be medical so it all works out thank you for your videos
its my passion so i will do what it takes to get all phases done
When I went in to the recruiter I wanted to be a 19D cav scout. No combat arms on the list at all. Held out for a couple days and recruiter was trying to set me up with other interesting jobs and some pog jobs I considered. I wrote and signed a letter to the rock which then they "unlocked" jobs more than 90 days out. I'm through meps and I'm still glad I held out for the job I wanted.
Hey man I am getting 19D myself any certain duty stations you recommend. I am going to try to get Alaska or Germany maybe NC fort Bragg. Any tips anything I should know. Still got to get through meps of course as well.
@@jacobnovak5763 I'm out of the army now, it was fun. Embrace the suck! I ended up staying at Benning. But you could try to get ft lewis Washington, Germany, Korea, Alaska ect. They all have pros or cons. Washington is my home state it rains alot but alot less cold than Alaska and Benning is hot as hell in the summer. Unless you had it signed into your contract you'll really get no choice of your first duty station. Good luck!
I’m a 92M and I was very solid on it and I got lucky and there was a spot open
thanks for the tip. I want to join the Army and do 68M - Nutrition Care Specialist, I haven’t talked to my recruiter about jobs yet but I will soon.
All I wanted was 12m. Everyone told me it was impossible to get but I stuck to it and I got it! I’m beyond excited!
Jake Adams how did people percieve as 12m impossible? it is difficult to get into?
You took your time, held tough, and got what you wanted. Yeah! When do you leave?
PLAN ON DOING THE SAME MOS. IM GOING TO MY COLLEGE FIRE ACADEMY TO GET EXTRA EXPREINCE AND HAVE A LITTLE MORE KNOWLEDGE DURING MY TRAINING. HOW MUCH ACTION YOU SEE? ANY WILDLAND FIRE FIGHTING EXPREINCE? I PLAN ON JUST JOING USFS BUT THE MILITARY LOOKS CHALLENGING AND REWARDING.
that 25 series job was always available, they try and fill remedial jobs first.
Around 3:30 on the video if you pay attention something past behind you!! "Ghost" but any way big fan of your videos thanks for everything!!
Eminem just called, he is looking for his long lost twin brother
I completely agree with this video, I took my practice the day before I was scheduled to go to the hotel I was told multiple times I would not get 31B, the day I took the ASVAB the vacancy was open. It didn't have a bonus because it is a highly sought after MOS but you don't want to do something that you hate every single day you will not excel and be successful.
Once again, Lt. Ward brings the truth!! Do not settle for what they want to sell you. Do your research and take your time. Choosing an MOS is a long-term deal. Put your foot down and your chin forward, and do not settle for the bonus. BTW, the job you want could be in a different branch. Take great care...
@thelonewolf9216 We have six separate branches in the American military if you include the Space Force. They all have similar jobs, but the choices are so varied that what you choose may have nothing to do with what you are looking for in a career field. Do not take anybody's word as gospel. In the not-too-distant past, the information needed to make an informed decision was, to say the least, highly restricted. Today, the data is literally everywhere. You can find what you are looking for if you do your research. One more thing: the difference between civilian life and military service is a mind numbing experience.
Just signed up as a 12N, horizontal construction lol. I leave March 17 to Fort Leonard Wood
I did something similar to you Matt. When I walked into my recruiter’s office with two jobs in mind. I wanted either 81B or 15T, going into The ASVAB I knew what the requirements were to qualify for my jobs. I finished my testing. I was told I qualified for my jobs, but they were not available. My recruiter continued to try to push other jobs. After about 30 minutes of saying no to other jobs, He made a phone and got me the job I wanted with quick ship available and double the bonus which was a nice add on. I really appreciate all the videos on the Do’s and Don’ts they have been great insight preparing for BCT. I ship on 1/22 to Fort Leonard Wood for BCT. Thank you again for your service and everything you are doing to help future soldiers like myself and others prepare for BCT.
I mistyped the first MOS I was referring too, the actual MOS code is 91B not 81B
I was originally going into the army for 31B (Military police) but because of my asvab they talked about flying a drone for survalence. It sounded amazing and so I chose that one. I leave in 200 days.
signed 19D first try no hassle at all that was my top pick
I think you are absolutely correct, the one issue is: I wanted to be a 19 D( Cav Scout) and I have a MINOR color deficiency so that knocked me out of a lot of jobs, so I ended up having to go with my third option. Sometimes you have to just roll with the punches
I just now see this video after joining the army and already swear in with job in hand. This would have been golden advice, but too late now, got a job as motor transport op. I dont hate the job I have selected but this sure wouldve been helpful know beforehand.
do well on your ASVAB and if you stick to your job choice your recruiter will be much more willing to make some calls to get you in if you’re someone that is worth the effort even if you don’t do well but still qualify for what you want just play it hard nosed and don’t settle especially right now they need a ton of people in general
I have no interest in joining, but I really like watching these vids. Very educational
youre such a nice person
I had no idea that availability changed on a daily basis, you may have just saved the next few years of my life
You should do top things list
I'm gonna hopefully be doing Reserves while taking ROTC. Hoping to get 46Q.
