2001 Chevy Silverado - ABS & Brake Lights On

  • Had a little issue with my 2001 Chevy Silverado for the last few months with my ABS & brake lights coming on randomly. The last couple months they came on pretty consistently and almost right at 1 mile or so of driving. I decided it was time to get it fixed and took the ABS module off and sent it into ABSFixer out of Missouri. They did a great job with it and quickly also. Works great again and no lights. I will update this video description if anything ever changes, but if I don't then all is good with it. I highly recommend ABSFixer for anyone that is needing their module repaired.
    Update - 03/02/2021
Drove it to work and back last night, about 50 miles round trip, without issues. Worked great and no lights at all.
    www.absfixer.net
Update: As of today, 02/03/2022, I've put a little less then 2400 miles on since this repair was done. Truck now has 69,024 miles on it. I've never had the ABS light come on again at all. Been a good repair and the truck is good to go.
Stay safe, stay healthy and most of all.....STAY GRAPE

Thank you the video was very helpful for me to do the same repair. One correction for anyone wanting to replace the screws: the correct size is M4 x 25 x 0.70. The soldering is pretty easy to do yourself if you have the equipment and a little patience.

great video. thanks for creating this! going to diagnose my lights with the ground wire first and then maybe have to send the module off if that doesn't fix it. I have an 02 Tahoe I have been fighting with for a while..ABS and service brake lights on, won't come out of second gear.. cleaned all grounds and found some missing ones.. changes vehicle speed sensor, still no speedo, lights still on and no coming out of second gear. Tested voltage to abs plugs at wheels, then tested for ohms from plug to wheel, both seem good, going to try to clean rust off wheel sensors next (think it may be in limp home mode..?) then if that don't help I will have to get lots of rust in my eyes down my shirt etc etc to try to do what you did... man pulling my hair out with this thing! I’ve got a 2000 Chevy Express Van. The van started pulling to the left so I took it in. The shop wanted $1200 to replace the front rotors, calipers, brakes. I said screw this and did that myself thinking they knew what they were talking about and had done proper trouble shooting. I paid them for their trouble. Low and behold after doing all that work including brake hoses and bearings not nary a drop of fluid came from the right side caliper. Dry as a bone. So back to the shop I go thinking it was a proportional valve. But no now it’s the ABS unit. No longer produced as a part. I know the owner for 30 years but his counter service man is lacking in personality. I could tell he did not want to deal with this van. Are you going to come get your van? Part no longer made. If you get a part and we put it on and it fails you will still have to pay us on and on and on. I found a complete but used part. I do not know how they actually work but I expect electromagnetic valving. No dash lights illuminated so I expect this is a mechanical vs electronic issue. To recap, I have pressure to all but the right front caliper. Any ideas?

My guess is you're having the same issue I had. Does your ABS and brake light come on the same time? I never priced a new module or even checked into if they are even available, but my bet is it would be more expensive then repairing it. Or maybe try a junkyard one.

But after finding problem will get new rotors but we told it wasn't bad just a layer of surface rust from not driving last two years. 😢 As much but since everyone has driven it in family wasn't sure what was going on with them. But back to abs system them line broke when tryed to take pump stuff off so got lines fixed now but still only have barely got brakes and its hard at the floor and i pressing on it so hard im was just waiting for a snapp and fly down the hill

    • @c5grapeape

If the ABS goes out, you won't have the brakes will just lock up and you won't have the pulsing that the ABS system is suppose to do. It would be like driving an older car without the ABS system. Shouldn't affect the brakes working. I don't think your problem is with the ABS system but more like you said with either the master cylinder or possibly a caliper. If you have the original rubber brake lines on it still then maybe check each one of those out. I've heard they can degrade and cause braking issues too when they get old.
