Ball python with severe neurological issues "hunting" - A test of his abilities

- I got him from a breeder, and trying to get him strong enough to eat on his own. So far, no go, but his sister just took her first. So I have hope. This was a test of how serious his neurological issues were. An assessment of his abilities, and whether he could possibly thrive on his own. Unfortunately, he did not pass any of those tests, and was humanely euthanized shortly afterwards.
The mouse: “You good bro?”
Mania 😂😂 I feel bad 😢
Fr the mouse is like look at this dumb fuck over here 😂 I’m going to hell fasho
That's so, so sad... Poor snake
Allen J. 😂
I love all animals too much to feed snakes live prey instead I’ll just use frozen thawed 😂
Poor guy. He's doing the best he can with what he's got. The spider gene is really torture for them.
Yup, and can even make them wrap around themselves.
People honestly are dumb and do things for money, money is the driving cost for their inevitable downfall. Once they don't make money, they'll throw them and focus on something else.
I get having money can grat you a lot, but breeding an animal with a neurological disorder and then lie saying "It's a funny gimmick!" But in reality it makes them thin if they aren't hand fed. People genuinely think anything that acts dumb is cute. Well.. For the snake it's suffering, it can't eats it's prey normally, the breeders are money hogs who only care about money and not the animals. You can care about money and animals, but if it's ONLY money, it becomes a problem.
In perspective, image your a snake. You lung at a mouse and bang your head on the glass, your owner films you and says "aww, you're so dumb! Hehe" Not knowing you PHYSICALLY can't eat it without hurting yourself, every time you BEND you hit your head, causing more pain.
I honestly hate people who buy animals and don't do research
@@Nast_05 what’s the spider gene
@@niacoleman8602 It changes the pattern on the ball python but sadly it sometimes comes with "wobble" which is the neurological problem this snake has.
@@makenzismith8068 🥺
My friend got one with the gene (could tell by the pattern) and I told her before she got it that it might have a hard time eating. To my shock he didn’t have the wobble at all, just missed his strikes every once in a while
I don’t know much about snakes but I can’t imagine he’s enjoying life
Right, why not put it down? It looks miserable.
Why people still breed this morph of ball python is just pure animal abuse. Some people think it’s cute. It’s straight up abuse. They can’t tell what’s up and what’s down, it’s like playing on an inverted game but for your whole life. People know spider balls come out with neurological problems but they breed them anyway because they are worth a lot of money.
@@bamallama Some people are sick and have to help something. That’s where these snakes come in to make them feel like they’re doing something good for everyone else to see. Meanwhile.... lol
@@SilverXTikal people get them because they think the head wobble and the corkscrew is cute. They say “awe look at it wobbling it’s head”. Not all ball pythons with the spider gene are as bad as this one but when you breed them you are going to get some like this.
@@bamallama they’re sick people xP so it’s more possible with breeding by humans than in nature?
The mouse bouta just crawl in that mouth cus he feels so bad
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
💀💀💀.
Lmao
@MrBig Dick y’all really love that word
Lol... I feel really bad tho T.T
...and this is why they will slowly be phased out. No design/pattern on a snake is truly worth the risks of having neurological disorders.
People are probably going to keep ignoring it, sadly. There are all of these ignorant new people who know nothing about bps and the spider's neurological issue is almost kept a secret. So ignorant first time owners will get the prettiest snake they see without knowing because people keep it a secret because spider ball pythons make money. That's the bottom line. No one cares about these animals, they just care about money. I wish what you said is going to happen, but I fear that this will not be going away easily.
@@siruswildes8384 I agree..if there is any change at all it will be a slow uphill battle. In 2017, the IHS decided to ban the sale or collection of spider ball pythons at any of their events. Also, they banned jaguar carpet pythons and enigma leopard geckos, which have similar issues. At the same time, the FBH (Federation of British Herpetologists) took the same decision. It took effect in 2018. It's a positive sign in the right direction at the least.
@@theothermother70 breaks my heart that WE did this....sometimes, playing god isnt something we should do....
Why would anyone want a retarded snake?
So true, couldn't agree more
This is why I'll never own a ball python with the spider gene

