      I 100% agree that a woman has the right to choose to not get pregnant in the first place. (There's a very ugly word for taking that choice from her that starts with an R.) But somewhere between that and the kid graduating from college she loses the right to choose "nope, don't want that any more". (IIRC at one point, Cal was looking to make the line de facto 30 days _after_ birth.)
      I've done the math, and it's nearly impossible to account for more than about 10% of abortions as anything other than "both parents couldn't be bothered to take basic precautions ahead of time and one of them regretted it a few weeks later". If you are willing to take "abortion as retroactive contraception" off the table, then I'd be happy to talk about what can be done for the small fraction of cases that remain.

    • @benjaminshropshire2900
      @benjaminshropshire2900 Před měsícem +3

      In the vast majority of the cases where this topic is even relevant, the topic of abortion (and the ethical questions related to it) is irrelevant. If the child has no possibility of survival, or is already dead, then there is no ethical dilemma. Even when the child has a chance of survival, if it poses a grave danger to the mother the same argument for killing in self defense or in defense of another applies. ... And all that is basically moot anyway because something more than 95% of abortions are not medically motivated by *anyone's* definition. Litigating this sort of fringe issue is never going to be satisfying to anyone because it will never address the core question.
      What really needs to happen is for the law to codify the point at which "it" become "someone" and along with that the point where "removing it" becomes "homicide", but nobody wants that because none of the options for "bright line" really match anyone's agenda (on either side) without being fundamentally impracticable.

An instance where a mother's life is threatened to the point where she needs her baby aborted Immediately to save her life is so unlikely to the extent that I've never ever been around a case of it in my 30 years of being in the medical field. It's extremely rare. extremely rare. Ridiculous. This comes down to selfishness and not wanting to be responsible with your sex lives. it's just a matter of fact that if people would slow their roll with all the casual sex, there wouldn't be all these babies that are unwanted. Besides, in my mind, a baby's life is always worth more than the adult's life. It is the natural way of being: to want to protect and save infants and children.
