The people may not necessarily migrate from Benin but what happened was that when Benin kingdom was at her peak, the kingdom influenced all the inhabitants of southern Nigeria. There is no group in southern Nigeria that was not influenced by the ancient Benin kingdom

What you understood is Central Igbo my G, If Owerri or Nsuka or even ngwa dialect jam you, your legs will wobble. Ika is a dialect of Igbo Ekperima. Americans and Canadians you mentioned, know that their main origin of migration to that North Americans is England and French, before others joined them now. Ethnicity/Tribe is the most fundamental of every human identity before State or Nationality nomenclature. The Anioma culture is 90% Igbo and 10% borrowed from others due to proximity. Whoever argues that, needs a DNA test, maybe na Aboki breed in mama during the war.

I am 47 years old, and an igbo man. My father waa from Enugu state and my mother is Ika. My father was a hobbyist historian who spent his years researching into the history of the Igbos as well as the peoples of the sub-Sahel, between north-West Cameroon, and Togo. I worked with him and his team of rsearcher friends while he was alive, and after his death, we've continued on his research legacy. He had planned to document it all in a book but he died before he could do it. The findings are quite astonishing though, and I'll leave some of it here.
    1. Everybody is Igbo!
There was an ethnic tribe that was indigenous to the sub-Sahel territory that spans modern nordern day North-west Cameroon all the way to present day Togo. This includes also all of Nigeria from the north down to the south. They spoke a language that is most closely related to modern-day Igbo.
They existed in autonomous non-federating city states and village states, and were republican in nature, which means they were governed by elected elders. They were an agrarian and hunting oeople, and domesticated root crops including Yams, Cassava, Cocoa yam, and the oil palm.
They used red coral beads as adornment, and cowries as an early form of value exchange.
They wore rafia, but also developed the spindle for weaving a soecial fabrics used for soecial ocasion.
Their cosmology centered around a 4-day week, 13 month calendar. They were also a havy masquerade culture and were also into ancestor worship. Their language also included the unique conjoined consonants "gb" and "kp" amongst others.
They were also highly developed in the arts with decorated clay ports, clay and figurines. They also mastered metal works with bronze smelting and were the earliest culture in the world to smelt iron over 4000 years ago.
Thet were the famous mysterious NOK culture, and they're existed in this land for at least 10,000 years.
5000 and 4000 years ago (circa 3000 to 2000 BC) following the sudden drying up of the lush Saharaa, a huge expanse of land that was home to so many black ethnicities, migrants started yo arrive into this terittory from the north and north east, settling amongst these indigenous peoples, assimilating with them, when the migrants came in small quantities, coopring them when the immigrats arrived in large quantities, and displacing them when the inigtants arrived in whole tribes. This wave of migrations continued for 3 to 4000 years until just about 1000 years ago. This migration created new ethnicities where these people used to live, but it didn't replace the people themselves, it just changed their language and cultures, but a lot of the original culture remained.
The Hausa's arrived around 1500 years ago, and displaced the etnic people southwards. Also, around 2000 years ago, a Jewish man named Eri migrating from Egypt, arrived amongst the native peoples in Igala land (they werent Igala people at the time), then migrated further southweds settling amongst the indigenous peoples in present day Arochukwu.
Eri and his offspring colonizied the native people (he didnt arrive in a large company(, and over hundreds of years began to organize the native people into teritories known as Iduu.
They establishe three territories; Iduu-Ugbo (present day Arochukwo, which contolled all of the present day south east into cameroon), Iduu-Ife (present day benin) which controlled anioma all the way to Togo, and Iduu-Attah, present day Igala land, and controlled Kogi, Benue, Plateu all the way up north (this was bedore the Hausa's arrived a few hundred years later.
But time passed and the influence of Eri's dynasty waned
Then about 1000 years ago, a new big wave of immigrants arrived with the advent of Oduduwa.
Oduduwa arrived from the north east, tgrough present day Kogi state and eventually settled in Ile Ife, where he and his large group of migrants arriving from an area where they were very skilled in warefare and batgle. easily conquered the local population, and coopted them into a new tradition. He then proceeded to do the same to neighboring communities untill his expansion ran into firce guerilla wardare resistance from the other neighboring indigenous people.

You guys are just confused and may be mischievous, Ika is Igbo. The language you are speaking is Igbo. It easy for Ika man and Igbo man to communicate and understand themselves, but cannot communicate with Benin. This same thing is apply to Yoruba language. They have the Ijebus, Ife, Ijesa, Egba, Ondo and Ekiti language all with different dialete. If ondo, Ekiti people are speaking their language, Oyo state will not understand all the language and that didn't make them less yoruba. So you guys should stop all this rubbish you are saying. u are Igbo with different dialets

The de facto power block between the 11th and 14 th century was the Benin kingdom. It established towns like eko within the westward Yarbar kingdom now know as Yoruba land and also established other towns eastwards where its dominance stretched such towns as onitsha, onitsha meaning ono chie an occupied area occupied by the then benin oba via one of his princes . The Benin kingdom also established Agbor in the now ika axis , Aboh in ukwuani land and Anioma. Don't confuse the much compressed Benin of today with the Benin power block of centuries back and lets not be egoistic about these things and look at them purely from an objectively historical perspective.

Not everybody in Ika lga speak Ika dialect. You have bini speakers call ozara people that are a minority in ika. Ika dialects vary even within Ika
lgas too. If you bring an ozara bini speaker, he will claim ozara bini but he is in Ika Igbo kingdom but can claim that Ika is not Igbo like hausa and fulani in kano Emirate. You have ijaws and itsekri in warri, does that mean that the ijaw people there are not ijaws like ijaws in gbaramantu or sagabama?
Bini language/dialects is part of edo language.
Ika dialects is part of Igbo language.
Dialects are not exactly the same in a language.
Esan people understand Bini dialect/language and bini understand esan - you can call both dialects Edo but you can not call Bini or esan dialects Igbo?
You can borrow a few words/family from another language/ group but the majority words/ group are still from a core.

How do you understand things. You have a wrong way of looking at things. Does kingdom or people of a kingdom exist after the name given to it?. The kingdom has existed before they had contact with the Portuguese. The name Benin was from the word ubini which the Portuguese could not pronounce correctly because they are not indigenous people of the land. The people of the land has been in existence before the Portuguese came. The name has change from time to time. From idu land, to Efa and Emehi land, to igodomigodo, to ubini(a name also given by efa and emehi) and finally corrupted by the Portuguese to Benin. So the people of the land has alway exist before the name. Igbo called edo people as idu. yoruba called the edo people as Ado. Itsekiri knew them as Ubini for it was the Itsekiris who told the white men (Portuguese) of the powerful overlord living in Igodomigodo and the name of the tribe of this powerful king was UBINI- a term which White man (the Portuguese) corruptly wrote down as Benin when they began trade relations with Oba Ewuare
