How to Set Up a Battle Belt | War Belt | Navy SEAL | Jason Pike

- In this video Jason goes over how he sets up his Battle Belts and talks about other considerations that pertain to making your belt fully operational.
Too often people get lost in the name brands of things instead of learning how to make their gear operationally sound by fine tuning every aspect of their gear. Don't get lost in the entertainment value of things.
The goal as an operator is to become very intimate with everything you use.

20 years British military and I never get tired of telling people zip ties on gear! Good drills mate, great presentation skills. God go with you 🇺🇸🇬🇧
Expect for your TQ I’ve seen that be a real problem for some dudes 😅
i prefer one wrap as zip ties tend do break when used it freezing temps
And *GOOD* zip ties, not the *_Chi-Com_* replicas to be found at _Harbor Freight!_
I have soft armor panels zip tied to the bungee style cumber bun of my SWAT rig. Also use them to tame the plugs and wires on my Mk18. They’re one of Gods greatest inventions
@@davidmester6008I’m in Louisiana. What are freezing temps exactly?😂
I love your frank and non-condescending tone towards civilian "operators". Thanks for the advice and sharing your hard-learned lessons.
Thank you.

Agree, IMO; most of these retired Operators seem damn humble & amazing, but Jason is in a class of his own. What I'd give to buy him a beer & listen to his stories....
Thanks for the amazing content, Jason!
I learned the value of zip ties when I went on jump status. Lost a complete canteen set, canteen cup and cover because the alice clips failed when I went out of the bird. It landed 3 feet from a soldeir on the ground and he recovered it and brought to the rally point and asked if anyone had lost it. He took me off to one side and told me about using zip ties. He was a SF trooper in 3rd SF group. Needless to say the next day all my gear got zip ties as a back up to the alice clips
@frogmantactical I love zip ties idea. I did order my new belt a bit bigger in size.
Thank You!

great video, very helpfull, thank you,
Solid advice, one of the first things I was told was "find someone who sets up their gear well, and copy them".

@@frogmantactical Sounds daft I know, but I'd never considered the idea of dummy cording my gear with cable ties, I've set up a day pack for hiking today and i've done just that, thanks again.
I found your channel a couple years back ever since I've took heed to what your saying I take it as a personal trainer from a Navy SEAL. I can honestly say you got me to high speed my discipline with the rifle and pistol is amazing skill level went from 1 to about a 9 in two years. Also Ronin has helped me out a lot also 💪 thanks brother ‼️
Very solid recommendations. As always, I learned a few things and got a few ideas to improve my set up. Thank you for taking the time to make the video!
Thank you for the words.
Have a great night and God bless.
Thanks Brother for taking the time to show and train us up in something that some would not even think about. It's the small stuff that makes the biggest difference when SHTF. GOD Bless!
I just subscribed and to be honest I did it primarily because you're a southpaw, like myself (also fellow shipmate). It's nice to see another Lefty giving instruction and training. Right handed people just don't understand the differences. It is weird though how a left-handed person watching a left-handed person still seems like everything is backward, we get so conditioned to a right-handed world. Thank you for your service to the country and for providing this content.
Thanks for the support.
Have a great day and God bless.
I find my problem is I am right handed. So my pistol is always on my right but I shoot rifle on left. So spacing of rifle mags on both sides of pistol is always wierd for Me. I may just go to 1 rifle Mag like yours.

I learned a lot and appreciate the effort you put into making these vids. It's really nice to not be talked down to for wanting to be prepared. We all have different skills and I appreciate you passing on your experience. Thank you for everything.
I appreciate all of the information that you shared with us in this video, along with the humility and honesty with which you delivered it. Most other videos that are out there are mostly too vague and rushed in the delivery and value of the lesson and information. Keep up the great work. 🇺🇲👍
Thank you for the words.

Thank you for your service to our country! 🇺🇸💪 Good tips. My son and I compete in USPSA pistol matches and having your gear set up takes lots of tweaking and time. Having gear that will stay in position is a major component. Competitions get us acquainted with our gear in time sensitive scenarios, it's a great training method.
Love these videos. I can’t say that I’ve ever learned a great deal, most of it aligns with what I know from my time in uniform. But the direct and to the point approach is refreshing and enjoyable to watch. I don’t know why you popped up in my feed recently but I’m glad you did.
Thank you for taking the time out to help this channel grow even though you already know the material.

