Lauri is a great player but he gets injured too much . Trading part of the future for an injury prone player and risking a high lottery pick next year is not worth it.
As much as I would love Lauri to pair with Wemby, Danny Ainge is gonna try his best to twist our arm into giving up a haul for him, and it wouldn't be the wisest thing for the Spurs to do that. Unless the offer for Lauri Markkanen is a REASONABLE ONE for both sides, I think we would ulitimately have to pass on him. Next year's draft should be really good, so best case scenario if you're a Spurs fan is we can potentially have 3 lottery picks: Our own pick, Atlanta's unprotected pick, and Chicago's top 10 protected pick. And then after next year's draft, that's when the Spurs can realistically start competing in the bloodbath that is the Western Conference.

Couple uncomfortable truths about trading for Lauri that Spurs fan need to hear. 1. It puts the future of Jeremy Sochan in grave danger, both play the same position and Jeremy is no where near the offensive threat Lauri is so Jeremy will see his role diminish significantly. 2. We will need to pay him, he’s on his last year of his contract and if he gets traded he will be expecting a new contract which could look like 30+ mil a year. The Spurs front office said they were going to be aggressive. That means they will give up some good things to get Markannen. You have to give up good to get good. That's just the reality. Stopping with CP3 is NOT being aggressive in the off-season. Would Markannen be a good fit with Wemby? No. He would be a GREAT fit! Don't overpay...but absolutely pay to get Markannen in a Spurs Jersey. I seriously doubt Pop asked CP3 to join the Spurs to win 30 games. I think the moves we did so far are enough. This year is still for developement. We dont need to rush anything. Chris paul will be a great mentor for our young players and hopefully our overall team Iq gets better. We will still be one of the bottom teams in the west but we will be much better(I predict 30-40 wins) the priority for us should be developing the young core and get a definitive assesement on our young players(Jeremy , vassel, castle..), so we can ; moving forward trade , draft and move people accordingly (next draft is the draft u want to actually be a bottom feeding team for ) and we can then be more aggresively in the off-season for the trades .As of now lets chill and let the season pan out and see how much our guys improved.
Let's be completely honest here. If there is any team that should be pursuing Lauri, its the timberwolves. Kat is useless in the playoffs as hes too zesty to bang down low and couldn't hit his threes. Wolves with a balling bruiser would be truly championship contenders. He is 7 years older than Wemby and doesn't fit our timeline. We are not going win now mode with a 20 year old.

Spurs should flex their trade war chest to keep other teams from joining the fray, then let the Jazz extend Markkanen. By the trade deadline the Spurs should know how the 2025 off-season is shaping up. You can then decide if your 2025 picks are going to be super valuable or not, if not pickup Markkanen. He is the rarest archetype (other than Wemby) a 7ft shooter with 50/40/90 splits. His stats and volume are essentially those of a 4th year Dirk.
I don't think people understand these two points. 1. Lauri is going to cost 4-5 first round picks (and our good ones), and Keldon and Sochan or Devin. 2. The draft next year is the strongest draft in decades, the top 10 in the draft could all be all stars. Even after the top 10 there is massive talent and opportunity like we haven't had since Wemby, and we have the potential for 4 first round picks. Why would we do this? Is Lauri that great of a player? Is bringing a minus defender to a team that is shaping up to be a defensive juggernaut really the plan? And then what? We have no picks or players to trade for upgrades and depend on Lauri and Wemby working alone? Come on this is not how the Spurs do things. You can explore a trade like this, even offer 3 picks and some salary filler. But Lauri is not Jokic, or Embiid or Luka. If we are going to spend that much, we need a top 10 player not a top 25 player

nah *CP3* was the only move they'll make. Nothing glorious, but I'm okay with that. I just hate the fact they gave up a valuable #8 pick with plenty good players (Carter, Knecht, C.Williams and many more) still available for most probably late future FRP and a pick swap... I think your analysis is wrong about the Spurs wanting to win now. CP3 was brought over to rush the rebuild. They traded away Dillingham to get a couple more 1st round draft picks. I would give up Sochan, Johnson, Collins, 1st round picks of 2025, 2027, 2030, and 2031. We would keep a solid core, and we would have enough capital to get another role player down the road.
Hopefully spurs can keep some of their picks and keldon if they decide to make the trade. Hopefully they are able to unload champagnie g league talent or Colin’s incompatibleness
I like lauri but I just think he is going to cost the spurs 2 much and there’s no guarantee he sings an extension and could just walk away. He will also push 1 of the young spurs to the bench and maybe hinder their development.

I think the moves we did so far are enough.
This year is still for developement. We dont need to rush anything. Chris paul will be a great mentor for our young players and hopefully our overall team Iq gets better. We will still be one of the bottom teams in the west but we will be much better(I predict 30-40 wins) the priority for us should be developing the young core and get a definitive assesement on our young players(Jeremy , vassel, castle..), so we can ; moving forward trade , draft and move people accordingly (next draft is the draft u want to actually be a bottom feeding team for ) and we can then be more aggresively in the off-season for the trades .As of now lets chill and let the season pan out and see how much our guys improved.

Let's be completely honest here. If there is any team that should be pursuing Lauri, its the timberwolves. Kat is useless in the playoffs as hes too zesty to bang down low and couldn't hit his threes. Wolves with a balling bruiser would be truly championship contenders. He is 7 years older than Wemby and doesn't fit our timeline. We are not going win now mode with a 20 year old.

Spurs should flex their trade war chest to keep other teams from joining the fray, then let the Jazz extend Markkanen. By the trade deadline the Spurs should know how the 2025 off-season is shaping up. You can then decide if your 2025 picks are going to be super valuable or not, if not pickup Markkanen. He is the rarest archetype (other than Wemby) a 7ft shooter with 50/40/90 splits. His stats and volume are essentially those of a 4th year Dirk.
I don't think people understand these two points. 1. Lauri is going to cost 4-5 first round picks (and our good ones), and Keldon and Sochan or Devin. 2. The draft next year is the strongest draft in decades, the top 10 in the draft could all be all stars. Even after the top 10 there is massive talent and opportunity like we haven't had since Wemby, and we have the potential for 4 first round picks. Why would we do this? Is Lauri that great of a player? Is bringing a minus defender to a team that is shaping up to be a defensive juggernaut really the plan? And then what? We have no picks or players to trade for upgrades and depend on Lauri and Wemby working alone? Come on this is not how the Spurs do things. You can explore a trade like this, even offer 3 picks and some salary filler. But Lauri is not Jokic, or Embiid or Luka. If we are going to spend that much, we need a top 10 player not a top 25 player

I think your analysis is wrong about the Spurs wanting to win now. CP3 was brought over to rush the rebuild. They traded away Dillingham to get a couple more 1st round draft picks. I would give up Sochan, Johnson, Collins, 1st round picks of 2025, 2027, 2030, and 2031. We would keep a solid core, and we would have enough capital to get another role player down the road.

Make no mistake about it, the Spurs are still a bad team, and we're in West, which in a bloodbath. Next year's draft should be really good, so best case scenario if you're a Spurs fan is we can potentially have 3 lottery picks: Our own pick, Atlanta's unprotected pick, and Chicago's top 10 protected pick.
