Have you tried it? 🤷🏼♂️☀️ Also take a look at the description…
Of course not. It's dangerous if you suffer from nasal blockage or congestion. It's a terrible idea, and an awful suggestion to others.
Well there are exceptions @daveg7894- so obviously this would not be for you. But for the rest of us who do not have the concerns that you spoke of, it's very interesting and seems to be quite helpful to many.
In this case you'll first address the nasal blockages and congestion. Flo mentions this even in the video using different techniques from yoga from our channel (sinus rinse for example and breathing exercises), in addition to looking into the handful of books that are linked in the description. This should equip you very well to clear your nasal pathways and then you're ready for experimenting further.
I will try this method tonight :D
instead of tape, for a future title, "I borrowed a pacifier from my son for a year. This is what happened".
I’ve been mouth taping for a couple of months and one thing I’ve found is that I find myself with my mouth shut and breathing through my nose during the day without thinking about doing it much more….. such a great tip to tape up the mouth at night, nice one guys!!👌😁👍
I have suffered from sore throats for years very frequently, and my father has been telling me for years to tape my mouth shut. I thought it was silly, but now I see a lot of sense. I'm going to start doing it today. Thank you very much for the advice, I'm sure it will help me
Hope it helps! Great job for being open to try it.
You shouldn't do it, its dangerous.
@@vsharma1747 yes, I started doing it two months ago, and I have done it every nigh. I can tell that it really helped me, I wake up felling more rested and I haven’t had a sore throat since then. ☺️
I have been doing this for years. I started to prevent snoring while my mouth hung open all night. It's made a huge difference in how rested I feel in the morning!
Fantastic. You are always on point.Funny beacuse ''Breath'' is the book I am reading these days .It helped me a lot to understand this unmaped area.I run ,sleep and practice your classes better.Thank you for all the effort you put to make this world a better place .Peace
Thank you so much for this info. Love you "breathe and flow" 💕🙏🏻
I started mouth taping after reading Breathe by James Nestor. It's been 2 1/2 years and there's no going back. Quality of sleep and how I feel when I wake is night and day prior to this practice. I like the 3M Nexcare Sensitive Skin tape (blue in color), stays put throughout the night and comes off the lips without pulling.
After 1.5-2 weeks of mouth taping I was able to train myself to breath through my nose without the tape. I no longer wake up feeling like I drank 5 gallons of alcohol the night before. It’s a game changer
Trying this tonight. Thank you Flo ❤🙏🏻
I was telling my husband about this technique and that I am going to start taping my mouth at night. He replied that if I tape it during the day also then God has answered his prayers 😳😐
Thank you for sharing these insights, & also sharing those great books to go deeper :)
Interesting. I learned two new things here from this video despite all the information I have accumulated on sleep. Thank you.
Been really meaning to try this, thanks for the heads up :)
Awesome content, just subbed! Wanted to educate myself on this matter, already ordered the tape. Nice e-drum kit by the day!
Insightful and informative as always...thank u so much😊
Thank you very much. Your videos are helping me a lot.
Going to start this thanks Flo!
I have seen this technic before, but only after seen this video I felt motivated to doing it. Yesterday was my first day doing and I plan on keep doing it for the future. Thanks!!
Yes, I am rewatching the video and also commenting about my experience.
Great you’re open to trying 🤙
Very helpful information. Thank you.
Thank you soo much for that Inspiration ❤
Thanks I've been wanting to try this.
Your such an inspiration… ❤️❤️
Thanks, this is very clear.
Definitely will check out the book recommendations! Might try the taping just to see how i sleep but knowing that I move a lot that tape might be gone quickly.
Great great video!
informative, thank you! I definetly recommend the Oxygen Advantage book. Many simple and fun exercises for unblocking your nose and breathing well!
Glad to see you’re diversifying your channel’s content 💪🏼 a quick question, what about mouth breathing when swimming?
Based on the information from this video it's a no. But we can imagine inhaling through the nose while swimming (depending on the style) is difficult. This probably means that you will have to breathe through the mouth, although not ideal for this activity. Which might bring the question if humans are meant to swim anyway for much time and often, or only in certain situations. Maybe we're more meant to walk?! Just some thoughts, but if you swim and breathe through the nose for that 'training' and the rest of the day through the nose you'll be fine.
Please don't try breathing through your nose while swimming. That is a very bad idea. I was a swimmer for 15 years so I know what I'm talking about. Maybe backstroke but nothing else.
Lovely to see other people doing it! Especially ones with a considerable influence. Any advice on convincing people in your life who really need it to take up little life changes like this?
I'm a natural born nose breather. During lockdown I took quite a few breath work classes that I loved and have always loved the nostril breathing we do in my live yoga classes. While I'm sure it happens, it is very rare that I ever wake up with my mouth open, and sure, I talk and sigh during waking hours, otherwise I breathe exclusively through my nose. I've actually tried mouth breathing and cannot do it! 😎 For anyone interested in James Nestor he has an excellent video on CZcams that's about 10 minutes long, with the major benefits and brief explanations for breathing and optimum health. Also, Flo, I got a Neti pot at a health fair a long time ago and love it. There was an episode on the Big Bang Theory where Amy (main character) uses one and I still remember how hard I laughed! The episode introduced Neti pots to thousands of people! 😁 Thanks so much, Flo and Bre 🌎
Thank you 😊 very helpful:)
I have been doing this for almost 2 years now after reading the book Breath and now can’t sleep without taping my mouth at night 😅
I'm the same! ha
Interesting! I did not know this was a thing
🙏 Thank you👌👍
thx
Man I have been around for 3 years now and with every year you look younger:D
I also spotted a mistake and feel obligated to pinpoint it out, since you take care of the channel and want the information as accurate as possible.