Very good presentation. Thank you! I really like your willingness to share your experiences from the field. These insights are invaluable.
Great video. 👍 Really like your explanation of how you install your gear onto your belt. Most importantly thank you for your service to our country. God bless you.

I like the the video it was straight to the point. I like the fine-tuning of your explanations and the variables that one needs to deal with while training to find what is best for an individual body and operation with fine-tuning with equipment as needed.

KISS. I like your set up and appreciate you taking time to show it. I use 2 methods of securing my gear to my belt which is similar to yours, but a G-Code belt. If I don’t have molle straps I use 1” velcro strap to secure the pouch to my belt. If the pouch has an attachment system or molle straps I back it up with zip ties. I’ve found that the 1” velcro I get from OC Tactical can take a whole lot of abuse and if you loop it through the PALS on the pouch and the belt it secures it extremely tight. I hate my kit moving or rattling. Thanks again Frogman.
Can’t thank you enough for this vid. I have been researching this set up since moving west where I can own guns again and even manufacturer’s vids were sorely lack in the details you provide (like at 1:05). Much appreciated.

I remember the frog kick swimming video and its amazing how studying nature can help us survive.
Some awesome tips. Somethings I have never thought of. I am just getting into the use of a battle belt to use for duty. Was using a duty belt for 20 years then went to a load bearing vest so I was using a drop leg on a ZAK tool clip on a belt.
Now I am going to try adding a battle belt and a couple more things to the belt.
One thing I would suggest, the Safariland land belt look is made to run the belt to the back of the large portion, not the front. May make it a little more comfortable, and easier to Mount.
Thank you for your service Sir. As a military “brat” who`s father was a Lt.Cmdr. With Sea Bees we spent many tours stationed at Charleston Naval Weapons Station in SC where we had great memories running the PT fields, shooting, and martial arts training with the Teams and Marines when we lived on base. We were always taught if your going to do it then do it right. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with all of us
And Thank you for your service. I remember most when I was 11 we were practicing “slash and cut” knife training with them and after two weeks were moving off base and went to say goodbye to them. They told us there was another thing the knife was used for so eager to learn we asked them to show us - then they gave us a hair cut -
You’re welcome. That’s awesome memories for sure.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
You know the old saying: "If you only have one, you have none." It's crucial to have fail-safes and backups for your gear to ensure it's available when you need it.

Great video. Bob Ross of tactical gear .
Was a corpsman and used my belt to put my medical stuff , made it easier for when we had casualties to just unsnap the belt and lay it next to the casualty , way better than wearing a big ass med bag in the Afghan heat

This is an awesome vid! Excellent tips. I've read / heard a few little tidbits about being very careful to use dummy / shock cord & attach gear to yourself, unless you'd rather lose it. This is a great idea & I'll be sure to implement. Just be sure you keep a little pair of diagonal pliers / wirecutters with your kit so you can remove them when you need to! :-D
Outstanding presentation. Thanks.

I like the idea of using a stackable AR pouch....👍🏻
great video. learned a lot. thanks for posting.