Man so honest
Prior service veteran, here. Your first priority (MUST) choose the job that you are most interested in! You will excel, succeed, and prosper. When reenlistment approaches, you will be notified by your current command as to whether you are eligible for changing jobs (MOS), what bonuses (SRB) are available, and related training (AIT) is offered. In my experience, at four years in as E-5 (SGT), I was eligible for becoming a Warrant Officer to fly helicopters (1988) with no bonus. However, if I stayed in my current position I was eligible for $20,000 SRB at 6 year re-up. Since I loved my job, reenlisted for six years, received $10,000 check at signing and $2,000 every anniversary after that.
Richard Beers I have a question. Hypothectically does the military pay, say, a $10,000 bonus all at, once meaning the total amount of the bonus, $10,000? Or does the military only pay the bonus in small amounts?
Honestly, I bet your preferred MOS was already available on the first day you were there but they probably needed the other MOS more urgently. When they saw you didn't bite, they gave you what you really wanted.
I could not agree with Matt more strongly. When I was a senior in high school, I wanted to be a computer programmer, but I sucked at school and didn't want to go to college. At the time, the Army had the 74F MOS, which was a Programmer Analyst (now it is 25B). I took their practice ASVAB and scored real well, but they still told me they didn't have any slots open, and tried to steer me into becoming an air traffic controller. I told them to call me when a slot opened up. They convinced me to take the real ASVAB, and the very next day a slot magically opened up. BTW --- *study for the ASVAB* the better you do on that test the more doors that open up. Joining the Army was one of the best decisions I ever made.
Wow this may be the most useful video ever, I wish this was out in 2013... it would of really made my life different
I didn't take the first 2 jobs that were offered me. I'm on the west coast so my recuiter and I both woke up at 6 am to get the first jobs on for the day, and the job I wanted was available. It shows that some recruiters are actually trying to help you more than forcing you into a job you don't want.
Had 30 different jobs open for me I wanted 12b then at MEPS discovered I was r/g colorblind they gave me 13b
later a r/g color blind combat engineer marine had a very lovely chat with me
am just happy am in tho 😊
Thanks for the info..... Can i ask you a question? Can you do something on the jobs in the military because i have no clue what jobs they have available...... i really want to join the army but have no clue where to start, thank you for the vid
Oh so you work to earn your bonus that's quite good actually in England you get a similar bonus to just keep you going maybe if you earn it or what ever they don't reallly tell you about it but they will give u a bonus at the end of your term and if your re-sign up
I went in and got 19D😂 super happy about it.
I'm leaving on Feb 1st and i got infantry because they lowered the score temporarily. I always wanted to do infantry so no loss. I hate being still for too long, like hours long.
I wanted this certain job so bad, but the only reason why i couldn’t get it is because it was located far from my home to go to the monthly training
I now realized that is what my recruiter did. He sweet talked me into doing 13 juliet with airborne, which dont get me wrong, im pretty sure i will like, but it wasnt my first choice.
I did the same thing, and he didn’t even tell me about airborne. I’m stuck with it now.
I wanted 91lima I took 12november but I’m ok with it because it’s still in the construction equipment side which is what I wanted you can always switch down the road especially if they need u
Was really wanting airborne, but couldn't do it or infantry due to my hearing waiver. Hoping the rumors are true and that I can go airborne later on in AIT.
Can you request a particular Div. ? My brother wants "10th mountain div." He has decided on 11Bravo .....BTW great videos my brother watches them everyday over and over
Awesome instruction. If you’re qualified, then don’t accept anything less than what you want. Don’t look for the money bonuses, look for the career you want first. All the services are churning for recruits that aren’t necessarily passionate in their field of expertise. There are a lot of specialties that you can chose from. Do the research before you commit. 26 year veteran. Your opportunities are plentiful.
