    - Digimon FTW
    - Big differences between the two is that in Pokemon battles are sport while in Digimon 99% of the time they're fighting for their lives (There was death quite a bit in the series). Power wise Digimon vastly outmatch majority of Pokemon and are way more intelligent.
    - The anime scenes with Red are from a special Pokemon Origins. Mainly exist to promote Gen 6

    Pokémon was inspired by bug catching and Digimon was inspired by Tamagotchis. They're really not that similar, but they're similar enough that I can see why some people would think that one of them intentionally copied the other.

      @EskChan19 Před 2 lety +76

      Not just inspired by Tamagotchis but they literally are a spin-off. They're made by the same company, and digimon was just made out of the company noticing that tamagochis are mostly popular with girls, but they wanted to make sell to boys too, so they made tamagochi, but they fight each other, to get boys interested. And that blew up so much that it spawned an empire that left tamagochi in it's shadows.

    "I though Digimon was knock off Pokemon"
    To this day it hurts to know that Digimon never got as popular as it could because of this mindset :(
    Most people never even gave it chance
    Digimon started as edgier Tamagochi that could battle, it was a pet raising simulator but with fights, the original name was V-Pets if I'm correct, and they were released about a year after Pokemon released in Japan, back in 1996, but they were just that, Tamagochi made to sell for boys since it was mostly popular with girls, never intended as a pokemon clone.
    Digimon was a pet raising game with combat.
    Pokemon was a monster collector RPG.
    However with time Digimon games evolved and now you have two variants, the RPG's where you raise a team of Digimon to battle and do quests to progress the story.
    And pet raising Digimon games where you have 1-2 Digimon that constantly grow old, die and come back with stronger stats.
    If anything, Digimon tries new concepts all the time unlike Pokemon wich in the main titles mostly stuck with what works, and honestly that's kinda ok.

Other lines such as Digimon World and the myriad of others are all vastly different games, from raising sims to dungeon crawlers to hack and slash. Pokemon has been releasing the same game with some new characters pretty much since it's inception, while you'll be hard pressed to find two Digimon games that play the same. Although, i do think the argument is valid that Digimon probably partially did try to profit off of the Pokemon hype a bit, though as said, they have differenciated themselves from one another heavily.

      @Sin_Alder Před 3 lety +3

      I mean, them not having much in common is only partially accurate. When Digimon was being thought up, it was originally being designed as "Tamagotchi but for boys", however when they saw how much Pokemon was taking off they tried to shift into a pseudo-"Pokemon Knock-Off", in the sense that they tried to change their marketing to come across as being more similar to Pokemon. Additionally, many of their products tried to mimic Pokemon more, including the toys, anime and video games. While they're still very different in a lot of ways, they absolutely tried to ride the Pokemon hype train, and it's probably fortunate they did considering Digimon is still around, meanwhile I have a feeling not many kids even know what a Tamagotchi is anymore.
      I also don't mean this to disparage Digimon either, I still quite like some of the games, but I think if they didn't try to mimic Pokemon and just resigned themselves to being an alternate Tamagotchi they wouldn't have gone on to have such a long and noteworthy legacy in gaming.

    Something to note about Digimon. Unlike the majority of Pokemon, Digimon evolution lines branch out and overlap basic in their personality and environment. The Death Battle briefly mentioned how Greymon transformed into SkullGreymon instead of MetalGreymon, but much more than "Good or Evil" forms.
    For ex: Agumon can not only grow to became Greymon, but is also became a Tyrannomon (a red dinosaur), a Meramon (a human-like guy made of fire), or a Birdramon (a giant fire bird ) And each of those have like 2 to 4 have their own evolution branches.

    Yeah, this was tough to see Charizard lose but I was always a Venusaur kid who liked Digimon. I mean this was the franchise where you could have a talking cat that became an angel... who had to have inspired Victoria's Secret Runways, rained down celestial light and got into a literal catfight with LadyDevimon lol.
    I think the franchises spoke more for what kids may want. Pokemon is about wanting to be the best and collect all these cool creatures. Digimon though was more about facing the world with a friend who you grew stronger with over time to the point the third season, Tamers, involved unlocking mega forms by having the kids combine with their partners.
    The crazy thing is that, over the last few years, Agumon has gotten even crazier in forms.
    Aside from the Omnimon digivolutions, we also have Metalgreymon''s Alterous mode, BlitzGreymon and a weird form of Machinedramon. Then there's last evolution where we see Agumon's final form which is on the same power level as Omnimon if not more.

  • @katomamundara8106
    @katomamundara8106 Před 3 lety +6

    Honestly they also undersold a few of Agumon's feats. A Champion mind you is basically equivalent to ANY fully Evolved Pokemon. At most, a LOW TIER Ultimate is equal to any Legendary in Pokemon in terms of destructive force. Agumon (the 'standard' form) by end of Season 1 could beat some Champions (Standard+1 Form) and knock around upgraded/enhanced Champions during Tri. During the OVA (the part with little kid Tai and his sister) Greymon was already capable of nuking a Parrotmon - an ULTIMATE (albeit, this isn't entirely fair as it doesn't retain this power during the series proper and the OVA was retconned into the anime canon). WarGreymon's Dramon Killers do SEVERE upgrades in damage, WarGreymon could slice through any Mega Level Dragon-type (even if they were machine based like Mugendramon/Machinedramon) with RELATIVE ease. They ain't vorpal (guaranteed kill), but the moment WarGreymon came out it was beyond overkill.
    Also, not mentioned but is canonically part of Agumon's 'evolution line', it has 2 unmentioned FURTHER Mega Forms, through Combination (Gattai) Digivolution. Omegamon/Omnimon and Omegamon Alter-S/Omnimon Alter-S, which the former contain the power to slightly read the future, the Omega/Omni inFORCE, and thus predict any of their foe's actions while drawing out his full combat potential. The later presumably has it too as it's noted to have all the capabilities of the original Omnimon. To note, it says Agumon survived fighting 1 million of a digimon (which is a Mega Level) and was lucky to take out a handfull. Omnimon wiped out hundreds of thousands of that digimon in a single swing, to give you an idea of the power difference.

      To be fair, anime was very new in the 90s to mainstream audiences. 4kids changed the theme songs to get people to watch it because it was so different from what they were used to (and sadly heavily sanitized it likely due to parental concerns and what could be shown on kids television. Xmen the animated series almost didn't air because they thought it was too adult and kids wouldn't like it which they were obviously proven wrong). So 4kids leaned heavily into 90s culture to get viewers. To their credit it worked. I remember their english openings that grabbed my attention when I was young. Unfortunately as anime grew more popular, 4Kids kept the sanitation of their properties as the real japanese versions uncut started appearing showing how much better the original content was and never realized that American kids were ready and eager to learn about other cultures and wouldn't be turned off just because the themesong was in a different language or wasn't set in America.

This was followed by a direct sequel Digimon Adventure 02 (series 2) which ran from 2000-2001, also on Fox Kids. They both also had like 4 movies. But the translators for the English dub spliced the first 3 movies (which were completely different) into one long movie and release it in theaters as Digimon The Movie. It was kind of a big deal. Digimon are fully sapient life forms with their own goals and desires, most are as smart as, or smarter than humans. Many have built societies, living in cities or towns within the digital world, and many even have jobs. They even have their own folklore and religions, featuring multiple divine figures and devils/demon lords. Talking is honestly the least impressive thing about them, most speak multiple languages.
