- The Best Ways to REMOVE Waxoyl Car UnderBody Wax. Easy to Follow Step by Step Video Showing ALL Products and Tools Used.
Waxoyl (commonly misspelled as WaxOil) is a brand name for a car under body coating widely used in the UK. It protects the underneath of the car really well from rust formation but eventually it fails.
In order to effectively rust treat and repaint any areas that need it, ALL of the Waxoyl needs to be removed and herein lies the problem: Waxoyl underbody coating is difficult to remove. Makes sense as it is designed to stay on!

In this video, I will show you a 3 step process that I have found is THE BEST way to remove Waxoyl from a car underbody / car chassis:
1) Mechanical removal of the bulk of the Waxoyl
2) Solvent Removal of the majority of the remaining underbody wax residues
3) Final residue cleaning ready for car chassis rust treatment and car underbody painting
The methods above will work well for Body on frame cars that have a tubular or box section chassis, as well as for Unibody cars.
Hope this helps some of you out there. 💡Any QUESTIONS, Please JUST ASK!

What an excellent video, clear, concise and detailed. Thank you.
@TheBurningpants Thanks so much for your kind comment, much appreciated! 🙌 👍
Excellent video as well as video editing! I'm right in the middle of removing the waxoil from my 1960 Jaguar Mk-2 Saloon! Not the task for those lacking patience or determination! Cheers from British Columbia 🍁 😊
Thanks for your message! Great to hear from someone in BC Canada, lovely part of the world that you live in 😊👍 Yes, no matter how you try to do it, Waxoyl is difficult to get off and you’ve nailed it, the key elements are patience and determination! I need my TVR frame spotless because I was planning on doing some painting. Thanks, Phil
Excellent video, thanks for this.
No probs at all, thanks for your comment! 👍😊
Excellent, thank you
Cheers! 👍😎
Great helpful video 👍👍
Cheers! 👍😎
The ABSOLUTE best way to remover waxoyl is to leave it fora month or so, so it dries out, then peel it off in sheets. Waxoyl is beyond crap IMHO and I've used just about every underbody wax there is.
Hi @Choober65 Yeah, these days there are better products out there. I have heard about this peeling and I know it is a big problem because moisture gets behind and is effectively "locked in". But honestly, my Waxoyl was on there to stay! Maybe in a few years it would have come off more easily. I think the rule of thumb is: If you want it to stay on, it'll fall off and if you want it off, then it stays on there like shit to a blanket! 😂
I think I'll stick with FF
I'm intrigued now, what's FF?
I have to say that I am SERIOUSLY confused here amigo, you say that you are removing waxoyl ? Right ? I recently had my car rust treated underneath by a professional garage that , while said garage boasts no claims to be like " rust proof experts !" whatever, they are competent and experienced as part of their service menu. They spray Motip ( NOT Rattle can stuff) the said garage guy , told me that it wont like fully dry, i totally get that because after the 1st pro application, I can do annual inspection on ramps and touch up. BUT, total confusion, here and alarm , if its WAXOYL, why the hell are you like having to scrape solid rigid pieces of crap from your car ? NOT being like insulting dude !
Ha ha! No offence taken! Waxoyl is an old product we have been using for years in the UK. There are better products available now but many of us with older cars do have Waxoyl under our cars. When the Waxoyl gets old, it cracks and lets moisture in. Actually worse than having nothing because it traps the moisture in there. It is a right royal pain in the arse to remove, hence my video. Thanks for your comment, made me smile! Cheers, Phil
No rust on your patch though under waxoyl
