Hi Paul, et al. I have a friend and we both have BX2360s. The first month he had his he was pushing brush over an a bank. Tractor failed to stop he and tractor went over the steep 75 ft bank. Damage to tractor was nominal. But to him broken bones, cuts, and contusions.
The problem was just as you point out. Tractor failed to stop when he disengaged the forward peddle. Kubota Dealer and Corporate denied any fault or liability of course.
Almost a year later, after several attempts to fix tractor and with help of lawyer, Kubota Settled out of court and my friend had to NOT disclose ANY of the details.
Kubota KNOWS there is a problem.
However, oddly enough my tractor works as it should.
I have been watching for quite some time now and appreciate your advice, hints, and especially your attention to details. Wish I could find someone in my area that took as much pride in their craft.

Very informative. Safety with equipment is not the machines priority, it's the operator. I'm not a equipment owner, but have operated many, and always yelled when things were not right, sometimes it helped sometimes I got a new job..lol..Thanks Paul that was a good post for the equipment owners that have them and have same issues. !!

just changed my block heater to find unpleasant surprises . one , the block heater failed after only 3 years because it was leaking antifreeze through the center of the unit to the electrical connection. i will now remove the 12 inch extension wire in summer . two . American distributors of Kubota parts are not allowed to sell to Canadians . 80$-90$ usd original part . 40$USD knockoff . 225$CDN here. three . the piece is not threaded but press fit to install and remove.Very scary because there is precious little info about how to do this yourself . But it can be done . 3/4 inch pipe with a female to female fitting screws on nicely , then torque it off gently . didn't even bother to take the drain plug off because it is very hard to remove and even harder to put back .
love your videos . very helpful Eric Roussil Chertsey Qc

Take the old block heater to an automotive part center. They might be able to match it up for you at a fraction of the cost. I’ve installed many frost plugs. Yes a little tricky but not bad to do. Just put liquid Teflon on them and hammer them in evenly and your good 👍

Interesting video. You are absolutely right, it should not do that period. My 2010 BX2230 stops on a dime the minute you let off the pedal in either direction. You've no doubt saved someone serious injury by making this public.

Well some say they aren't supposed to stop fast and some say they should. I'm in the "should" camp. A lot of these tractors do stop and a lot don't which means that there are defective ones out there and unfortunatey someone will eventually be injured of killed because of it and I guess Kubota will be forced to pay up big time and fix the issue.

I know this is an older video, but sad to report this is still an issue. I went to see a new bx2380 today, and it would roll back just like that with the back pedal released. And yes, when I questioned the dealer, he was like "well, you do have the brake on the left side".

I'm considering this machine, it makes sense to me that the heavier machines would break better. Let's say your driving along and your foot slips off the gas, your going to get a jolt, the wheels will lock up on this smaller machine. The roll and mild braking make mechanical sense to me, especially in 4WD.

I'll have to see what mine does ... interesting to know the brake is for the emergency brake only. With that said sometimes I'll switch from forward to reverse or vise versa and it stops on a dime ... not sure if that a good thing or not. But I'll the do the stop test as you did and see what happens. On an other safety issue ... the seat. I actually received a letter from Kubota [and inset for the owners manual[ on the bolt that holds the seat in place. It was last winter, and last winter here was a bear ... my seat popped completely of the stand .. my little tent shed from Horror Fright [aka Harbor Fright] was warm and cozy, so the repair [double nutting the existing bolt] worked fine and no issues since. Thanks again Paul and Kathy for the video and information.

I have a JD 4400 with HST and it stops as soon as let off the pedal . I never use the brake to stop the tractor only to set the parking brake . That is a big time problem , but as with most things nowadays , the manufacturer does not want to recall and fix the problem because it will cost too much money . They will wait until somebody gets hurt before they are forced to fix it . Good call Paul , stay safe buddy , bob k

My 2008 (new then) BX24 did the same thing, as does my 2014 BX2370 currently.
My in between tractor, a (new then) 2011 B3030HSDC I had did not do the travel as the BX's did/do.
I remember when I traded to the B3030 - I was actually surprised by the sudden stop when I took my foot off the go pedal.
I've adapted to the previous and current BX and frankly - you're right - they should stop.
I have a very good dealer here on Vancouver Island and they take concerns seriously...and this one I'll follow through on.
I'll send a photo of my set up for towing trailers a little later - like you I've pimped my ride - not to the same degree, but certainly it'll enhance performance and function.
Thanks for the info - always appreciated.