When one nostril is more closed, the air coming in would come in faster, whereas, vice-versa: more opened means slower air income under same pressure. Follows from Bernoulli equation.
Interesting thought we’ll have to think about. Could you derive the equation for us here? 😂 Just kidding, thanks for pointing this out. This would assume the same amount of air comes in through both nostrils still even if one is more plugged. In that way it makes sense that the more closed one has air move in quicker but I’m in doubt it’s really the same amount of air is entering through both nostrils when they’re not evenly open. I like your thinking 🤙
You made the classic mistake, Jan. Yoi thought that this narcissist would actually accept contra information. However, since you just HAD to say something, you probably are one too.
And what shall we do during massage or acupuncture when our nose gets completely blocked?🤣
Thanks for the content. My life is better since i started this.
Thanks for another informative and helpful video😊 I have tried this before and kept waking up with the tape detached. I’m going to try the tape you suggested!
Interesting ❤
Did it for a few months. Crazy dreams every night
Why did you stop?
My boyfriend does this and he’s the first man I’ve shared sleeping space with whose snoring doesn’t keep me up 😅
Warning! ⚠️ I am an ENT Doctor and I have to warn you that this can be dangerous! There are a lot of reasons e.g. allergies or deviated nasal septum that prevents you from breathing through your nose at night, so before taping your mouth shut you should go see an ENT doctor!
Besides that everything Flo says is correct and makes a lot of sense!
Haha thanks for sharing, but yes you need to be able to breathe through the nose well before you tape your mouth to force breathing through the nose 😉
I've been doing this a while, but my partner still gets disturbed because apparently I sometimes actually stop breathing, temporarily, but obviously I eventually do. Any thoughts?
Hi Flo! What about nose breathing in sauna? I find it really hard to do and in the end I usually end up with my mouth slightly open
No different than explained in this video. If it’s to challenging to do, perhaps the sauna is too much for your system? Just a thought 🙏🏽
I agree! It’s way too hot on the nose. I always breathe through my mouth too
Is there a specific or best time that one should be doing yoga?
All day, but the formal practice on the mat is best in the morning.
my partner has issues sleeping after she wake in middle of night.
what are some good wearables for monitoring sleep relevant data (she doesn’t want an i watch i already offered her one!).
Oura ring is an option bit.ly/3W9N8rN if she has trouble sleeping try to adapt all the sleep tips Flo gave.
Is that an electronic drum kit in the background?
Yes

My nose is more open than ever
What devide do you use when you sleep to gather your data?

@@BreatheAndFlow Thank you!
I’ve taped my mouth for ten years, I prefer to sleep that way. I tape my entire mouth and leave a folded tab to quick pull it off if I wake up to cough. I use gentle medical paper tape that is easy to get at the grocery store.
Amazing, true legend right there we can learn from! Thanks for sharing 🙏❤️
I’m going to go for the rabbit look at night 😊
Thats amazing, I will give it a go! I woke up often at night and reckon that I sleep with open mouth, and i am very thirsty of course...
What kind of breathwork is good to do before sleep btw?
We’ll do a video on that but for now I recommend 4-7-8 breathing 🙏🏽
The tape you recommend is no longer available….have you other recommendations please ? ☺️
I've tried this and my jaw is too powerful. After about a half hour to hour, the tape has loosened and my mouth is open. I also have obstructive sleep apnea so it also contributes to mouth breathing
Thanks for sharing! Try looking into jaw and tongue posture training, called mewing. Perhaps it helps along your journey 🙏🏽
Get a cpap, it's rhe only thing that can help sleep apnea. If you dint use a cpap it can be very dangerous for your health. I had terrible apnea for years and I finally got a cpap and it literally changed my life. I also use a chin strap to keep my jaw from collapsing. I think taping is a bad idea.
@@BreatheAndFlowcan you recommend one specially please?
Halfway through my video and I’m guessing mouth is taped because of… spider? 🕷️ 🙊
No. Rewatch the video, it’ll make it clear why.
do you ever smoke weed?
Yes, it’s good medicine if used with the right intention.
Can we do this to our partner so we can enjoy peace and quiet?
They have to consent 😂 you can suggest it…
@@BreatheAndFlow 😆
Just for a bit of English language help, I thought the title meant you slept for a year so you punished yourself by taping your mouth shut. It sort of works but maybe there’s a better way of saying what you meant 😆
What’s the better way?
“For one year, I slept with my mouth taped shut”
Just changing “for sleeping” to “to sleep” should be enough :) but yeah also maybe “I taped my mouth shut for one year to sleep” as that still has the drama haha
oh dude. it reads just fine.
@@BreatheAndFlowwhat! the way phrased it was fine!
Dude wasn't so mindful about those video edits
What do you mean exactly?
0:04 "wait one moment" and im bored. NEXT
For most of us patience is the hardest practice.
My uncle died doing this. He inhaled it at night and died in his sleep
Sorry to hear about your loss ♥️🙏🏽 much love on his journey
