So I'm delivering a Pro Nuc loaded with bees for a sale 60 miles away. I had the lid on the vent and during the drive every few minutes a bee would sneak out and fly around the car. Since they like to stick to the windows I opened them a bit every so often which kept the numbers down. Next time I used the No Vent. LOL

Hi Natalee, Have you tried the new JZBZ Cages? Emerge in incubator, easy mark and inspection. Candy plug and can bank in incubator for weeks with crystalized honey with a couple drops of water a day. Great for selling them also.

i have had them get out thru the vent in the top before. i've also noticed this year that the lids arent quite snaping on tight and ive had to use tape to keep them on when transporting, just in case they do pop open. also, the entrances are usually kind of stiff at first, and can be tough to close the first time. i usually slide them up and down a couple times to break them in so its easier to close. nothing like sticking your fingers into the entrance and having bees sting your fingers while trying to close it >

Natalee fits the information from a typical 25 minute video into a 12:30 one, good stuff!

What was the date this video was taken? It’s good to share so others can use as a reference to compare/learn from. Thx!! Hope you end up meeting your split numbers. This was a building year for me as well. I split a little too hard too early this year trying to hit my numbers. We didn’t have good mating weather early spring(lots of wind) and I made too small of splits

Natalie-What is the R-insulation value on those plastic hives as opposed to 3/4th inch wood?

its not great. they WILL overheat in direct sunlight in the summer time. ask me how i know. i did some splits my first year with them, and came back to find all the brood dead on the floor. they basically got cooked. i just use them for temporary transport boxes. you can use them for longer periods, but i would suggest putting a piece of plywood over the top to keep the direct sun from baking them, otherwise they need to be in shady areas.

@@user-zt1pq7hq6y they're fine as a temp transportation box, but I wouldn't use them long term. Also great for catching swarms