I've always found it strange these BX25D units acted like this and wondered how Kubota got away with it. It's a complete safety issue where people's personal safety is at risk. Everything I've ever used with HST transmissions stopped so I simply tried to answer these question I keep getting from other owners and hopefully keep them from getting injured. Mine has always worked like you see in the video. I'm used to it and ok with it but I wouldn't be comfortable letting someone else use it. Can't imaging how the rental shops let these tractors out of their sight if they are like it. After these videos I see there are some that stop and some that don't. Why is the real question. Was there a mid production change made that fixed the issue? Or is it a thing of just hit and miss at the production level and the dealer PDI level. Either way these things can kill like they are and it's time to find out why they are acting like this especially if it left the factory and dealer like mine did.

The father-in-law has an older BX25 that doesn't stop either and it's pretty clear that it's not designed to. I have driven plenty of hydrostatic vehicles that stopped immediately as you describe but then I've also driven several that do not. Really it comes down to whether or not the control valve allows fluid to bypass when near the neutral position.
The bypass is under tension like a weak pressure relief valve and so the vehicle will ultimately stop and hold position but the bypass makes the vehicle MUCH (I repeat MUCH) more comfortable to drive in repetitive forward/reverse movements than those that auto-stop. The auto-stop feature creates a much more jerky operation and when you're stacking dirt you will appreciate the bypass.
In this case I must agree with Kubota, it's not broken. You can do as you do (use opposite pedal to counter your movements) or use the brake (yes I think it's higher than it needs to be).

When I complained about the issue, they gave me instructions to tighten the spring that returns it. It helped a little but the instructions claim that a 10 foot roll out is acceptable. It is a really hard job to tighten the spring. I find the best way to avoid a problem is to pump the pedal wildly with the tractor off before I start work. It loosens up and works better.

Paul, My 2012 BX 25 stops in both low and high range (US model). In face you have to be careful it will wrench your back when stopping a down hill backup in high range while mowing. Took me a while to adjust to the quick stop when the backhoe and FEL are detached. Also had a 2330 and it stopped although not a briskly. I would never tow with the dipper stick. My backhoe is well used and will float after a period of time so anything attached would freely sing from side to side... dangerous! If I must tow I use a tow bar in the 3 point hitch with a stabilizer attached to stop it rotating. Only time I use the brake is for parking or when someone is assisting me by hooking chains or other material handling. Then always foot on brake hand away from all other controls unless instructed by assistant. If in dough DON'T MOVE ANYTHING! I have an assistant working with me regularly so as you say I wouldn't operate a tractor that didn't stop when its should.

I have a Mahindra Max 25. It does the exact thing with the HST. The dealer told me it's normal for the pedal to return "slowly" to avoid putting you over the steering wheel if you don't have your seat-belt on. Personally I call BS. Mine is bad enough that you can hop off and go have a coffee before it stops ...especially in winter. And I have run into stuff as a result of the non-problem. Thanks for another great video

+R.M. Hobbycrafts if that is the case then it sounds like the grease or oil being cold is causing the shuttle to not move freely and it just needs bigger centering springs on it. could also be a pressure bypass i suppose (with the cold hst fluid being thicker)

Thanks for all the grrrrrreat videos Paul and Kathy: I have a 3520 John Deere with "Motion Match" and by juggling some buttons on the dash, you can adjust your braking distance. Great for short distance loader work ! Even if you don't have that system on yours, there is possibly(?) some way you can adjust it? As you know, (at least on JD), the braking system is all inside the "trans-diff" itself. Not in the wheel hubs. Surely yours will have some sort of adjustment, (I would think), as once I found out how to adjust it, . . I felt it was a necessary type adjustment depending on the type of work you're doing, . "at the time". (This is "tug" from tbn), we've talked before. You and Kathy are not only helpful and informative, but Grrrreat and funny entertainment, . . . thanks guys and keep 'em comin'. Big hugs (for Kathy)and a slap on the back to you, . from Erin, just north of Guelph in southern Ontario. Wish I'd known you were goin' right by, . . coulda run out and waved atcha ! Take care.

Our Kubota 5740 has a dial on the dash that does much the same as yours. I can adjust how fast it starts to move or stop with it. These little sub compacts don't have those advanced features. I'll dig into this issue when time allows. It's not a real big issue for ME but for someone who's not used to the way these little tractors work it could be considered dangerous. Once I do my adjustments I'll know how to proceed farther with the complaint. Glad you've enjoyed the videos. We've enjoyed doing them but they sure eat up time for me personally.