You know its bad when the mouse isn't even worried...
Weirdly enough, they virtually never are.
Thank you for trying to help him out :) it saddens me that people are so sick to breed them with neurological disorders.
I do my best for all the animals that enter my care. Thanks
You can't really breed out neuro problems the best thing to stop snakes with bad neuro disorders is just not to breed that morph and breed similar looking ones that don't have neuro issues
lunarsnek _217 yes and no. According to some of my breeder friends Some combinations lessen the effects, some increase it. So most are trying to find the balance
@@ToddTheSnakeMan that's cool but I personally don't want to buy a snake with spider genes, even without neurological issues, cause I don't want to encourage breeding spiders by throwing money at the problem. If there's a possibility that they get reliably healthy snakes that would be great, but I would rather we just stop searching for something that might not exist and keep hurting snakes along the way... Like, there are thousands of other great looking morphs that aren't cruel to the snake. Maybe just breed those instead
Idk that's just my opinion
Madeline R even so, this one doesn’t at least according to the breeder card, even have spider in it. Super pastel harlequin orange dream yellow belly.
It can happen anytime, this is super extreme, and something else was wrong with it. It was twice as long, and super skinny compared to a normal ball baby

@@Prashant-xl1rv actually they can. Due to slow metabolism it just takes a while for them to feel pain.

Just made me feel bad and sad
Sorry about that. It is something people need to know, when breeding. Stuff happens, people are born with similar issues to a lot of the animals I take in. But I do my best to help them thrive.
I wanted to show my mom examples of breeds existing (*being bred) despite the long standing health issues associated with said breed, and the most glaring example was the spider ball python unfortunately.
Aside from pugs (lots of respiratory issues from what I’ve gathered), I can’t think of any other off the top of my head.
@@smallandstressed2364 here's a few other examples if you want to know more. Bulldogs have similar issues to pugs, plus they usually get heart problems. As for other examples in dogs, Great Danes have much shorter life spans thanks to certain issues they have, and there are German Shepherds bred with hips that lead them to get crippling joint problems. Tea cup breeds I've heard have pretty bad problems, but I can't quite remember what those are...
Also, super cinnamon and (I think) black pastel ball pythons often are born with spinal kinks, some of which make the snake surviving impossible. There are a few other morphs in ball pythons with the same issue as spider, but the only two I can think of off the top of my head are woma and champagne. Most people say spiders have the worst problems, but my woma ball python is worse then some spiders I've seen, so I'm a bit sceptical of that.
booglegirl MMD thanks.
And what how abaut the mouse
You really shouldn't feed snakes with severe feeding issues live mice. It's unsafe dude
This was a test to see how bad the neuro issue was. There was no "danger" involved, practically on my lap in front of me, so I could see what the response was.
@@ToddTheSnakeMan is this a common issue with snakes? why does this happen also
Wes no. It is inherent in a few of the genetic color patterns (like spider), but in most cases it is mild. However, some combinations can make it worse, and some can hide it. This was just unfortunate. Like a human kid being born blind or without an arm.
@@ToddTheSnakeMan o ok

So sad. Imagine if your quality of life was so low that you couldn’t even feed yourself if you tried.
I think those particular morphs of the pythons have neurological issues.
Its the spider gene.
For everyone saying “spider this” “spider that” it’s not just the “spider gene” that does this. It’s a mix of other genes at play with the spider, that can lead to severe neurological disorders, and mostly being all fatal shortly after being hatched. Husbandry, care, etc. all also play big parts in keeping your ball python from being stressed. My spider ball pythons I have, are all okay. The ones I have rescued showed more distress due to the husbandry they were provided with before. Now most all are doing perfect, with some others getting more TLC. Please do some research first about them before shaming an animal you’ve never worked with.🤷🏽♂️
I love how the mouse sniffed the snaked when is got close to it
I thought he had a ton of kinks down his back for a second there 😰

@@ToddTheSnakeMan damn man, that sucks, poor snake. Such a pretty snake too. I don't know much about the health part. But I have to wonder if it would be more humane to euthanize him. The only way that I would say not to, that's if he's not in any kind of pain. He looks like he is in the short video. I love animals more than I probably should. I raised an Alligator for 22 years and about 11ft ago and about 474lbs ago. I had him since he popped his little head out of the egg. It was very hard for me to donate him to a Zoo. But with my health where it is and how stupid hard it is for me to walk 50ft. He had a clean bill of health from the Zoo's veterinarian. I never seen him get sick or not want to eat. My boy Rex died 3 months after I moved him. That broke my heart and I never thought that I'd get attached to a gator. But I was wrong, cuz he was such a great animal and in the 22yrs of me having him, he probably only wanted to bite me 3 times. Once when I tried to ride on his back in the pond, then once he crawled under my shed and me dragging his but out by the tail and last, trying to get in between him and the neighbors dog. I was able to stop him that time and I warned the neighbors that he was climbing over my fence. They didn't care and Rex didn't mind eating him a couple months later. Lol. Anyway have a great day man and let me know what you end up having to do with him. Thanks.
