I can't get enough of two veena strings being played simultaneously - too good!
while adhering to grammar Sri Emani has new insights as to how to present a song touching hearts. We miss him very badly.
Sri Emani Sastry gaaru is very much alive n alive for future generations too
Very fine performance by a great Veena maestro. May his virtuosity inspire coming generations of gifted musicians to emulate him.
Very decent - appears quite devotional. Many artists make this composition attractive only for purpose of audience happiness by playing in different styles, speed etc. with less importance on devotional style. But Emani sankara sastry's touch sounds devotional which is only correct for such composition. Neither it is speed nor slow - but exactly hitting. No doubt Emani was gifted. The original composer patnam had indeed composed it from a devotional style ONLY.
It’s honey in my ears!!!
Joy and pure joy everywhere after hearing this rendering of this joyful song on the Veena by Emani Sankara Sastry! Thanks for sharing! Great performance!
It. ist my Favoriten raaga and enjoy in Verena & nadhaswaram . Espcially eamani Sakkara Sastre & karukurichi arunachalam.
This is janya ragam of sankarabaranam ragam. the arohanam is sa ri ma daa ni ga pa sa
avarohanam is sa ni da pa ma ga ri sa.
the jumping of swarams from their original position gives this ragam the exquisite beauty.
I think the name of the raga is Kathana Kuthookalam in Sanskrit which can be translated as Expression of Delight . The composition perfectly exemplifies the spirit of the raga .
Nice and melodious rendition.
Very smooth grt . Pranamams to the Veena legend sri Emani garu 🙏🏻..
I feel Kadhana is actually Kathana meaning narration and Kuthoohalam means expectant anxiety....just like u expect the ending of a thrilling novel or film...probably the the raaga envisioner was expecting a thrilling experience....
Very sweet n glorious
reminds me of my dementia mom who cannot play now... who is emani shankara sashtri shishya parambarai...
really kutuhalam regarding kadanam has entered in my heart after hearing this krithi on veena by e.s.sastry
Great musical genius.
kathana in sanskrit means "A narrative or story".. kathana kuthoohalam means "An ecstatic story" ... Indeed, after listening to Emani garu's rendition of Pattnam Subramanya Iyer's immortal masterpiece, I can attest to the kuthoohalam...
Scientific music. Keeps mind cool and calm
beautiful piece.
really kutuhalam regarding kadanam has entered in my heart after hearing this krithi on veena by e.s.sastry----eeeswar g.s.from srikakulamdist.of andhra pradesh
i think it means "desire towards rapid movement". it was meant to describe the moment of troops during the time of war when their movements are especially rapid.
very pleasing
excellent
nicely done!
Kadana Kuthoohalam is a ragam that was meant to imitate the sounds when a kingdom was preparing for war. So it is fast paced and peppy. Kadana Kuthoohalam in that context means curiosity for movement or curiosity for action.
I agree with your interpretation
🙏🙏
exceelent presentation
Il maestro.
I usually listen to Dr. Chitti Babu's music. But this is also very good!!
Dr.Chittibabu was Sankara Sastry Garu's student
Sorry, I wrote the words from their 'position'. The correct word is 'order'.
Composition is mot mentioned.
permit me my theory. kadanaa kudukkalam... meaning good enough to be pledged! #badpun #sorry
LOL!
I suppose you are correct. The other theory being floated is that it is a warcry, but it is a very karnapriya raga, the rasa being shringara. Why would soldiers want to listen to something so pleasant, relaxing and soothing before a battle.
Chitrayudh Ghatak you have a point. they should avoid all music and just focus on a warcry to the accompaniment of yuddha beri.
Chitrayudh Ghatak it's not "Kadana" means war, but it's Kadhana means narration.
Soldiers were conscious humans...
By hearing this they go to a high plane... Where they have a great focus... They are off illusions and confusion and hence they become invincible
His playing sounds "western",perhaps as Patnam intended it.
i beg to differ.... kathana means battle field. kuthuhalam means anxiety.
Yup, the vakra prayoga is extremely beautiful, gives the raga its own distinct niche. Is not there a tillana in this raga?
Chitrayudh Ghatak yes by Lalgudi as well as by Balamurali.
"kadhana" has another meaning in Telugu which would mean war/play or something such.
Yes but what does the name suggest? Like Charukeshi refers to 'beautiful locks of hair'.
What does Kadhana Kuthoohalam mean?
it is not 'kathana 'it is 'kadana 'means war or fight.'kutoohalam 'means enthusiasm or curiosity. because the song is fast paced and sounds like a marching song ,it is (raagaa)named as 'kadana kutoohalam '. -ramanarao.
Tamil s use one letter only to write da and tha they don't. Have letters enough to distinguish both so confusion
Kadana in telugu means yuddha or war. The pace, tempo suggests that this raga is " eager to go for a war.
Is that a second veena playing along with a tiny delay? Or are those overtones? It doesn't sound like overtones because there is a plucking sound too. Whatever it is, it adds to the flavour
I think u mean the talam strings which definitely gives embellishment! if not that, sometimes sir is playing double shadyam strings, means the madhya sa and manthra sa strings are plucked simultaneously!
Thank you for your reply. Do you know where I can find more music of this performer online? I've noticed that there are a very few uploads on youtube. I like his style which seems to be lyrical and sensitive.
you can search with the name Emani Shankara Sastry and Emani Kalyani (his daughter.)
Dr. Emani. brought back interest in Veena. He plays with out gimmicks.Great Maestro.
