I'm so jealous of her it feels like I've just always known the enture plot of Harry Potter and all the twists because I read it from a really youngest age. My first real memory of Harry Potter is when Order of the Pheonix came out in theatres. I don't remember reacting to plot twists or anything else I just kinda know all of them..

I guess Ginny is a character you really need to pay attention to (and she's been my favorite character since the first book, therefore I did) to understand why Harry falls for her, because from the beginning she's a mystery and we only get little hints of her true personality. Nope, not a surprise to me when Harry fell for her, I expected it since the second book :)

I also feel like half the shit that Dumbledore got away with was because Harry wasn't the brightest lightbulb of the bunch...
I keep thinking "Really, Sorting Hat? Harry is supposed to be smart and a hard worker?" because of how much of a dummy and how lazy Harry could be. The people who say that Harry was brave and not much else really do have a point.
Marie, sorting hat was a real theory many had, especially those who thought Voldemort had corrupted Slytherin house and the sorting system.

At least Ginny in the books has tons of personality. She rivals Fred and George for sassy comebacks! But agreed, the romance between her and Harry was just kind of like...Harry sees her making out with a guy and suddenly realizes she's a hot girl and daaaang he jealous. Ok Harry. Ok. XD
@@leahn9876 I think it's bcz Rowling is bad at showing the development of feelings,how it gradually becomes love from friendship. Romance was never her forte imo.
Her strengths r lorebuilding ,world building, storytelling ,suspense n good plot twists n great character building .
@@Someone-hl5gr All very true! She excels in all of those areas, so I can accept that the romance elements are on the weaker side. It's not like Harry Potter was ever meant to be a romance-driven series anyways lol all the character/plot/world development that matters is incredibly well-written. I especially like the immersive way she writes battles - reading those passages is an adrenaline rush! I will always enjoy reading this series. ♡

Yeah, like the whole vanishing cabinet in the second book I believe? Yeah, second, when Nearly Headless Nick gets Peeves to break it to distract Filch, and then it appears again in the fifth when Fred and George use it on that one kid (Malfoy actually mentions that incident)

I remember waiting to see the Pensieve memories on screen in order to understand how Tom Riddle became Voldemort... only to see teen love triangles because that’s what was big during 2008-2014. While teen romance was a significant plot thread in HBP in didn’t outshine the war aspect, threat of Voldemort, learning the antagonist’s history and the conspiracies.
It pissed me off. This and GoF are my least favourite movies of the series because of reasons like this - I understand changing some things because not everything in a book can be adapted to a movie due to them being different mediums. However it would have been nice if they didn’t focus so much on trying to draw in the Twilight like craze of the time with teen love triangles (that wouldn’t age well anyway due to it being a fad) and instead just told the actual story.
Excellent review! And yes, Dumbledore should’ve given Hermione those private lessons as she had the most common sense 😂

And just for the record, Half-Blood Prince and Deathly Hallows (the 7th one) are both my favorite books. I can't pick one over the other.

I think you lost the asasination atempts by Malfoy because every time he tries, another "more important" thing is happening, so you don't realize until the end. Like in the party, there is the love drama with Ginny and Hermione, later, Ron is poisoned twice, later Angelina is attacked... You are so invested in those events that don't look at the clues (and when Harry thinks about it, you as the reader thinks, here he comes again, acusing an inocent person because he hates him)

so i might have picked this completely from fandom lol im not sure where i got this from but the 4:10 thing about the cloak, harry's is not the only invisibility cloak in the world... it's just the only 'true' or 'permanent ' one. i think expensive charmed cloaks exist but the charms wear off with time which is why Harry's is priceless. malfoy wouldn't have bothered stealing it bc he would have thought its just a regular invisibility cloak and he could get his own with his money if he wanted to

Aw seeing you read these book makes me so emotional. Half Blood prince makes me specially emotional. I'd be cool if after all this you could react to maybe wizard rock and other HP fan content like AVPM? It's all so silly and fun, and for sure part of the HP fan experience.
the explanation for harry and ginny suddenly falling for each other is that ginny spent years having a crush on harry and being really shy around him (to the point where she could hardly talk in front of him). In around book 4 (probably) Hermione told her to lighten up, go out with other guys and relax around Harry so he can see what she's really like and it so happens that when he finally saw Ginny behaving like a normal person and not like a nervous fan girl he really liked her.
As for Voldemort making Nagini a Horcrux by killing a random muggle, I assumed that this was because he was so scared and vulnerable at the time he just made a quick desperate attempt to strengthen his immortality by making another horcrux whilst simultaneously making a good friend/servant he can rely upon.

one of the themes ive noticed throughout the series is the fact that harry is about as observant as a brick wall lol. this book has probably one of my favorite examples which is the whole Lupin and Tonks situation. Like the amount of times the reason Tonks was depressed was basically spelled out for him, and he still was always like “yep, she must be in love with her dead cousin.” 😂

Ahhhh I'm so excited for you reading this series for the first time!!!! Ahhhh. I just reread this past winter and fell in love all over again.
Watching someone react to reading Snape killing Dumbledore was amazing - it's one of the best twists of the series, because like you said Snape has been this untrustworthy figure that you've been learning to hesitantly trust only because of the trust that Harry (and you as the reader) implicitly has in Dumbledore. Like you say, Dumbledore trusts him and that reason alone makes you doubt all the 'signs'. There's so many elements of that that are interesting to me, not only just because it's upsetting but just because it's one of those moments that reveals just how much the reader values Dumbledore's opinions above all else, and this is the first real moment we see that he is as fallible as everyone else. Really interested to see what your thoughts are on Dumbledore after the final book and the series comes to an end. All in all that whole scene and all it's far reaching consequences and reasons for happening is difficult to stomach. I remember watching my Dad read it and he was so upset and felt so betrayed he had to put the book down and take a few days before finishing it.

I'm so happy that you like this book so much. The half blood Prince has always been my favourite, for the same reasons that you listed. I find all the backstory so interesting and also, Harry and Ginny's relationship is so cute (in the book!). Love this series of yours and so excited you finally got around to this one! 😊

I just discovered these videos, and it's my new favorite thing! When you pointed out how you didn't think Umbridge was that horrible and then cut to how pissed off you were, I couldn't stop laughing. My own most notable reaction from this book when I read it for the first time was when we were learning about Voldy. It was one of the memories when Dumbledore was going to the orphanage to meet Riddle for the first time and he was described as wearing some sort of flamboyant, plum colored suit-type get up. I took a screenshot of the passage and texted it out to all my Harry Potter loving friends captioned: "How ya'll could NOT tell Dumbledore was gay is beyond me."
This is why they all low-key hate me now.

Oh she knew about the twist beforehand. Nobody saw it coming when the books came out. It's one of the things which is not obvious at all, and once you are told it's the most obvious thing in the world. She knew.

I've only just found out about you. I must say, I dig that you're reading them now for the first time, and you seem to care about the books. It obviously won't have the same nostalgia element that it did for all of the fans who read it as children, but sometimes I wonder if I like the books just because of nostalgia, or if they're actually any good... And if you read them now and like them, that's a good sign.

The deathly hallows is my favorite book in the whole series, I've literally reread it multiple times (just the last lmao). But I'm partial to things that have more of a home feel to them over chaos at all times, so yeah

I feel like this book is underrated because there isn't as much "action" as in the others but... it's FULL OF INFORMATIONS ! I love the fact that we constantly learn more about Voldemort's past.