I scored a 33 on the asvab and got a couple different options sadly I chose MP, I didn’t really care what my MOS is in my opinion as long as I was in the army I was okay. Wish I would have chose logistics tho, that’s what interest me even tho it don’t sound appealing to anyone else .
cool. im interested in joining. great info. i want a medical job and have narrowed it to 68c or 68w. hopefully those jobs arent hard to come by
guitarnoob135 I got myself enlisted into 68W and I'll be leaving soon. from what I seen and hear from other 68w, they very Much enjoy there jobs
guitarnoob135 This is a late reply Buttt bruh a 68c AIT IS 52 weeks!!! Hellllnawwwww
Oh dude that’s awesome I took my PICAT I got 25B in the company I wanted it to be in!
My dad told me the same thing the other day. He did something on the planes with parachutes. I’m not sure what it’s called.
ayyyeee 25b represent!!!
My recruiter tricked me into going into MOS 11B. I wanted 91F (Small Arms Repair)...
Thank you so much for this.. I'm in a pretty desperate situation & I don't want to grab any job just to ship in 30 days. (Quick ship bonus). I'm really interested in 25v. Looks like I should wait a bit. I would of went 11b in an instant but.. I'm having 2nd thoughts.
I want to do infantry and I got that Job easily and my recruiter was in Infantry himself so he was all for it.
I went in wanting 25v. All 25 slots but 25v was available. Talked to two recruiting stations and none of them have ever sent a guy out with 25v. I never thought that would’ve been a unicorn job. Turns out a slot opened up by luck and my recruiter reserved it. It’s a 6yr active duty contract w/ 0 bonuses. It’s what I want to do and I already have civilian experiences so I’m not too worried. All this happened in a span of 2weeks. I go to Meps next week and ship out a month later
Nice nice nice. U were also a 25B? Thats the MOS im shipping for
thanks buddy very informational heres what i want to do ...i want to be a green beret ..i know i will have to qaulify for that but maybe you can guide me in the right direction
TheNomadicInterceptor SF is a big commitment to start if you aren't ready. Something you should keep in mind is with SF if you don't make it past selection the army just puts you in whatever job they need. So you need to be much more prepared and fit than others. Other than that, if you want to be SF then go for it. Just go for it with all you've got!
Shootemup89 thanks brother and i have been training for a while as long as your heart and mind and body are with it i believe it can be accomplished i know tge little games that will weed people out such as when the DI says its only been an hour and we have only started and you all are giving up ...its to male you think how long can i put up with this causing you to quit and you have to keep it together and dont give in ...im mentaly prepared im just working my body in shape and have been for months. Boot camp should push me further in getting my body well rounded then SF comes next im sure so by that point i should be ready for it . I will try and help the guys in there because its alot les strenuous for us all to pick up a 1000 pound log than it is when the guys are droping like flys in that patcular activity and the main goal is team work without it things become very hard on ones body ..i notice most guys wont even talk to there men on there sqaud in a paticular activity im not sure if its allowed but i have alot of leader ship qaulities and i plan to use them in benifit ..everyone gets that chance but if i see a flaw it will be brought up immediately to my team . It defenatly will be one of the hardest things i have ever done in my life but its worth it. Cant get to heaven without going through hell first . I also have a question about height do they seperate people by height because i can imagine it would be hard to lift a 1000 pound log with several guys who are taller ..i would have to work double almost because the weight would be distributing downwords towards the smallest guy im about 60 inches so i cant find tgis anywhere on the internet .I know this wasnt your feild and i apreciate anything you know in the general sense on how they would balance the height difference. Thank you again for assisting me.
My brother wanted AF tacp but the recruiter convinced him to go security forces because he did exactly what you said they do lol
I waited about a month for my mos but I did eventually get it
Thanks again for the tips. Right now I'm a bit undecided and conflicted as to what mos I should pick. In all honesty I want to go 12b,13b, or go in as a tanker. Anything combat related really.
However I know that I should pick something that will benefit me outside of the military once I'm done with my contract. In which I have little to no idea what I want with that. It's probably just the pride of being a warrior in combat that's blinding me. Just sharing, if you have any tips then that'd be much appreciated. If not that's alright too, it'll just be something I'll have to figure out if I'm going to be joining.
Lukasblade2 it'll be hard for me to tell you what job to pick. Like you said, that's something for you to figure out. Just go with your gut. Which one do you have the most interest in. I would look at other jobs in the same series like 13F or whatever. My brother is a 13F and we may talk a bit about 13B in our videos coming up.
I initially wanted to do 88M but it wasnt open so i chose 88N which is the managment side of 88M.