My bx24 stops immediately when I take my foot off the pedal, sometimes it jars my back. Ever since kubota has put on the pedal dampers i have seen this issue. They got alot of complaints that the bx22-bx24 would stop to harshly. So they put these dampers to slowdown the pedal movement. I believe this is why they do this. When you take your foot off it takes a little bit for the pedal to return to center because the damper is there. I believe that if you take the damper off it will stop immediately just like the previous models.

Paul, as you know, I'm looking at getting one of the BX25D's this spring, or an B2601, (not sure yet) But, Debbie and I went to a dealer ship here about 2 to 3 weeks ago, and I asked them if I could play with them both the BX25D and the B2601 to see how they handle and how are the hydraulics do. They said sure, just don't dig with them, I said oh I'm not, just want to move the attachments around drive around some. So I did, and I found that the B2601 worked like it should, (just drove one of the B2601's because only one they had there) but I tried 2 of the BX25D's, and both of them done pretty close to the same thing that yours had done, about the not stopping thing. I just tried 2 is all. Tried a BX25 with out the backhoe, it stopped like it should. It wasn't setup for the backhoe attachment. So, I thought that we would share this with you. Thanks for the video's our friends, really appreciate your updates and things on tools and equipment, such a big help... Thanks Paul & Kathy....

Oh the tractor has been like that since I've owned it. I have no issues with it and many more are the same. I just wanted to get the word out about it. I'd hate to see a person injured on one because no one told them. I think it's defect in way of design. Hard to believe a company would design a machine that won't stop right away. I'm sure they are watching this. When I go to do the adjustments if it don't work Transport Canada will be my next stop ;)

After watching this I had to go out and try it on my tractor. I wonder what the difference is between the BX25 and the BX25D. I have the plain BX25, not D. As soon as I let off the pedal (in either range) the tractor stops in just a few feet. In fact, in reverse if I let off the go pedal it stops so abruptly it almost lifts the front wheels off the ground.
Edit: there is a comment below that this "abrupt" stop was designed out of the BX25D... as you and I have talked... people just have no imagination. They just can't imagine what might go wrong. WHY would anyone complain about their tractor stopping well??

My BX25D does not have this problem. For you Kubota haters, my 12 year old JD riding mower never gave me a problem, so the first tractor I looked at was the John Deere, very nice indeed. On the advice of a friend I decided to look at the Kubota and I was very impressed, Kubota seems a bit more heavy duty then the JD and was a bit more user friendly. Still a JD fan, but in this case I had to go with Kubota and if you put the two side by side you would make the same choice.

I've been looking at the sub-compact tractors from Kubota, Kioti, John Deere, Mahindra and Yanmar. None of them are junk, they are just different in some aspects. You do get what you pay for to a certain extent. The John Deere was $6000 more than the Kubota BX23S! Tiny lift capacity increase and brand heritage aside, it's not worth that much more. Fact is, most people around here get these for small landscaping jobs and maybe snow clearing and price matters. Kubota is the predominant brand around here and dispite that annoying heal/toe peddle, it's likely the best bang for the buck. I haven't seen the Yanmar sub-compact yet, the dealer doesn't have any.

It stops quick in reverse but continues in forward for a long way.Takes a bit of getting used, but definitely not how it should work, I did see a slight improvement when I greased the pedal fitting under the floor mat, but still not right. If yes, didn't this problem arise then? 2) Do you know the current status of this problem--has Kubota fixed it yet since your video is from August 2015?? I just called the dealership, and she said Kubota has them do extensive testing on each machine before it leaves their store--I'm assuming it's no different in Canada, right--or are they pulling my leg??? LASTLY, WOULD YOU STILL RECOMMEND BUYING THIS KUBOTA VERSUS ANY OTHER TRACTOR OPTION IF YOU HAD TO AGAIN?

Because, once the pressure is on the other side of the control, it should have a max psi before it releases back into return flow to the tank via some filteration device (filter the hydraulics)... My observation was the back and forward pedal was slow to neutralize, so I greased the pivot under the mat but it was still slow to return to center. Hey Paul... checking in. Went out specifically to check mine after seeing your video. Heard complaints on TBN but without video hard to relatively compare mine with others. I drove it on asphalt flat ground like you, both in turtle and rabbit in 2WD. Going forward I stopped faster than you but not a whole lot. As expected I rolled a little further in rabbit than turtle. In reverse, my results were sporadic. Sometimes I rolled some and sometimes I had a jerk stop. Didn't matter whether in turtle or rabbit... didn't notice a difference. Wondering if I have a 'sticky' pedal mechanism?
Anyways looking forward to your follow up. I will be talking to my dealer. I think the responsiveness maybe is deteriorating. I seem to remember when it was new the pedal was more responsive especially in reverse.