I know I'm 2 years late but yeah I work as a security guard. Most of the time I don't carry a weapon but I have it in my car. No one in my company has ever covered setting up a duty belt. Most of the time people just hook stuff to their Sunday belt ad call it good. So you bet your ass I forced myself to watched you set up a belt. Best info I have gotten in weeks.
Very informative thank you for the video
You’re welcome.
Have a great day and God bless.
Great video. One tip I use is nail clippers to trim the zip ties close to the head. The curved edge rounds off the end ot the tie.
Wow, throwing mags down your shirt. What a blast from the past. That is legit. Newer kids need to remember lessons learned by the OGs
Very helpful and clear. Thanks!
You’re welcome.
Have a great day and God bless.
Haha, I never threw my mags down my shirt. What a great idea. But then again, my primary weapon was not my CAR-15/GAU-5 (yes, I'm old), it was my radio. Bringing in close air support was much more enjoyable and much more a crowd pleaser. I think we've all been there but the primary thing that went into my shirt was the hot brass from the guy next to me, lol.
The belts I have seen I wouldn't dare trust for rappelling. Too many are plastic which you pointed out. I wore one for years in my career as a firefighter while on duty. They were NFPA rated and the buckle and D-ring were solid metal. Later in my career we were issued NFPA rated Class 2 harnesses that were attached to our protective clothing. This was much more practical as if we needed to rappel or bail-out, we were most likely wearing our firefighting gear. I still have my harness attached to my gear with the local department I still run with since my retirement. As you mentioned OSHA, a belt with a D-ring is only considered a positioning device and not a harness. Harnesses (Class 3, Full Body) are required when fall protection is necessary. A belt is to keep you from falling, a harness is designed to catch and protect you if you do fall.
Good info as always.
Thank you.
Be blessed.
I'm no high speed operator by any stretch, I'm just a dad who loves his kids and his country and wants them both to be safe. I really appreciate these pro tips, I like to listen and learn by masters of their craft. I'm a former tour de France level bike mechanic and I work for an American bicycle manufacturer. I use toe nail clippers in zip ties, the bicycles I deal with are commonly $12-20 thousand dollar race bikes with no room for error. I've found that nail clippers are cheap and allow for a great level of precision and no risk of cutting yourself or scratching whatever you're working on. Thank you for being awesome!!
That’s crazy. Use what works best 😂.

I like your style dude.
You might want to consider including even a small pair of side cutters also called diagonal cutters to your kit. I take a good sized pair everywhere. They are particularly useful when cutting zip ties even though they are a tool targeted toward snipping wire.

Sir, I just wanted to tell you that your words and demeanor identity you as being a Christian man. I can’t think of a better quality to have as a man today in this crazy world where what use to be right is now wrong and what was wrong is now right in the worlds eyes. Stay who you are, but most importantly stay true to God, that’s all a man needs to do and the rest will fall in place. I say this after spending the last 24 years of my life in law enforcement and having been part of tactical teams during my career. It wasn’t always easy being a Christian in a messed up society.

watching you do this reminds me of Band of Brothers when they are getting their gear ready for the raid across the river and they are trying to reduce the noise of their gear. I've always wondered what they would have come up with if they had some of the modern nick-nacks to use.

Great video, as always. Side note, Finger nail clippers or the larger Toe nail clippers, work great for cutting zip ties nice and close. As well as in tight to reach places.

During my military time movement, simply equated to noise, but when I got out I became a police officer, and my pistol absolutely had to be in the exact right spot, and in turn, my speed loaders, handcuffs, flashlight ring and baton ring would line up so that I wasn't fumbling for whatever. Safariland had just come out with a leather velcro duty belt system yet I still used belt keepers just to keep things as tight as possible, so I hear ya brother. - Godspeed

Great video, great tips 👍
For the cobra buckle: while known since the ancient Rome (they used it to quickly&securly fasten/release their helmets),
the Cobra buckles known now, were inventend and patended by Andy Hortnagl of Austriaalpin (as you'd might guess, an Austrian company).
Primarily a dedicated climbing gear manufacturer (hence the reason for the "alpine" in the name).
And they do build those, only and exlusively, here in Austria - and nowhere else.
In flight securing to aircraft (esp. helicopters), attaching stuff (e.g. equipment/bags while jumping from aircraft) is the primary use of the D ring.
Repelling in emergency situations really just as a last resort option - as the OG cobra buckle can handle it, but the belt itself (more often than not), can not handle it as mentioned in the video.
And yes, the world is flooded by cheap knockoffs/imitations from (primarily) Asia...
Luckily, living in Austria as an ex-mil keeping up knowledge&skills in civilian life (as a hobby, and - just in case...),
getting high quality bespoke battle belts (by local companies matching that quality), plus an OG Cobra Pro buckle, has it merits. Though: as with all things quality - not a cheap affair by any means...
great vids !

That was outstanding and got me thinking on the utility of a battle belt beyond the range for CERTAIN civilians (retired military or LE who still maintain and or have solid tactical training as well as others with the right mind set, etc) in these times (open border with criminals and obvious terrorists entering, policies that embolden and increase lawlessness, etc.). I'll be adding a battle belt to my "go" bag, Thank you!
