    I remember when she started tweeting clarifications about the books and thinking to myself “Then why didn’t you write it in? Or create short stories about it?” What I didn’t realize at the time is that she seems very put off by criticism so she feels like she HAS to respond at every speculation

      The nagini thing is the most egregious example of that imo. Because there’s just no way they wrote/filmed the Neville beheading nagini moment with that in mind. That clearly had to have been written after the fact.

    Honestly, it's fallen and it's entirely on Rowling. Her writing style is good for books, a medium where you go through a journey over the course of days or weeks. A movie is more like a meal, you sit down, you consume, you move on. That's not her forte but she's insists on doing it anyway. That's why there's so much....well, everything in Fantastic Beasts. Which aren't even about Fantastic Beasts!! They have as much as much influence on the plot as beasts like Buckbeak did in the books.

    REALLY enjoyed your True Blood analysis!
    Here are a couple more suggested series:
    - Dexter
    - House of Cards
    - Game of Thrones
    - American Horror Story
    All of these started out strong…and then ☹️

      American Horror Story Isn't That Bad NYC was Pretty Good & American Horror Stories 🤷‍♂️
      Also Prequel to Game Of Thrones House Of Dragons Season 1 is Amazing ❤

    While I can separate JKR’s trashfire twitter takes from her art, Harry Potter for me ended with Deathly Hallows. Fans can go free with fanfics, but the official canon ended a long time ago.

    The signs were there.
    Like the sorting into houses, it's like "oh, hey, so we aknowledge that like 25% of wizards who are just ..... fascistic evil shits?".
    It's a problem a lot of YA fiction has, because the trope of just simply sorting all of humanity into 4 easy categories.
    That act alone is the kind of divide-and-conquer fascists push, because it makes it easier to single out one group over the others, or create a 5th group of "outsiders" beyond the category system to attack.
    For example, do you think Voldemort would have stopped at wageing war on the muggles and their supporters? Because once you start thinking in categories like that, there's always gonna be one that's like "I should run all of this and it's my way or the highway" so the other groups become expendable ....... hmmmmmmmmm

    Harry Potter meant a lot to me growing up. I lived and breathed it from childhood to my teens. It was my first experience with fandom and fandom culture. I had largely moved on to other things by the time Rowling started showing her true colors but I still had clothes with my house on it, still had the books, etc. I wasn't surprised when she revealed what a hateful person she truly is because there had been signs, but I was disappointed. I'm a queer non-binary person and I cannot in good conscience support her work nor do I want to. All enjoyment I had instantly evaporated when she went full TERF. I would be sadder if she hadn't basically poisoned it for me but I sort of despise the series now for what it represents in my eyes. If you still enjoy it I'm glad that you can continue to find joy in it and by all means keep creating and engaging with something you like, but I've washed my hands of it and I can't really be sad because it just feels so rotten now.

  • @TheDahaka1
    @TheDahaka1 Před 2 lety +3

    I don't want to make the stupid point that the actors of evil characters are bad people... but the two examples of Rowling supporters from the cast are the actors for Lucius Malfoy and Voldemort. That's actually an amazing coincidence. And deeply saddening.

    • @joueusedelacave7798
      @joueusedelacave7798 Před 2 lety +1

    Great video! I wouldn't be so sure about Harry Potter not being a fallen franchise, though. I have two daughters in prime Wizarding World age (10 and 11) and they absolutely don't care about Harry Potter. I even read them the first book (before the whole TERF thing happened) thinking they'd get sucked into its magical world...no dice. None of their friends care about Harry Potter, either. JK will probably still die a wealthy woman, but the series is definitely running on nostalgia fumes at this point. Unless there's a major reboot (which will happen over JK's dead body...like literally not until she's dead), I'm betting it's dead in 10 - 20 years.

      As someone who works in a library, I gotta disagree. Sure it is not as big as it used to be, not even close, but it is still one of the most read series. I think HP is here to stay, being one of those classics that never really go away. That being said, I also agree it will never return to the golden days, as mentioned, for that, something new and Fresh would be necessary.

    Being transphobic is wrong. Wanting total control over something you created is not. Your parallel with a child leaving home doesn't apply. A child is human. The person develops a mind of his/her own and parents has to adapt. An intellectual property like the Wizarding World is not a person. So, for me, Rowling can do whatever the hell she wants with what SHE created. Whether fans like it or not. Heck, if Da Vinci came out of his grave and said he wanted to retouch the Mona Lisa, he is in his full rights and shouldn't be stopped. He painted the damn thing. He can burn it if he wants to.

    'Do what is right, or what is easy' well it would be easy to submit to the alphabet mafia, so by that logic standing against them would be right. Don't think you thought that through.
    Also I love your assertions that she must simply be ignorant of the counterarguments, because obviously no one could disagree with your beliefs. But it's understandable, that's how religious people often rationalize dissidents. 'They must not have truly read the holy scriptures, because if they had they'd obviously agree with me'

  • @TheMonkePrince
    @TheMonkePrince Před 2 lety +4

    Not gonna say that Rowling is bad or good, but I am going to say that, maybe, just maybe. It never was her comments and actions, but the fact that Harry Potter wasn't actually that good to begin with. I refused to read the books and watch the movies up until halloween last year. The only movie worth watching is the third one, and maybe goblet of fire, but the rest are slogs to get through. The only thing that stops me from blaming Rowling is that people that say she's "Transphobic" and then on the other side she's a "Demonistic". You attack her like the religious right did and have just as much of a leg to stand on as they do. Harry Potter was trash and you drank the kool-aide
