    Brief Biography:
The Greasy Coat Stringband were formed in May, 2012, out of a mutual love and respect for old time music. Initially comprised of four members - Derek Copley on banjo, Ais Keogh on fiddle, Briain O Riain (actual spelling. Sorry for wrong spelling of O Rinn in vid!) on guitar and bouzouki and Mairead Ryan on button accordion - the group was reduced to three when Mairead left for Australia, following a plan which unfortunately predated the amalgamation of The Greasy Coat Stringband (but we know she'll be back.... or else we'll just have to hunt her down in the outback!).
All steeped in Irish traditional music, it would be at one such session that an impromptu version of Angelina Baker by Derek and Ais would tweak the ears and set in motion the foursome coming together for weekly jams, before quickly bursting onto the summer festival scene, playing at the Bluegrass festival in Westport (playing old time, of course), the Americana and Roots Weekend in Greystones, Co Wicklow, The 21st Bluegrass festival in Omagh, Co Tyrone, GrassStock in Belfast, Jack of Diamonds in Dublin, as well as a host of other folk clubs and sessions.
Taking their influence primarily from Dublin's own The Rough Deal Stringband (of which Ais's father Ben was a founding member), the group have strived to embrace the music of the Round Peak regional style in North Carolina, championed by such musicians as Tommy Jarrell.
Now a trio of fiddle, banjo and guitar (and bouzouki), The Greasy Coat Stringband are dedicated to keeping their music old time, building a groove and building upon that high lonesome, Appalachian sound, down home in Dublin, Ireland.... and then the world!
