  • When the racing season is put on indefinite hold, athletes look for new challenges. There were some LONG Zwift rides this Spring performed by Pro and amateur cyclists young and old. Here is an analysis of one of them.

    That is an astonishing effort. I found your site via Dylan Johnson's channel having recently started a polarized training plan. I can already feel the benefits. Such a simple yet effective method of training. I feel great, stronger than ever and the 80% Zone 1 rides are really enjoyable. The 20% Zone 3 HIIT rides are really tough but you feel a great deal of satisfaction having completed them. Intuitively the plan makes sense.

      Hi Thomas. Just to clarify it should all work. We’re just putting the finishing touches to the current version before going out to formal testing. Thanks for sharing, this has been a good test of whether the server can handle multiple users.

    @stephen It would be very interesting to learn about his fueling strategy for this session as this might be a key aspect. i assume he understands really well what to give his body to maintain the effort and not even see the heart rate drift.

      This was stated in an article on cyclist.co.uk and you will also notice he did stop for toilet breaks - "Abrahamsen fuelled the ride with 13 energy bars (1 per hour), and 17 bottles of water-energy drink mix (50/50). He stopped to go to the toilet three times and changed his bibshorts a few times because he was sweating a lot. In the end, he burned 11,000 calories and used a lot of chamois cream."

    Miguel Indurain, a Spanish cyclist and five time Tour de France winner, had a resting heart rate of 28 beats per minute, one of the lowest ever recorded in a healthy human.

    Worth pointing out that it’s possible to edit out paused periods etc using tools such as FitFileTools if athlete had wanted to clean up data a little first. Seems fairly unlikely not stopping pedalling at all for 13 hours to take a nature break or anything so imagine this is the case. A 13hour ride is still clearly a heck of an endurance feat at any kid of intensity but just saying it *may* not have been completely continuous.

      My thoughts exactly. Some recording methods cut zeros out entirely. Also, it looks like there are some downward spikes in HR which would indicate breaks

    Are you able to tell that the athlete was or was not using erg workout mode? Does it even matter if he was?

    • @XX-is7ps
      @XX-is7ps Před 4 lety

      Isaac Young seems like ERG mode would reduce the mental strain of such an effort considerably as well as prevent you from accidentally “burning matches” or going too hard early on, if nothing else