I think I got a good recruiter bc I didn’t know what I wanted but I told him about my goal of being in the FBI and I was interested in the intelligences field and he shows me 35M Human intelligences collector which is a great job for me to do just has a long ait of 18 weeks.
i should have watch this before I pick my mos
I’m planning to enlist as a 91 b next year when I turn 17 all I need to do is take the asvab
I want to be a Military Police Officer. I will re due my ASVAB as many times as I have to in order to do what I want to do.
I definitely picked mine for the bonud he is right its not worth it but hes wrong on the bonus part if you gwt a 10000 bonus they pay that straight out but it is taxed anything over that is when they start paying you quarterly. Granted my job isn't bad its just not the one I wanted.
thank u for information, my recruiter tried to get me in 88m, they said that is the only job available for me. im glad i didnt pick that job, i will tell them keep checking for the job i want
anh trinh yeah, just go back in and just be upfront with them that you aren't going to do a job that you don't like and you will just check back each week. Maybe try a different recruiter. You never know
Hey, Thank you for the video. I have a question. Do you know anything about 92mikes
I wanted a medic job and I did my asvab and my physical. All I had left to do was sign my contract, but they didn't have any 68w's available. I told the recruiter I would check with the Navy and if nothing came up I would be back later. Sure enough an hour and a half later he called me to tell me they had a medic job available for me 😂.
Almost signed my life away as a 12b. Idk what divine intervention there was but when I was at MEPS the man looked up 25b for me (what I originally wanted) and asked “are you sure this is the job you wanted for 8 years?” 25b strong brother shipping out the 19 of this February
I wanted to be 11b but nothing was available so i went 13f. go to meps monday and if thst goes good i ship out October super nervous but excited.
Hey Matt. I’m going through this process right now and I’m 100% set on 89D EOD but I’ve been told it rarely comes up. I have a couple back ups but the biggest back up I have is 35N signal intel analyst what do you think I should do. I have watched a multitude of your videos recently just watching and trying to figure out what to expect but I’m in a conundrum with choosing what MOS I want if I can’t get 89D.
question: you wanted to be 25B, but when you join ROTC they remove you from that specific MOS...and they put you where they want you. were you able to get back to 25B where you wanted? or are they going to move you as soon as you commission? my question may be improperly founded...I am trying to figure it all out because i am doing exactly what you were going through. I am just 3yrs behind you.
even military drivers have bonuses
Hi, after thinking about joining the reserves forever, I finally made up my mind after watching your videos.... (Your super encouraging, sometimes lots of us are our own worst enemy with self soubt and whatnot.) Do you know what the max age is to join? Some sights say 35, some 39, 40 even 42. I dont want to bother going to a recruiter if Im not eligible right off the bat cause of my age. Keep up the great work and congrats.
Anna T thanks so much!!! And the actual answer is 35. The only exceptions are when you have previous active duty service in any branch. Those years get subtracted from your age and if that's less than 35 they can join. Unless that's changed in the past year that's the answer.
I got 19d going to MEPS in two days a little nervous cuz I wanna do something very hooah with a good chance of seeing combat and from what I heard 19d try’s to avoid combat hence the “scout” but stay the course and well see
Justin Walton well cav isn't a bad job if you get assigned to a infantry unit you'll likely see combat.
When in military do you have to be aware of a surprise attack or will you be okay?
Taking my dad with me, he use to be a recruiter, he knows all the tricks and such
Good thing to do
Really ? You are trying to get into grown up work and take your dad ? Oh please... Now i don´t live in the US OC but i won´t hire anyone that has his dad or mom in tow. I am not running a kindergarten.
And ? If you need your daddy there you proberbly still have some growing up to do before you can come play with adults. Of course that si precisely why militaries are so interested in kids that age BECAUSE they are not experienced yet and literally their brains and minds are not yet fully developed/matured. Indoctrination tricks do not work as well on a mind that has been around and a fully grown brain. But picture this we are looking to hire a few new welders at our place specificly we want a few seasoned guy´s and a few beginners. Now i realize a 20 year old kid doesn´t know it all yet but any half decent company will be willing to put in the efort to train up tomorrow´s master craftsmen. But him or her taking mommy along because mom used to weld as well....yeah not going too happen.
I'll be taking my dad with me only when I sign the contract my dad worked with recruiters and he knows the tricks always read the contract and make sure everything you and your recruiter agreed on is written in the contract some of my friends had that happen when the recruiter left out some things they agreed on and they ended up without their bonus or without airborne school
Unless you live in the US and deal with Army Recruiters on a constant basis, Don't talk like you're an expert. My recruiter got me to do Infantry. I don't really want to be infantry.
