      Of course not. It's dangerous if you suffer from nasal blockage or congestion. It's a terrible idea, and an awful suggestion to others.

    • @laquesabe329
      @laquesabe329 Před rokem +3

      Well there are exceptions @daveg7894- so obviously this would not be for you. But for the rest of us who do not have the concerns that you spoke of, it's very interesting and seems to be quite helpful to many.

    • @BreatheAndFlow
      @BreatheAndFlow  Před rokem +6

      In this case you'll first address the nasal blockages and congestion. Flo mentions this even in the video using different techniques from yoga from our channel (sinus rinse for example and breathing exercises), in addition to looking into the handful of books that are linked in the description. This should equip you very well to clear your nasal pathways and then you're ready for experimenting further.

    I started mouth taping after reading Breathe by James Nestor. It's been 2 1/2 years and there's no going back. Quality of sleep and how I feel when I wake is night and day prior to this practice. I like the 3M Nexcare Sensitive Skin tape (blue in color), stays put throughout the night and comes off the lips without pulling.

    Glad to see you’re diversifying your channel’s content 💪🏼 a quick question, what about mouth breathing when swimming?

    • @BreatheAndFlow
      @BreatheAndFlow  Před rokem +4

      Based on the information from this video it's a no. But we can imagine inhaling through the nose while swimming (depending on the style) is difficult. This probably means that you will have to breathe through the mouth, although not ideal for this activity. Which might bring the question if humans are meant to swim anyway for much time and often, or only in certain situations. Maybe we're more meant to walk?! Just some thoughts, but if you swim and breathe through the nose for that 'training' and the rest of the day through the nose you'll be fine.

    • @szilvesztercsaszar4027
      @szilvesztercsaszar4027 Před rokem

      Please don't try breathing through your nose while swimming. That is a very bad idea. I was a swimmer for 15 years so I know what I'm talking about. Maybe backstroke but nothing else.

    I'm a natural born nose breather. During lockdown I took quite a few breath work classes that I loved and have always loved the nostril breathing we do in my live yoga classes. While I'm sure it happens, it is very rare that I ever wake up with my mouth open, and sure, I talk and sigh during waking hours, otherwise I breathe exclusively through my nose. I've actually tried mouth breathing and cannot do it! 😎 For anyone interested in James Nestor he has an excellent video on CZcams that's about 10 minutes long, with the major benefits and brief explanations for breathing and optimum health. Also, Flo, I got a Neti pot at a health fair a long time ago and love it. There was an episode on the Big Bang Theory where Amy (main character) uses one and I still remember how hard I laughed! The episode introduced Neti pots to thousands of people! 😁 Thanks so much, Flo and Bre 🌎

    Man I have been around for 3 years now and with every year you look younger:D
    I also spotted a mistake and feel obligated to pinpoint it out, since you take care of the channel and want the information as accurate as possible.
    When one nostril is more closed, the air coming in would come in faster, whereas, vice-versa: more opened means slower air income under same pressure. Follows from Bernoulli equation.

    • @BreatheAndFlow
      @BreatheAndFlow  Před rokem +1

      Interesting thought we’ll have to think about. Could you derive the equation for us here? 😂 Just kidding, thanks for pointing this out. This would assume the same amount of air comes in through both nostrils still even if one is more plugged. In that way it makes sense that the more closed one has air move in quicker but I’m in doubt it’s really the same amount of air is entering through both nostrils when they’re not evenly open. I like your thinking 🤙
